Are car fags the new nerds?
Think about it
>Those of us that dont own appliance type cars that get a refesh every year are enthusiasts or at least are interested in their car/cars
>Most people own Appliances thus making actual enthusiasts pretty rare
>The whole culture around tuning shops and go fast bits is extremely nerdy once you start getting into technical stuff especially ecu flashing and shit
>Oldschool gaming nerds almost dont exist and all the normies have taken up gaming because its popular now ~shudders~
>Car Collecting/Modifying is extremely niche
>Carfags are way more friendly than basement/streamer dwellers
Source: My ass and i used to be a PC nerd but the decline of real LAN Culture has made me switch to cars in the late 2000's
Car nerd discussion thread
The American teenage boy has fallen out of love with the automobile. Its a nitch thing now.
Kids just get what mom and dad hand down to them.
Kids dont have posters or calendars of exotic cars anymore. Its sad.
before anyone says inb4 stance fags or bro truck drivers
they get pussy because they're mystic
but not to the point where they shit post here about french shitboxes and anime
You could say it's hip to be square.
Coffee/Food nerds are the latest fad and i hate it but lets not get into that
Car mods have always been a niche thing and are not going to go anywhere also
>almost exclusively dominated by white/rich males
>everyone pretty fun and great culture/humor
True but i really do think nerdy doesnt mean what it used to.
you should see the normies on facebook groups they dare not venture near actual carfags and if they do we say stuff like "port your intake using sand while the engine is running"
no its not cool to be a nerd, just that the things nerds have liked are now popular, nerds are still annoying as fuck and not cool.
video games and comic book stuff are popular, not the guy that has every issue of spider-man since 1964.
>nerds are still annoying as fuck and not cool.
i just got rid of all my nerdy friends because they where so unfriendly ironically and had no interests in common with me anymore even though i still like oldschool gaming, stuff em.
No, literally everyone else under 25 I know who is into cars is a massive dudebro.
Thing is, a lot of us forget that /o/ largely consists of nerdy car guys in particular. If you spend too much time here, of course you're going to think the two characteristics go hand in hand.
No, it's hip to play certain vidya and spend slightly too much time watching movies and surfing the net. The vast majority of "nerdy" pursuits are still just as niche as they always have been.
>Thing is, a lot of us forget that /o/ largely consists of nerdy car guys in particular. If you spend too much time here, of course you're going to think the two characteristics go hand in hand.
Actually for me it does, all my car friends are HUGE nerds, literally pc builders, backyard tinkerers etc.>>14173109
>No, literally everyone else under 25 I know who is into cars is a massive dudebro.
Ironically dudebros are the biggest nerds they are they just dont admit it, 1/2 the blokes i used to gym with where nerds
This is true
From what I've seen, anybody who is too dedicated and immersed into any hobby is a "nerd". Whether PC's, video games, music, cars, etc. Having a mild interest in cars is still a good thing. Something to talk to normies about at a party. Not quite as bro as sports.
Wrenching on cars isn't the same as it was 25+ years ago, it's a shame. Everything car related has become more complicated and expensive. It is because of this that you have to be fairly dedicated to the hobby and culture revolving around cars, and this makes you a "nerd" of sorts.
>dudebros are the biggest nerds they are
Not the ones I have in mind. Trust me on this.
Anyway, I guess all we can really say then, is that cars still have quite a broad appeal. Ain't that nice?
ive only ever owned 15-20yearold+ cars so the complication thing isnt really a issue for me but yeah i see what you mean, would love to get into ECU tuning
Of course appliance cars have 'broad' appeal thats the very point of their existance
I didn't mean appliance cars, I meant to say that, on the limited anecdotal evidence we have, it looks like a surprising variety of different types of people like enthusiast cars.
I'm 25 years old.
When I try to talk with my coworkers, friends, and others my age about cars I may as well be talking to a wall. I threw an aftermarket cam, headers, pushrods, lifters etc. in my car and they all ask me why it sounds like it's running like crap. Then they tell me to take it to a mechanic.
Then I try explaining what a camshaft is and how it works and the different kinds and specs of cams you can get. In return I get the 'deer in headlights' look from them. They ask why I would even want to change engine parts "isn't the engine in there good enough already?"
They wonder why I'm so into cars but they just don't get it.
The fact that I own four shitboxes just perplexes them to no end.
>nice little thread about nerd status
I'm kinda losing interest in video games and anime . Since I have a car now and spending money on parts'n'tools.
Still a weeb though
>JUS FITIN GUIZ XD
It's newfag, cunt. Lurk more
I still have vague memory's of when hooking up a lap top to your car was a strange thing to do
first time I saw it was some dudebros messing around with their r32 in a petrol station car park
meanwhile I'm still using a timing light and carburetor synchronizer
>a guy who can't do simple math
Simple math is over rated because outside of physics and accounting you never really use it.
but mention air fuel ratios, compression ratio, compression per cylinder and exaughst flow and im starting to go full nerd
>still haven't touched a carburetor or know how to tune one
I-Is it tricky?
no idea myself i just go off if it smells or runs rich/lean but really i have no idea im not him
Basically its just a bunch of small screw you have to adjust as its all analogue you basically have to use the force and feel it out, only ever worked on small motors though.
One drives a van that his mom gave him. One drives a corolla and raves about how it's the best car in the world because she has a fetish for toyotas or some shit. One drives a TL Type S 6 speed because his mom gave it to him. The rest don't have cars.
Simple math is still used every day you just don't notice it, so sick of people saying that. Everytime you look at a group of objects or how many cars are on the road you're using it
>they all drive fwd
>no one to rip skids with
They'll never get it
>everyone pretty fun and great culture/humor
Nah there's a lot of shit in the bucket. The amount of legitimate 1950's style misogyny still prevelant with the boomer car guys is pretty visible. The amount of boomerfags I've heard talking up how they are seriously superior to some female race car drivers and how they'd be able to outdrive them unironically made me self aware of how a huge chunk of the hobby is still stuck in the stone age.
Yeah sure, whatever call out a woman when she drives like shit, but you have to be pretty fucking retarded to completely seriously think that you know more about cars/can drive better than a professional race car driver.
