What's /o/'s take on new 2012+ Bmw's
>>
Newer excuse me
>>
>>14211341
I think I'd rather have an older one with an N54 currently...
>>
>>14211341
too heavy

Anything over 3000lbs can lose weight or die
>>
overly heavy
too large
far too much focus on luxury over driving dynamics, the only exceptions being rwd sport package models with a stick shift, or the M cars....but even the M cars are getting soft
>>
hope you got extended warranty
>>
>>14211566
They're too new to tell if they're problem cars
>>
>>14211397
That seems a little unreasonable because that pretty much leaves you with 80's and 90's F&F cars, miata's, or the FRS/BRZ
>>
>>14211590
Lotus makes the best handling Analog (non super computer assisted) cars in the world. The best ones are around 2000lbs. It's been shown with the ND we can still hit 2200-2300lbs with EXCELLENT safety ratings.

There is no reason performance cars in 2016 can't weigh between 2300-2850 lbs. Heavier cars feel like shit through the wheel, handle like shit (unless digitally assisted). Heavy cars are inferior as a true *pure driving feel/handling* sports car.
>>
>>14211642
If we were to talk about cars the average person could obtain and get the best performance they could then all you'd be left is the ND
>>
>>14211714
>If we were to talk about cars the average person could obtain and get the best performance they could then all you'd be left is the ND

dark times we live in, but the ND will hopefully save the US.

Why don't you count all the cars over 2500lbs that crashed vs the lighter ones

Decent luxury cars, way too heavy for a proper driver's car.

>>
>>14211789
so are bmw and renault drivers really that bad or are those just the most common cars to go around the ring?
>>14212029
only bmw I'd care to own besides the e34 m5 and an 1M

And I guess a v10 m5/6 if I had the money to turn it into a 1000hp 'sleeper' and of course maintain it
>>
>>14212029
Nice rice
>>
>>14212157
The grey Renaults are cars you can rent to lap the ring. The old BMWs are just the German equivalent of ricers.
>>
>>14212186
I suppose they are RS meganes?

How much does it cost to rent one + top insurance?

This could be pretty cool and worth a trip to germany but muh 120 shitbox is not up to it desu

>>
>>14211789
Why are European drivers so bad?
>>
>>14211341
3 and 5 series with XDrive are good "luxury" cars from my own experience. As others have said they are not driver's cars except for M3/M4 and M5. The new 1 series M should be good though.
>>
>>14212246
Because they aren't true enthusiasts. You can't be a car enthusiast in Europe, just like you can't be a gun enthusiast in Europe.
>>
>>14212282
Sir I will let you know I live in the most anti gun country in the world and still manage to be a gun enthusiast

You are right about cars though, even my fairly wealthy neet arse cant afford the taxes on a decent car
>>
>>14212157
The V10 M5 is very good, although it is costly to maintain. You can get one here in Finland for 30k,

>>14211557
fucking true , i'm a big fan of BMWs but everything after the E90 seems to just be market/niche pleasing rather than actually making sporty cars that you can DD in comfort . even the E90 has a lot of problems ,like the rather questionable styling or the fact that they somehow aged worse than the E46s . But they had nice engines . Too bad every one of them seems to be an autotragic .
>>
>>14212306
Yeah they went down in price for a reason. But the drivetrain is glorious and they can be had in a manual and also handle better than the f10.
>>
>>14212157
BMW are everywhere in Germany , and the whole Ultimeme driving car advertising is everywhere . So every sap that bought a bmw just turns of TC and expects to just fly through the ring no problem . The cars are good , but they are not magic . Bad drivers can crash any car .

I like mine. But I'm more of a techy than a car guy
>>
I really like the looks of the 2012 335i/328i coupes and the 4 series quite a bit.
>>
>>14212217
That is so retarded . There is literally just one reason the 1 series sells , and it's because its a RWD hatchback . It's is ugly beyond belief , poorly equipped , impractical compared to even a fucking polo and expensive when you compare it to the bulk of it's competition . The only redeeming features was that it was light(ish) , RWD , handled well and you could get some nice engines in it . BMW just makes me mad . A FWD 1 series doesn't stand a chance against a Focus or a Golf , which have proper , refined FWD systems . Nobody bought the ugly as sin and boring 2 series active turd , and they sure as shit will not buy an impractical , ugly and expensive golf . God I'm fucking mad and BMW is one of my favorite brands . Or at least it used to be ...
>>
>>14211341
Well I work for them. So I have no complaints or else I will receive many lashes.
>>
>>14212429
You forgot perhaps its biggest selling point: it's the smallest, cheapest car with a BMW badge on it.
>>
>>14212230
They only have Turbo I6s now ... no V8 3 series , no NA I6 , no V10s , only turbos ... there are no good sounding BMWs left . And electric steering is just sad .
>>
>>14211341
3, 5, 6, and 7 are mob machines

The X5 has gone soft
The X6 doesn't have that polarizing road presence anymore. Now it's honestly just ugly - instead of ugly and I want it - like it used to be

