I think they sound like absolute shit when you put an aftermarket exhaust on them and just daily drive it, but with an intake or ITBs, I think they sound good at WOT. Love the sound of a 4AGE with ITBs.

Full race down pipe? What like shorty 4-1 headers with a bpipe to staight exhaust? Your better off with a 4-2-1 race header, it'll sound better overall and actually make power, you'll just need a anti defouler to replace the down steam sensor. Also hks in my car makes power, hks in the s2k however loses power but sounds great. So you definitely need to do research.

Honda's are the only really shitty sounding 4banger, I don't know if it's the high compression or what but they all sound horrific.

Turbo 4's sound pretty good, the turbo takes away some of the bad raspiness. Rally style open exhaust + antilag = sex

Subaru's are one of the best sounding stock 4 cylinders.

My suzuki 1.8 is kinda deep and rumbly, sounds decent for a shitbox.

Inline sport bike engines sound amazing of course.
