Nice truck anon.
Get good snow tires, start braking sooner and take turns slower, these trucks really kick the back end out easily. I put five railroad ties in the bed of mine, really smooths out the ride and helps with traction.

Halfway decent tires
if it was a short wheelbase truck it'd be a good idea to keep some weight in the bed (sandbags or something similar)

Just drive how you would normally except leave extra space and slow down if you arent comfortable with the conditions

4x4-Hi will help get you moving around town, it will not help you stop though. Stopping is completely dependent on your tires

So its all about tires. I was thinking of sand bags in the rear. So 4x4-Hi is best. Just hope my transfer case holds up for the winter.

You shouldn't have to cruise around in 4x4-Hi all the time. That's basically only for when there's 4"+ of unpacked snow on the road.

If you do ever slide off the road into a large snowdrift try to back straight out and do what you can to minimize wheelspin or else you'll just dig yourself in worse. If it gets too bad you could crack open the sandbags/bags of kitty litter and use it to help get you unstuck
>>
What the fuck you mean Virginia doesn't have plow trucks?

>>
>>14187196
They're in a stupid spot, and they're bright enough floods that you don't need that many facing forward. Maybe repurpose a couple as side facing lights or bed lights.

Unless, of course, you're one of those idiots who thinks they're auxiliary high beams of some sort.
>>
>>14187278
The LED-projectors could be spots/hyperspots, which do give you quite decent range

>>14187278
There spots not floods. And i already have 2 rear facing. I just need to rewire them. Also older pic i have 2 in the front bumper now.
>>
>>14187297
They're pretty much all floods when they're arranged like that. No actual LED 'spot' lights look like that. Rigid doesn't actually do photometric testing, btw.
>>
>>14187328
LED-spots have nothing to do with the housing, it has to do with the design of the "projector" itself

And some light may "bounce" off the roof of his truck, but with spots the beam should still be tight enough so that the majority of the light goes over the roof and landing onto the desired area

And I'm not sure what the testing has to do with them being spots... they do offer lamps with different projector setups in same housings; some for pure flood which are suited for working lights, while also having combinations and spots/hyperspots

>>14187119

There's no projector and the reflectors, if you can even call them that, aren't actually engineered. All these things may as well be built in someone's garage for all the engineering that goes into them.
>And I'm not sure what the testing has to do with them being spots...
...

Come on, don't be an idiot.

>>
>>14187436
Ah, you're talking about those types; LED's with reflector housings

I've dealt a bit with KC's stuff, and I have to say that I am impressed... it truly is just like a normal halogen light, just a little brighter and on metamphetamines, and can definetly recommend them. Even still, the types that I was talking about earlier, both in small "housings", LED-bars and similar provide damned good light aswell, and in the absolute majority of the cases fullfill the same role to the approximate same effect

What I really do like about them is the small size, making them so much easier to install in more covert places

Not even close, those little LED eBay lights have no optical design to speak of. They're flood lights, nothing more and never will be. If you want to form a beam, you need optics.

I must be imagining seeing the light from the LED-bar I installed on my dads Outlander this christmas then... the light reaches easily just as far as the tight-beamed 55w halogens on my own car, but have a much wider spread and brighter light aswell.

Or is this what you've been trying to get across to me the entire time; that you cannot see an actual sharp "beam" from these types of lights, and instead its more an "undefined" flood that lays lighting over a much wider area, although they do reach long distances aswell?

The range would be a bit better with something like the KC's I talked about earlier, but they would not be able to get the close-range lighting aswell as the long-range like a LED-bar does, which is part of why I like LED-bars; they can cover a much larger area through the use of differently designed "projectors/bulbs" or whatever the fuck we'll call them
>>
You definitely don't neeed winter tires on a truck that heavy, just drive according to the conditions ie. not like a dumbass.

When it snows, go into an empty parking lot at night with some shopping carts and practice until you can drift to within an inch or so. This will give you a a feel for what the truck will do when she slides or if you get into a hairy situation.
>>
>>14187651
>"Man (18) found dead on local WalMart parking lot. Surveillance on the parking lot revealed that the man had for most of the night been playing around with the abandoned shopping carts, until he tragically hit a curb and hit his head on the ground, causing a strong brain hemorrhage. There is currenltly no missing-persons report matching the unfortunate victim, but police and checking in with local mental hospitals and homes for the mentally retarded"
>>
>>14186818
4x4 will stop you getting stuck and help prevent fishtailing, it will NOT help you speed up, slow down, stop, or turn. Give yourself plenty of time to do any of those things. Look out for other drivers, all the snowtires and 4wheel in the world won't stop some jackass from sliding through a redlight and tboning you. A set of decent snow tires for that truck is going to run you 600+ dollars so if it only snows once every couple of years you'll want to avoid buying them. Extra Weight in the back also helps. Turn off traction control if you have it. If you start to slide when you are breaking, pump your breaks unless you have ABS. IF YOU START SPINNING TURN INTO THE SPIN to try and gain traction, then correct yourself, DO NOT BREAK OR ACCELERATE WHEN SPINNING, IT WON'T HELP.

