What's the largest repair/maintenance/replacement expense you've ever paid and what was it for?
Single part was 950 bucks for a new motor. Single repair job was 1500ish when i replaced the motor because if your pulling all that out might as well do clutch and a bunch of shit while ita out.
Not me personally, but my parents were charged 4.5 grand to fix their air-conditioning in an old saab 93.
About 2k was repeated trips back, getting it regassed at first, then a component replaced, a leak patched, regassed again and the car given a 'check-up', then the rest of money was spent on an entirely new compressor because the fucking retards didn't check it in the first place.
With it malfunctioning I had only 1st and reverse, no ABS/ASR, dead odometer, tempeature screen and clock, irregular idle, doors wouldn't lock with buttons or the FOB, windows were stuck, dead AC...
Parents had to pay £3k for a new engine in the family Scenic. Idiots didn't maintain it properly, and I warned them about the engine grenading at least 4 months before it happened.
>tfw don't own my own car yet
This year will be the year.
I'm afraid so... I mean, its just a DD, and it was in damned good shape which was what prompted me to buy the car. I would've preferred manual, but I couldn't let the deal pass me by
This year I'm about to tackle my build sheet. I've spent about 700 keeping it on the road so far.
New quarter panels (if I can't find anyone who makes them) will be 1800-2000 bucks total directly from Honda USA. I plan on replacing the quarters, find a factory Acura Integra badgeless hood, replacing the passenger door and possibly the driver's fender. Total including the 1800 will be around 2700-3000. Not too bad
I'm going to order a B20B from HMotors in the spring, then build that to my liking. Looks like that'll be another 1200-2200 depending how in depth I want to go into building it (beside necessary things.)
Regarding the suspension, I bought Tokico blues for 400 and have not found springs yet. All the bushings are 150, then the sway bars I want to buy are 200 each. I have replaced all the ball joints and even put adjustable upper control arms on the rear. The whole suspension is probably going to be around 500-700, so again not too bad. Wheels and tires will be decided later.
After all that, I'd like to reupholster my sunbleached and shrunk seats. If that happens, that'll be around 600 for two, maybe 800 for all four iirc.
I don't know (haven't asked) if any body shop can replicate this particular piece. For lack of a better word, the portion of unibody it mates to is gone in pic related. Where that chip strip is, is where sheet metal and unibody should be lol
I'll give a follow up example too.
The door has a hole in it that I don't want to fuck with lol.
600 dollars for a rebuilt alternator
The worst part was is was for a civic, was driving across the US and the alternator shit itself on a sunday, no parts stores open in whatever town I broke down in, and would have had to pay for a hotel until monday anyway, so my only option was a nearby dealer and they fucked me dearly.
$150 for a fuel pump.
>tfw previous owner overhauled cooling system, replaced VANOS seals and fixed instrument cluster pixels so there's basically nothing to go wrong here
isn't that under warranty dude why would you pay almost 50k US for batteries lol please tell me this is a troll
Replaced mercedes with my escalade
