To start the thread, I have some bad news for the /turnleft/ guys.

Earlier this evening on Race2Play, we did a 300 Mile race at Charlotte (Mountain Peak Speedway). The field was full of setup builders and all-around decent drivers, most notably myself, Nico Barclay, Joe Nathan, and a couple ARCA Sim Racing guys.

The general consensus from pretty much everyone, is that the car is junk. This is the worst piece of official content ISI has ever put out. It is a waste for them to continuously pump out oval tracks.

1. The tires are too heat-sensitive. If, by some act of god, you run more than 20 green flag laps with /ovg/, the car becomes a death trap and someone will spin. Most likely multiple people at once.
2. Real world setup tricks don't work. Nobody will figure out how to set up these cars and get them driving comfortably for the new guys, which will make things super frustrating when trying to ease people into this
3. The WRONG tire gains heat too quickly.
4. Every green flag run, the right front melted off. In real life, as well as numerous other sims, it's all about managing the right rear.

Trust me, don't even try it.

I know it's easy to say >hurr james hates fun, but seriously, y'all delayed the launch of the GT3 season because the physics weren't up to par. The same should be done here.

I finally golded all the licenses in GT1 and have a save, over 15 years on. However, now I'm stuck. Even some of the B license events like the FF cup pit me against over-tuned BB5 Preludes with over 260 HP and FTOs. I only have 38,500 from racing the Sunday Cup with the Concept Car. What do I do?

If you think there are problems with the car, just fucking say it. You don't need to phrase it like you're some kind of legal authority that gets to dictate to other people what they should and should not do based on your own opinions.

Regarding an idea or the next GT6 series

MUSCLE CARS NIGGUH

One make series are boring, but open car choice leads to balancing issues. Here's an idea: Let's limit the choice to similar cars to achieve variety and balance

A couple of weeks ago I was in a muscle car lobby with a very tight set of rules that lead to all sorts of cars having hectic battles.

Allowed are american cars built between 1960 and 1979.
535PP, minimum weight: 1285kg, max power 530hp, SS tires. (no sports cars, ie Cobras or GT40s)

About a week later I went on a mussuru car buying spree and then hosted a lobby, but not too many people joined so I spent most of the time testing all those muscle cars I just had bought. I think I got pretty much all the cars on the pics covered

>>14189878

I threw more or less the same settings on all cars, and after 4-5 laps I usually did high 32s or low 33s in all of them. Which includes the El Camino.
Some don't reach the target weight, others are down on power because they reach the pp limit first. The firechicken for example is down on power and overweight, but makes up for that with grip.

The balancing works really well, at least at laguna seca, and the cars aren't hard to drive once you remember to slow down in time.

easiest to drive:
>70 Chevelle, Firebird

fastest
>turd gen camaro, but times were very close

most hectic
>GNX, Charger Super Bee

understeer city
>70 'cuda

This should be fun, and there's tons of pretty based cars to choose from.

>muh freedom
>muh trans am series
>muh V8
>muh lack of pink miatas

You can apply this (with altered regs of course) to other series as well, as long as the cars are somewhat similar.
>Skyline & GTR Battle (R32-R35)

>GT300
tons of grip, almost too easy to drive

>Impreza vs Lancer Evo
>Corvette vs Viper
>...
we could have a manufacturers championship with those

Whatever you're up to, using PP, weight and power restritcions seems to work pretty well to keep the laptimes reasonably close.

Also I'm done spamming now.

>Spec Miata sheet back up
Thank you beneficent Shadow Government overlords.

>>14189878
Thanks for your detailed proposal. I've added the Classic Muscle proposal to the sheet for you, feel free to add any details. Let me know if you'd like to run a test event at some point.

My personal proposal is any pre-1979 road car, 450 PP, CS (lots of muscle available under those rules). With those being the only performance limits, there is obviously the potential for a very unbalanced field of cars. No matter though: in place of a BoP, I would have a 'claim' rule Ă  la that Finnish autocross thingy on Top Gear.
https://youtu.be/7q0s4aEWeaY?t=4m15s
In my proposed series, whichever finisher of the most recent race is lowest in the series points standings would have first claim over any car that took part in that event. Hopefully, that would result in OP cars accumulating with UP drivers and vice-versa, resulting in close racing.