>Drive slower than the speed limit if you have to
>Plan to stop 100 ft short of the guy at the lights, just slowly roll the rest of the way and stop with lots of room so if you get rear ended you're not getting fucked on both ends
>Get sandbags in the back, 10-20 and make sure they're over your axles. Placing them over the tail end might cost you steering
>Change lanes SLOW
>Get in the most used lane
>Don't drive beside semi trucks if they freak out and jump lanes you might be right there
>don't be afraid to stop for a yellow light, if you cant make it gun it to clear intersection
>Get good tires
>Make sure lights are working maybe get a set of low foglights they help light the pavement so you can see black ice better
>If you get stuck keep yours wheel straight and don't spin your wheels
>4X4 helps you get moving, it won't help you corner, stop or stay on the road
>Go to an empty lot and practice throwing it into spins and recovering so you know how it handles

that's all I can think of right now. From someone that drives a short box 2wd pickup in northern canada where we rarely see a plow
>>
>>14188239
Neither Osram or Philips are actually making LED light bars.
>>
>>14188239
Why what i have now works fine?
>>
>>14187528

Yo senpai I like your style of light.
What I don't like is big ugly fucking long bars that go the entire width of the truck.
Fuck those.
Or ones that sit right over top of the windshield.

Fuck those guys.
One of them asked me to turn his car off, but he had a manual light button.
He didn't tell me to turn it off, so I didn't.
Laughed my ass off when he went to go turn the truck on again, and his bad battery haddied.
>>
>>14188250
OSRAM and Phillips make the LEDs, not the bars.
The bars with Cree and Epistar LEDs even when advertised as spot/flood pattern are predominantly flood and suffer in long range lighting.
The bars with the Phillips or OSRAM LEDs and projector style lenses have substantially more range and a much more focused beam pattern, while still providing adequate flood lighting if you get a combo bar.

>>14188268
Other options would work far better, not to mention looking better.

They're complete floods, because they're made in a Chinese sweatshop with faked brand name LEDs.

Same location as the lights you've got now. It will look fine.

Worst case people will assume you're a brotrucker with slightly more money even if the overall cost is the same.

Multiple pods on the rack just looks like thrown together shit, and has shit output compared to even a cheap ebay 52" bar with the right LEDs and lenses.
>>
>>14188353
They're all made in Chinese sweatshops, but that doesn't mean they all use the same LEDs and optics.

(Some of) the ones with the projector style lenses actually generate a good spot beam. It's the ones that are just reflectors that are flood lights no matter what they try to be or claim to be.
>>
If you aren't familiar with driving in snow, just drive GENTLY. Gentle braking, gentle accelerating, gentle cornering.
>>
>>14188373

Just giving you recommendations on upgrading your lighting performance. With all those pods it seemed like something you might care about.

I didn't tell you to get a smoke tune, pull your tow mirrors out, or buy American Forces and stretched rubber band Open Country MTs.

No reason to get all defensive. If you want to look like less of a brotrucker then take the wheel covers off.

Don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine.

While the "big" light bars don't look great, they look better than scattered pods, and will outperform them. Not sure which matters more to you.

Also give your truck. I want a crew cab to SAS.

OP, just go out to an empty lot after a good snowfall/cold snap and do what everyone else does: drive like a dipshit, and learn how your vehicle handles various situations. Take all your fucking lights off that aren't stock. You look like a retard, and if you're using them while driving, you're gonna increase your chances of getting hit by the guy you blinded. I've driven for 15 years in northern idaho, and I've never needed more visibility than what my headlights put out. If it's snowing, all the more reason not to have thousands of lumens bouncing back at you.

In other news, don't drive at all if you find yourself being forced to drive like a grandma because you are scared of the weather. Nothing will cause an accident faster than someone in a mild snowstorm driving 40 miles under the speed limit. Honestly, just get the fuck off the road and let those who know what they're doing get by.