All the other cars are for poor people
>>
>>14212428
>328i
>2L turbo instead of 3L NA
Its a better engine , but it's still kinda sad
>>
>>14212444
True .. sad but true . Still , there will be a drop in sales unless they make it even cheaper .
>>
>>14212459
3, 4*, 5, 6, and 7 are mob machines

and by mob I mean you buy a black one, tint the windows and live in Russia.
>>
>>14212467
What about the 428i? Isn't it a 4cyl with a turbo?
>>
>>14212429
nah people buy the 1 series because cheap bmw

enthusiasts pick up the higher trims for the rwd and handling part but for the most part its just chick cute cheap bmw. and really, no audi, merc, bmw can be ugly to normies, especially not while they are still newish, its a veil germany has managed to build quite well
>>
>>14212186
No, old BMWs are not considered ricers. Those would be VWs, especially Golfs.
>>
>>14211582
It's a European luxury car
What do you think will happen
>>
>>14212476
I have faith that BMW's marketing and design department knows what their doing, it may not be as fun but it will sell as a new car in many units
>>
>>14211557
This basically. I will say that the newer BMW's are amazing cars, especially if you have the dough to get higher trim and options, but they're not "real" BMW cars.

BMW has always balanced cost, performance, and luxury well IMO, but lately they've gotten too bloated and expensive, especially when the ones that are really unique to drive are only the M's at this point. Back in the day a 528i stood out even though it was a cheaper alternative to the 530 and 540, now it's only the little things here and there that stand out on the cheaper models.

Still a good brand, but it's definitely not miles ahead of the competition like it used to be. Now it's just another wealthy person car. I think they could fix that if they cut down on the luxury and committed to just making a good driving car that was still comfy but not a money pit.
>>
>>14212246
I hope this is a meme, American drivers are hands down the worst I've seen on the road, and I've been to Belarus.
>>
>>14212282
You realize that aside from the nicer countries on Europe, you can own a farm full of artillery pieces and you'll be fine. Eastern Europe is ironically free as shit, the government is small and doesn't enforce things too much outside of towns and keeping Muslims the fuck out.
>>
>>14213200
So there's the choice of living in a nice place with no fucking freedom, or living in a complete shithole with decent freedom.
No thanks.

This man gets it. Needed to have an entry to compete with the Audi A3 and Merc 250.
>>
>>14213578
It will if you keep replacing parts
>>
>>14211341
Nobody on /o/ can afford these so you'll never heard the end of sour grapes-fueled arguments about how they're pigfat and no longer true BMWs.

It seems a fair assessment that the newer cars are more boaty and less engaging, especially in the models and trims offered to normal consumers, but nobody here knows whether the newer M3/M4 is an engaging car to drive.

Pigfat. I wouldn't mind an E92 M3 just because fast but the E60 is unforgiveable. The E60 M5 is also considered one of the most unreliable cars of this century.
>>
>>14216322
I do.
The electronic power steering is gross and it lacks the "road feel" but it still handles well and goes fast.
>>
Driving down a 6 lane road in the left lane at the speed limit, a pickup pulls out crosses 3 lanes of traffic into my lane and I end up side swiping. Then the pickup driver ran. I didn't have a license or insurance on the car at the time and the damage was cosmetic so I let it go.
>>
Old ones had some fucking retarded problems that were never fixed
New ones are riddled with fucking retarded electronic shit and gimmicks
BMW in general is fucking retarded
>>
>>14217248
>I'm poor and have never owned a BMW
Thanks for your input
>>
>>14217252
I'm poor and have owned 4 BMW's thus far.
They all were old/oldish as I can't afford the upkeep and maintenance of a brand new one I'll give you that.
They're just terrible cars in general and will leave a sour aftertaste, you can't be happy owning one.
>>
>>14217257
Also, I'm mostly poor due to the said BMW's
>>
>>14211341
If it doesn't have a dipstick, i'm not interested. That means E46, E39, and select E60s are ok. The rest are shit.
>>
>>14217257
>>14217333
i'm poor and have owned 4 bmw's. 2 of them were rusted heaps of shit but mechanically they have been all great. everything that failed I could diy fix at my garage. very cheap to upkeep (in europe at least) cheaper than audis.
loved all of my bimmers, no sour taste ever.
>>
>>14217166
E60 is very similar in weight and size to e39. And the suspension is almost exactly the same. It's even a bit lighter because of all the aluminum. It's not a 7 series. The new F10 5 series actually dropped front macphearson struts in favour of 7 series double whisbones (to reduce road noise) and is bigger, heavier. e60 is still a true 5 series, it's just many will argue doesn't look like a classic BMW.
>>
>>14217391
Guess what - they've reintroduced them in the new generation of engines - due to customer complaints. I have an N52 engine (no dipstick), but I find I don't actually need it (and I do my own oil changes), but also wouldn't mind if I had one. I think the issue here is overblown. The car has an electronic oil level sensor which works fine.
>>
>>14212318
The E92 has aged much better than the E46
>>
>>14217653
the e46 is an 18 year old car and the e92 is (barely) 10 yo...