Three drivers, myself included, broke the track record in Qualifying. Pole was a 27.4xx.

I was running wedge at -1.75 turns.

I did not have to change left side tires the entire race. We went caution free. On what planet can a Stock Car run 300 miles on the same tires?

Now as for how the car drove in the latter stages? Loose. It was like iRacing's old tire model. Which is fun, until you're actually trying to race and wondering why the right front is melting off when you're LOOSE and this shouldn't be a problem.

It explains why nobody has cared about these cars and popularity dropped off in the first week. They just aren't very good.

>>

They're all like that, though the real question is. Does Niels do it because he's lazy, or does he do it because gmotor2 can't properly simulate suspension movement under load. If it's the latter, that's something big. Basically AC tier bullshit.

His meme-tier suspensions are because of the limitation of the gMotor2 engine which can't simulate certain types of suspensions properly.
>>
>>14190550
No, otherwise the V8 Stock Car would be fine because it's double wishbone in the front. Though it's true gmotor2 only supports DWB suspensions.

We had touring car thursdays. It didn't pull big crowds, but it was fun nonetheless. It could also be that the day didn't help things.

That said, I'm always down for super 2000 racecars.
>>
>>14190550
But every single Reiza car has meme tier suspensions. From open wheelers to the prototypes. Or can gmotor just not simulate any suspension at all? :^)
>>
>>14190615
See >>14190559
I'm sure he has a reason for his meme suspensions. If I remember correctly he partially explained his reasons for it in a post on nogripracing once but it'll take a while before I find said post again.
>>
>>14190613
It did pull big crowds, hell we even had to do two races, one for EU and one for US. It's just that the Lada was obviously OP and the cars tended to be quite understeery unless you initiated a slide.

These cars are race07 stock content ported over, and they feel amazing to drive. I'm not going to say realistic since I have no idea how bmwe90 touring cars are supposed to handle, but it sure is a lot more fun to drive than the VTCC mod.

Super 2000 is the general name of the class anyway. It's split between the rally cars and the touring cars. iirc ovg ran some of the 1st generation touring cars.

Doing races with ovg in small and tight tracks would be awesome. Touring cars can be awesome in a track like lime rock compared to COTA, for example.

To anybody l ooking to get a wheel:

Spend the extra money for the TX over the G27 or the G920.

While the Logitech wheels are made out of aluminum and the TX is plastic (unless you get the leather edition) the TX has an overall better build quality and it's FFB is a shitload better. It isn't noisy as hell and I've yet to break it despite manhandling it like a mongoloid. Just had to trash my old G27 because I yanked it too hard in the opposite direction of the motors and I guess something got stripped because despite whirring like crazy it no longer applied force to the wheel.

It's 50 bucks more for a 200x better wheel.

All those years when people made mod tracks for rfactor before laser scanning was really a thing, were they supposed to call them "Inspired by Silverstone" or "Belgian Forest"? No, because people know that there is no way they can be 100% accurate when hacked together by someone in a basement from video and photo footage, and you attempting to drive it as if you were driving the track itself, flat out from the get go, is entirely a problem with you and the lack of patience that meant you didn't do at least one slow lap to check for big inaccuracies.
>>
>>14192115
>just because it's a mod it doesn't even need to have the correct corners in it
nah it's you who is retarded
>>
>>14191829
>>14191934

