I think you are mistaken about free maintenance on your bike. BMW Motorrad doesn't offer any. Your dealership may have a special deal with you.
Also, buy one these DVDs for your particular bike. They will tell you all service to be performed at what intervals. They are worth it. They cover literally everything.

originally it was AC, no diagrams yet.
for wiring i cut the regulator out and put a generic 12v rectifier on it, my wiring uses a keyed ignition that grounds the ignition and breaks the battery connection from the rest of the bike.
i did use the frame as a ground as opposed to doing a floating ground.

Just posted last night about getting a supermoto of sorts last night, and an anon suggested a KTM 690 SMC. I will be picking up something either tomorrow, or sometime this weekend, and came across a couple choices.
Came across pic related, went and looked at it today, seems very clean. But I wanted to make sure, if anyone else had any experience with them.. Going to be used for single track on weekends, as well as occasionally driving it to work (30 mile commute to, 30 mile from) probably 1 or 2 times a week. How will this do for me?

My I was originally looking at a WR450, but don't seem to see any except brand new at dealerships.

Also is it possible to get knobbies for a SMC 690?

get a power/ignition keyswitch one set of contacts closes and one opens when you turn the key so the stop button just gets wired to the closed contacts when off.
all you have left to do to be legal is signals which just needs to piggyback on the taillight circuit, use LEDS and you dont need to worry about amp draw issues, but you need an LED relay so they'll flash

you already have a battery, rectifier and lights so you likely have a +120w stator which will handle at least a full power head and tail light in halogen while still charging.

I think what you pictured is a 690SM, not a 690SMC. I'm not sure of the exact differences between the two, but I think the SMC is based on the 690 Enduro, while the SM looks more like the Duke.

The headlight is the main concern to me since I can barely see it during the day (>muh visibility) and can't see shit with it at night. Plus it would be nice if I could keep the lights on without the engine running. For DC lighting I suppose I would run wires from battery+ > keyswitch > lights > ground?
Anyway I might have to change/rewind the stator because I read somewhere that the original stator on these KTMs is meant to divert its power to the AC lights, so it will struggle to charge the battery and the DC lights. I'll see about that.

I have the DR still. I just need to put it into storage, since my buddy and his wife need the space it was occupying to put a new fridge for their upcoming kitchen remodel. The re-cert was pretty basic. I didn't lose my aircraft qual, just the cert that allows you to hack the mish. Finally got my pay straightened out. Scratch my statement of I've never done a bike clutch before, I've replaced the CRF clutch twice, once with cork, last Kevlar due to the cork clutch not lasting. Organic brake pads I've used for the bikes too have also been subpar. I meant I've never replaced a clutch on a 1.1l DOHC before lol, same shit though.

The price gap for GS1100s in organic and Kevlar is around 50-80 bucks depending on what I buy. I'm deciding whether to use cork since it's only street application.
