Hey guys im looking into a used g37 at an amazingly low price. The salesman said its priced low because its throwing a "cam actuator" code and has to be driven at low rpm.
What might be the actual problem here? Any ideas? Easy to fix/worth fixing?
Thanks.
>>17371796
buy a nice OBDII scanner, a decent one will run you about $80, it will work on any car newer than like 97 and it will tell you all the trouble codes of the car, i got mine on amazon and its not bad at all, they have one that syncs to an app on your phone too.
anyway, buy one of those, plug it into the scan port and whatever problem this is will pop up on your scanner as a trouble code, then just google the code(s) and see what the problem is.
Think the cam is having trouble actuating bro

If the VVEL system is fucked you're going to probably end up pulling the heads.
Is having an old car really that expensive in Japan?
What does your average shitbox look like in 2017?
>>17371456
Probably not, 2chan exists.
I saw some Japanese highways and it just seems like 80's shitboxes and slow as shit cars, so it's lookin pretty good.
I am real Japanese. I prove it.

I'm only half nipponese and haven't lived there since 2010 but:
1)Yes, owning classic cars are expensive. I never had anything that great but a friend of mine with a 3rd Gen Supra (1JZGTE) was always spending money for taking care of rust and trying to pass inspection, not to mention extra taxes because over 2.0L and the cost of premium gas.
2)The average shitbox when I was there was Kei cars (mostly Daihatsu) and other 5door hatchbacks and gas savers. When I last visited (2016) I noticed a lot more hybrids and some EV's.
>>17371496
I don't know where the pictures you saw came from (or when they came from), but in the area I'm from (Kagoshima prefecture) anything earlier than 1990 was very rare. Lots of people just recycle their cars because incentives and efficiency.

What the fuck.
whats the absolute bare minimum car? i mean a metal box with wheels and engine and absolutely nothing unneccecary to go from A to B ?

i have a couple air cooled beetles. no heater or ac, no power brakes, no power steering. the older one has no collapsible steering column, seat belts, no gas gauge, passenger side door lock or side view mirrors. no turnsignals either, just semaphores.
Depends. Want it brand new in [the current year]? This is probably your best bet.

Why do I have none of these stories?
I have been driving for 10+ years and riding motorcycles for 3+ years.
The closest I got to one of these would be:
>do a burnout in friend's neighborhood on a tuesday, around 10am in his SR20 S14
>expect it to be dead and nobody around
>see guy in Yaris behind us after the smoke clears
>he's hauling ass after us

Nismo? More like Nisno.
Nismo versions of cars are depressingly similar to the existing top trim levels of each respective car, just with slightly more power tuned out of the engine, a nicer exhaust sound and Nismo styling. You don't get any racing pedigree, yet it still comes with a stupid price tag.
A Nismo badge used to mean a professionally-tuned street rocket with all of Nissan's Motorsports division race parts fitted. They were very rare cars, showcasing Nissan's Motorsports technologies.

Yes, you're right RCR, the Ford Ranger was made to be disposable. But there's more to the story...
Ford initially designed the ranger to be cheap to make it financially accessible to the average highschool/college student. Ford believed those students would start their careers and then later purchase an F150. But something went wrong...
The ranger was reliable. Too reliable. Rangers drove much further than Ford ever intended them to. Many of those who bought a ranger never stopped driving their rangers... and never bought and F150.
Ford's money printing F150 sales were damaged by the ranger's reliability, and so, like all good things, by 2011 the ranger had been cancelled.
Yes, the ranger was made to be disposable. Yes, it was made to be cheap. But no, it is not unreliable.
Somehow, Ford's planned obsolescence department fucked up, and I'm sure we will continue to see their fuck up on our roads long into the future.
When the fuck are ford fanboys goingto realize a single cab Tacoma is literally the best small pickup truck on earth.
Colorado>ranger
I really want this truck as a first vehicle. 2011 year is the most recent design that still looks good, but it's too expensive at about 13k. I'm looking into a 1997 model. I don't know what it is about the truck that draws me to it. I guess like RCR said it's humble with no expectations.
What is the highest gear you've reached on your standard manual stick shift transmission? For me, I entered the fourth gear for the first time the other day. I have a friend who claims he shifted into the fifth gear on his Toyota Echo 5 speed.

/o/ I have a proposition.
There are plenty of car events in my area throughout the year, which almost always translates to boomers jerking off each other over their 40+ year old muscle cars. I've been to these events and I can tell you for a fact that if it wasn't made in the USA and doesn't have a V8 they shit on it. They are extremely touchy on the topic of imports. As such, I believe they can be an excellent source of butt hurt.
My idea is this:
>purchase old muscle car that is really popular amongst boomers, preferably a shell with no motor or transmission
>restore the body, remove any dents, rust, etc
>then paint it some obnoxious ricer color
>slap random ricer stickers under the hood, the back windshield, etc
>add an obnoxiously large rice wing
>shiny chrome rice rims
>stance it to being nearly undrivable
>blacked out tail lights
>autistic levels of window tint
>gut the interior for "weight saving"
>install racing seats
>momo steering wheel
>replace shift knob with knob from honda
And that's just the cosmetics.
Now for the mechanical aspect:
>lower it on coilovers
>convert it to FWD (if possible)
>drop a Honda K20 in it with a manual transmission
>turbo it
>add a fart can
And then take it to every event I can get into.
What does /o/ think? How many triggered boomers do you think it would generate?
So basically, you want to be a nigger
>>17367681
I have a proposition.
Build something you want the way you want to and attend whatever meets you want.
Building something just for the normie populace is retarded. Building something just to piss off the ormie populace is even worse.
Building something the way you want to perform the way you want is the true patrician choice.
It'll just look like every other pro street Camaro and Mustang, the only difference is you'll have ricer stickers instead of Jeg's and Castrol and Edelbrock.
>convert it to FWD (if possible)
I don't give a shit about the rest of your imaginary scenario but here's an interesting read about a front wheel drive first generation 442.

Good luck, you're doing pretty much exactly what I want to do.
Could you have something like an accessport/MSD ignition controller that's programmable so you can dial it back to 20% for MOT/inspection and make it 100% after it's inspected?