>stock spec room with 5% detune limit
>racing with people who are clean for the most part on a custom track
>win a 430pp CS race against numerous S2Ks in a 426pp ITR
>>
>>14192143
>Circuit has something like 170 corners
>A version made by someone who doesn't have laser scan data, and may not even have decent photos or footage of every inch of the track has inaccurate corners
Nah, you're the retard. Mod makers building tracks from scratch can't even get a circuit with 10 or 15 corners that are all highly photographed correct (see, rf2 Bathurst), what made you think someone making a version of the Nurburgring from scratch was going to get it perfect? If you want to drive a perfectly accurate circuit, go to it in real life or go hotlap a laser-scanned version of it, and spare us your salty babbling.
>>
>>14192196
he doesn't even get the corner radii right, it's fucking pathetic. he just needs to watch one fucking onboard video to get the track right. project cars' version of the ring is almost as good as the laserscanned AC version of it and they don't have a laserscan. i'm obviously just talking about the track mesh here, i know graphically no modder could ever make it look as good as a professionaly made one
>>
>>14192242
>he just needs to watch one fucking onboard video to get the track right.
If it was that simple, why aren't all mod tracks virtually perfect/why aren't more people making mod tracks.
>>
>>14192196
yet faglords like you will argue that a track in Project CARS has a 1degree diffrence in a corner, thus the whole track being shit
>>
>>14192251
Because it's tedious and usually only autists like SJ take the time to do it?
>>
>>14192196

RF2 Bathurst is a PCars track. Modders have done a much better job before (team OSRM)
>>
>>14192257
Nah mate, I'm not that dumb. As long as it's actually nice to drive on (good track mesh), and you can tell it's the circuit without having to squint too hard, it's alright. Remember that 99% of sim racers have probably never even spectated at, let alone driven on, the tracks they're complaining about. As if it really makes that much difference anyway, just some people are autistic enough to hurr it's not perfect durr it's no fun now waah

>>14192289
I know, but that doesn't refute the point that even a regular length track that theoretically should have more than enough data to model accurately can still be fucked up for one reason or another

>>14192270
>Getting this track perfectly right would take hours and hours of autistic tedium that I would never ever do myself meaning I'm stuck with other peoples work
>I'm still going to complain about it as if it's easy and the modder has no excuse for errors
I think it's time you left the keyboard for this evening.

>>
>not realizing that just one and a half years ago this was pretty much the best version of nurburgring you can get your hands on

Drove the new tracks

Not-Kentucky feels good, but theres definitely some weird business going on with the stripes... Its like they're slightly positioned wrong everywhere...

Not-California feels good too but ISI set the Stock Car to Speedway III (which is a high downforce package) instead of II, so I think its a good idea to look into changing that

Not-Richmond is probably the least good of the bunch, mainly because of the weird road texture used. Will spook some people out. No need to make the road texture darker around the corners when RF2 has realroad.

>finally fully have control of RWD cars in Dirt Rally on my g27

Wow, i never thought i would enjoy the game like this. I use to be such a timefag on all my stages and i would repeatedly fuck up etc get mad and not even enjoy playing. Now it's genuinely enjoyably to play the game. I just launch a nice long stage and go sideways and throttle control my way through every hairpin, flicking my way through corners and it's just great and my times are good too. Getting like sub >100 on the global leaderboards on all my stages when i play in my e30.

AWD is alright and all you get go fast but it's just not the same. Feeling the back slide out on you in RWD as you flick it, and being so precise with your throttle control in hairpins and combining it with flicking the wheel and a slight pull of the handbrake. When in AWD cars you just yank on the handbrake as hard as you can and full throttle your way through the control with maybe a little throttle control at the exit.

The ISI Stock Cars have been updated to version 1.04. The new update adds a new skin (the #32 Joey Gase RF2 car) and fixes a couple of things, like tires.

Stock Car:
Added #32 Joey Gase A.I. car and skin.
Tires tweaked, which now require more camber.
Fix for tuning upgrades.
Fixed typo in setup notes.
Reduced AI sampling rate slightly (afforded by newer AI bumpstop overrides)
Slightly tweaked default setup for most configs.
Added several tracks to trackconfigs.ini
Added several AI setups to help their competitiveness on newer circuits.
Other AI adjustments for newer tracks.

Saturday, January 16
11:30AM PST/2:30PM EST/1930 GMT

100 Laps, 200 Miles

2 Hour time limit

Apple Valley Speedway

We will tune the safety car so it hopefully won't deploy for anything less than a two car collision with at least one car completely losing control. That said, you all need to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE RACING IN GROUPS! The number one cause of yellow flags in the last test race was people over-driving the car in proximity to other cars. So i have a little question for all you pcars players: how do you decide the tire pressure?

