Researched this car for about a month, just test drove 2 versions of it, DSG and 6S.
I'm in love.
>Why does /o/ hate it
If it comes with a warranty it's fine. Those cars are just known to be pretty unreliable.
Also a lot of hate comes from the long gearing.
Besides that it's a good car for fun daily driving.
>because hating on german cars is cool
Eh, not really. if there's hate for german anything its their amazing ability to jew you out of money sometimes for cars that aren't much better than their competition.
>pic related is a nearly $100,000 FWD AMG
We don't even get this one in North America.
Yet somehow they thought it was a good idea to give us the midget-proportioned "4-door coupe" and "land of the female customers" "SUV" variants of it.
>buying a hot hatch if you don't want to go fast
I have a 07 R32. My gf has a 14 Focus ST.
The focus is way more fun and a but quicker irl. The VW is far more luxurious, and has a much nicer ride and general daily experience.
/O hates this car because its full of 17 year old poorfags who can't even afford a fucked corolla, no less a pseudo-luxury hot hatch.
Eh it got an intake, full exhaust, injectors, lo pressure fuel pump, ecu... Put a more aggressive clutch in because I'm stupid and now its grabby at low speeds. It's making north of 300 at the wheels. But that's still not gonna chop a 10 year old 3 series. Or a wrx. Or a ST. It will be a lot less of an econobox, and still more affordable than anything else making similar power with a decent interior.
Nobody is racing a fucking golf though. It's for having a quick and practical car, for when you have friends and hobbies that require more than 2 doors.
Yup exactly. I wanted something fun, but i also needed a car for a professional job, daily commute, gas mileage, reliability, storage space, and affordable insurance,
So i went with a 9th gen Civic Si. Honesty never have i regretted it, i'm sure it's the same with the GTI.
No. Only the a3 and tt have haldex, real quattro is full time or rwd biased
Under slippage it works fantastic. Basically it's awd when it needs it, so for a daily it is good
It's fwd, looks like a shopping car and is made by a brand a lot of us don't like.
German cars are pretty easy to hate anyway, for me at least. Nationalism about cars is common everywhere, but it's only those smug Kraut bastards who charge extra for cars, regardless of merit or purpose, purely because they designed them.
Because just like this country itself VW has become a giant pile of shit.
The Golf looks worse than the Punto Abarth,
it's less reliable than the Mazda 3Speed,
it's more expensive than the pro ceed GT, while VW doesn't offer 7 years of guarantee,
it's not as fun to drive as the new Type-R, because VWs in general are as boring and ugly as our women.
how about the mk4? i've wanted one since 6 years ago when my brother was obsessed with them, he ended up with an audi a4, but i still really love the look of the mk4 and i feel like it suits a 20 year old single guy that goes out.
however, i live in aus and i hear a lot about the service and parts are quite pricey, so idk if its worth or not, even though the cars are around $3-7k
>muh vee-six moostang
>muh quartermile times
Nigger the boot in the GLA is fucking pathetic and this is a common theme in all crossovers. There's slightly less headroom because of the curvature of the roof, again anothat common theme. Climbing into one is a pain the the ass if you have a bum hip or back or whatever. Because they're slightly bigger (and heavier) and create more turbulence in the undercarriage because of the added height, they use more fuel than their equivalent saloon or hatchback.
How the fuck are crossovers more practical?
>Nigger the boot in the GLA is fucking pathetic and this is a common theme in all crossovers.
It's obvious you haven't rode in a good CUV before.
Don't want to make a new thread for this but...
What is /o/s opinion on the Golf Mk3?
Found a 2.0L 98 GL for pretty cheap, my dad who is a mechanic says its good.
It's pretty much exactly like pic
If you hate crossovers but love wagons you're fucking retarded.
If you hate crossovers and hate wagons, you're a reasonable human being.
Fuck crossovers, fuck wagons, and give me coupes and trucks anyday
You might just be retarded.
>Mfw I read that shit
It's not a shitty car, it's just expensive and relatively bad as a hot hatch. If you look at it, as a comfortable car with decent interior, then i guess it's okay. But as a hot hatch, it's supposed to be fun, but it isn't compared to the competitors.
>If you look at it, as a comfortable car with decent interior
Then its look is edgy as fuck, FnF- or chinese toy-like. It just pretends what it is not (as much). Definitely not shitty, just too much all-arounder.
But it's decent sheikh's car. You can tank as much oil as gas per day driven.
the R is rather underwhelming according to most, there's an "r button" which is supposed to make it super hardcore but vw was very conservative in their adaption settings, so it just feels slightly more gti than a gti
> post 2K VW
Although I'm just after a ride in a '98 one. Got "low oil pressure" warning twice (false), hazard lights went out and indicators relay started buzzing loud.
It's a lifestyle.
Its true that hot fords have more aggressive suspension, but its not like that cant be modified easily.
Gti is a fine car. Vw electronics are known to be fucky, constant cels are typical. But on my mkv its always something minor and easily adjusted.
Id say do it.
OP, I test drove this as well it was a blast to drive, perfect amount of power for the street.
All the faggots in this thread have never even driven one, 220whp and 265 wtq is fun as fuck in a 3000 pound car
I was very much leaning towards the DSG, but it just felt like any other auto I've driven. Once I got in the 6 speed, it was an instant easy choice to try to find one with a 6 speed.
>fun as fuck
First of all, 220whp in a 3000lb car is not fast enough to be fun in a straight line.
Second of all, they are soft and understeery and feel heavy. The GTI has lost its former fun magic, despite being faster than it ever has been.
With 300 whp you will definitely beat an ST lol (assuming focus). It's already better at acceleration stock. As far as handling? You aren't good enough for either. A 10 year old 3 series would be a fun comparison though
I like the GTI but... Type-R is so much better (and cheaper)
Pic related is the only hatch worth attention
