Keep it stock.
This is what I apparently need to do once my car is at 30,000km, which is what it is at right now.
Am I able to service my car myself, or should I take it to a mechanic to do it?
I have literally never worked on a car before.
>>17357433
it's only 30K's, just double check everything is fine. I doubt you'd have a major issue so early on.
>>17357448
That's good.
Oh but I forgot to mention, the car is 18 years old.
>>17357433
Those are pretty much all the jobs you get taught the first year of learning mechanics
t. some guy that will finish my first year of learning mechanics tomorrow
If I were to buy a truck, I'd get a big red GMC Sierra. Why get anything else?
>>17357349
they're oversized even for pickup trucks, the 6+ liter engine looks tiny under the hood.
>>17357362
>implying having space under the hood is a bad thing
You've never worked on an F-series, have you?
>>17357349
I have a green Sierra, and a red Silverado...
Looking to replace my current and reliable but boring old Volvo estate with something a bit more fun.
Needs to have enough room in it for at least 2 people, and space to carry long gun cases etc. Roof space for a kayak a bonus.
Looking at a Forester STI because Bongland imports, but open to ideas. Lancer? Normal Impreza?
Four wheel drive preferred, because most of my hobbies take place down muddy back lanes
New qtddot thread
Ill start with something easy
Will shifting low/early in a manual make your mpgs worse? Seems like my car is using a lot of gas, but it also has an occasional CEL for the evap system. That would also fuck my mpgs right?
Shifting low will increase your mpgs, Dummy.

Does anyone here know how to detect liquid gasket sealant being on a vehicle? Even if the coolant has been changed multiple times after using the liquid sealant.
anyone?
Look for crusty shit on coolant components. For example, thermostat has crusty white shit on it. The liquid sealer disperses a bunch of that crap throughout the coolant system, plugging very small leaks.
>>17357138
coolant has been drained after using the sealant tho
i am also able to drain the system myself to check for any evidence. i can take out hoses, the entire radiator, etc. to look for this stuff.
its very important
Girlfriends car wont start after shifting to park and shutting off. Will start if shut off in neutral. Just replaced the neutral safety switch with no success

Burn it and buy literally anything else
Hey /o/, I have a 1999 Nissan frontier that I bought not running, the previous owner overheated it and warped the head, so I had it milled and put it back on
So far:
>drained 2yr old fuel and put 5gal fresh fuel
>new spark plugs
>rebuilt distributor
>new starter motor
>new ground straps
>new vacuum lines
Compression is ~100-120psi
There is good spark and ignition is in-time
There is fuel pressure at the rail
It is at the point where it will start after cranking for a minute or so, idle for about 10 seconds, and die. It is throwing no codes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POpB22jNMgU
Things that I can think of are
-low fuel pressure
-camshaft isn't at proper orientation compared to rest of engine ( a few teeth ahead or behind were it's supposed to be)
-crap got into your fuel rail and plugged the injectors
-coolant leak into cylinder preventing proper combustion.
not familiar with the KA24DE, but check/clean the IACV and make sure there aren't any vacuum leaks around the intake manifold.
Timing is off. Re-verify timing belt, re-set timing, check timing components. Verify firing order is correct.
>park car for 45min after a short drive
>go to start it back up again but car won't start, no power to anything at all
>terminals were a bit corroded so I cleaned them up
>not even the accessory lights that I have wired directly to the battery will work
>it eventually starts after being jumped by another car and me messing around with the terminals some more
>drive it home and go to start it again a few hours later
>starts and runs for less than 5 seconds then dies and it has no power to anything again
>check battery with volt meter and it's reading 12.4V
I'm not good with electrical stuff at all and I need to get it running again ASAP. Would anyone know what the issue could be? I'd imagine that if the battery has 12.4V, at lease the accessory lights I have wired directly to the battery would work, but they don't.
>>17356792
Check all connections again, engine ground strap, battery to alternater...
>>17356792
12.4v is too low. should be 12.6+
you could have a very loose cable somewhere, or a bad link, or a loose fuseable link.
test your voltage when the car is running, should be over 14v
when the car is running jiggle shit

>>17356836
Will do.
>>17356855
Even if 12.4V is too low, wouldn't I at least have some stuff work? Shouldn't the dash lights, radio, etc still come on? I get that loose connections and that type of thing would prevent it from starting, but those accessory lights I have are wired directly to the battery and they aren't working either. That's what's kind of throwing me off. The car is a 99 Cherokee.
I have a 1990 na miata, I really like the thing but, as most miata modders say, it could use a few extra horses.
But I'm not sure I want to turbocharge it. It's a lot of work and a ton of money. And it's not like I'm trying to make a drag car, it will be my daily for a long time.
my idea of a perfect Miata for me involves hardened valve springs, probably the kit from flying miata. Supposedly it'll raise the redline to at least 10,000rpm. Which would add a little more power.
My question is what kind of prep work is necsisary to install such a kit? I've heard from a few friends that you need to reinforce the lower end, connecting rods and crankshaft that kind of stuff. I'd want to get a new tach obviously so I don't get valve float. anything else I'm forgetting?
>>17356791
Nigga what?
Just do the Exhintake swap, good exhaust and add lightness.
Then when you have the money slap a tarbo on it

How can I buy a nice car while being a poorfag? Working slightly above minimum wage at BP gas stations allows me to buy a second hand daily. Not even a fun one because it has to be economical.
Pls help.
>>17356650
learn to fix and maintain it yourself.
I bought a g35 for under 5k because it had an oil leak.
What is /o/'s opinion of the AE92 GTS, I know it's FWD which is sad, but is it basically like Toyota's version of a prelude? It scratches the perfect aesthetic in cars for me, I love that way it looks, I'm a sucker for these late 80's early 90s designs
>>17356562
Looks like a shit offbrand aw11
My first car was an '88 AE92 GTS.
First year of the FWD which saddened me, but if it's your daily driver you don't want to be pushing it like a retard anyways.
I love the way it looks, was comfy to sit in, plenty of storage room if you removed the rear seats. It feels fairly underpowered unless you 20v swap it. Certainly an aesthetically pleasing vehicle.
>>17356629
Gee I wonder why that is...do you think it's because it was MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY?
Idiot.
What the hell is this, I was looking through cars on craigslist when I happened upon this, I did a simple search on it, I didn't know Carroll Shelby did a supped up Chrysler product sedan. Its so different that I kinda want it.
https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/6169967500.html
Lots of Chrysler's had Shelby's name on them. Even a Dodge Dakota Shelby. The Shelby cars are all turbo i4's, very strong motors. The downside is they're all fwd
Wow, I dont see very many of those hanging around anymore.
I'd get it if you can. Upkeep it like mad.
I'm actually considering buying an Isuzu Impulse that someone has for sale near me. Mostly because of how rare it is.
Turbododge!

Just get a Daytona. For $6000 you could get a nice SRT4