I don't mean the little tweaks, I mean the range at which you set your starting cold pressure.
How do I know what pressure is best for formulas, GTs or touring cars?

Since most of the default setups are kinda shit, I was wondering if the suggested starting pressures were off too.
So how do I know if a GT3 works best with, say, a 1.4 or a 1.8 bar cold? the only difference I can notice is the speed at which the tire heats up, but I can't feel any difference in grip (maybe I'm just not good enough), any help?

that's a modelling technique because if you place them too close to the road surface, the track markings, the shadows, and the track surface will fight for the Z-axis and flicker.

You see it on a lot of rF tracks, and even in Forza. It's not an indicator of bad track modelling.

yeah but youre supposed to put them milimiters above the racing surface, where its no longer obvious that it is a separate object that sits above the asphalt. its done in every single ISI track, but they fucked up in this particular one. Why not make the races in Fixed Setup? Most of Oval Leagues in many games (rFactor, iRacing, NR2003, Others) are Fixed Setups leagues

I get good bro, but this will get better for others get good
>>
>>14197225

setups are part of getting good. you can just ask someone else for help or their setup. rfactor makes this really easy, its quite nice
>>
>>14197203
fixed setup is literally for shitters
also some people prefer a tight car, but I like a loose one, so even if we ran "fixed" setups, I'd still fuck with it.

>Expecting something with fuck all frontal downforce and tiny, skinny ass front tyres to not understeer.

The key to it is a little throttle in the corners. It drives nothing like a normal GT car, the rear grip vastly overcomes the front, you need to compensate.

If it's your first wheel, go for it. Five queens heads is fuck all. It will help you learn the basics of car, throttle and brake control on more progressive scales than say a keyboard or controller.

It's not the end all though. I started on a Saitek R660 and then went to G25 and now G27

Check it out, the reason behind not doing a fixed setup is that people have such wildly different drive drive styles. The stock setups aren't track-specific, so if we do fixed setup, I'm the one building that fixed setup, so it's a complete shot in the dark whether or not my setup works for other people, and if you find the fixed set is and undriveable pile of shit, you're fucked.

I'm gonna rewrite my oval setup guide before the season starts, it'll be on the wiki.

More like 2/3 :^). The ratio is even better if you discount all of the duplicates, which are almost exclusively standard/simplified/PS2 cars.

Only 474 premiums as far as I can ascertain. 800 more 'meh' cars over 26 more 'wow' cars is a fair trade in my eyes though.

>>14199149
Don't semi-premiums lack interiors though? That's kinda bullshit in my opinion. I'd prefer a ton of poorly modeled cars with some attempt at an interior to be honest
>>
I'll be turning left for a bit if anyone wants to join.

By the way, maybe consider updating the server because theres a new Apple Valley update. It doesnt fix anything relevant for our race, but the old version will no longer be available in the ISI website. So its probably a good idea to update to avoid any confusion.

To be honest I've never driven the Speedway III package in traffic. I still think Speedway II will be better regardless, but maybe Speedway III isn't bad

Snooping around the Stockcar files I found an entry for a "Speedway IV" package, it is supposed to be the High Drag package that was used at Indianapolis that sucks ass. It has no data in it, and its completely commented out. Dunno if this is an aborted idea or if they're really working on it.

Also entries for Peach Orchard Motor Speedway and Mosfet Raceway. Bets are on these being Pocono and Darlington.

Personally, I love GT6. For me, it's the choice game for last-gen consoles if you are looking for core driving and racing (Forza beats it in other areas). Since its release, Polyphony Digital has supported the game with new cars, tracks, mods, specials events, regular events, etc...All for free. They recently added a track editor.

Online is like any other online racing game: shit drivers are going to ram into you and then quit before the end the race. You can find good lobbies sometimes.
>>
>>14199886
Play with us on GT6 or find a clean racing community if you don't want shitters ramming you online otherwise shit's good. Lacking cars in a few areas unfortunately and half of them don't have cockpits but best racing game for last gen.
