If i buy an n54 engined car and have an extra 10K on the side to spend on repairs am I safe?

nice meme, if you buy one properly maintained with all the typical n54 problems addressed (HPFP, water pump etc) you should be fine with a much smaller rainy day fund than that.

maybe, but I was pleasantly surprised because it's a finnish band and I didn't even remember I had it. I mean I was listening to Scorpions and then Slavia (Norwegian black metal) and then suddenly Sonata Arctica starts playing. It had been a lifetime since I had last listened to them.
(yeah, my playlist is sorted alphabetically like a true autist). Also post your Satsunas.

Ok, called up my grandpa today trying to get some advice on buying a used car.

I told my gpa that my price range was around $2200, and he scoffed at me saying there was no way I could get a reliable car for that much, citing that my uncle bought used cars for that price back in the day and they all failed on him.

Is my gpa right? I see so many people posting about their shitboxes they bought for sub $2000 that have lasted them plenty of time. Isn't it also fair to say cars were made better in the past few decades compared to the 70s/80s?

If you get real lucky and get a $2200 shitbox that was owned and taken care of by some old couple then yeah you can get a good car. If you buy some 4 owner $2200 shitbox you're going to have the hood up every day. They type of car matters too. A $2200 Honda is going to burn more oil than gas.
>>
>>17513794
Well that depends? How high is your gpa?
>>
>>17513794
Anything lexus and prove that old white honky wrong.

I want to replace my econobox with something fun in the next year or so.

I'm capping myself at $20,000 with a few basic requirements:

RWD or AWD
0-60 in less than 5 seconds
2010 or newer
No convertibles

I want to get the most exciting driver's car I can get. Space and fuel economy are irrelevant to me. I'm not buying this car for efficiency or practicality.

With that said, my short list of cars that meet my base criteria and that I have found for sale with decent mileage/no accidents, nationwide for less than $20,000:

Audi S4
Audi S5
Audi S6
Audi TTS
BMW 135i
BMW 228i
BMW 335i
BMW 550i
BMW 750i
Chevrolet Camaro SS
Infiniti M56S
Infiniti Q50S
Jaguar XF 5.0 SC
Jaguar XFR
Mercedes E550
Mitsibuishi Lancer Evolution X
Nissan 370z

Which one of these would be the most engaging driver's car? Obviously some of these cars are only on here because they make so much power that they can sprint to 60 quickly, but they're not exactly sporty vehicles.

Would you recommend something that I've missed?

As much as I hate to say it, from that list, only the 370z stands out as being "sporty"

Why 2010+? You could probably find a Corvette C5 Z06 for under 20k in good condition.
>>
>>17513790
congrats, you fingered on of the slowest cars on the list as the sportiest. Typical /o/

Hey /o/

I was tightening the lugnuts on my Dodge 2500 RAM, and the lugbut and screw came off.

The truck's old and has been siting there for s while, and the last time we drove it the lugnuts and screws damaged the rim since dad and I didn't tighten them enough.

How much will this cost to fix? The trucks 4x4 if that matters.

Am I fucked /o/?

I have the 1.8T in my TT Mk 1.

It's not a "fast" engine by modern standards, but when the turbo gets spooled up it's more than quick enough to handle business and the engine's been around since the dark ages, as long as you keep up factory maint schedules (keep an eye on the timing belts) it's pretty much bulletproof. I like the exhaust note too, a nice low growl.

Assuming you're mated to the 6-speed Tiptronic you'll be in good shape.
>>
>>17513260
nope, 5 speed; my last car was a slushbox and I didn't like it at all

I think it sounds pretty nice too

I'm going to say visibility and comfort. Cars today make me feel anxious and overwhelmed with worse visibility to boot for the most part. But give me an old van with bare basics and I feel right at home. Also, seating was better in older cars, it's rare I find decent cloth seating in cars today.

I miss fuselage body shapes with open front fascia, i.e. 70 Mustang Shelbys, 70 Challengers, and second gen AMC Javelins. I also like that older cars have good ground clearance.
>>
Only visibility

Only after I sat in some 'normal' sedans from the last one or two years did I fully understand why boring crossovers and lifted wagons like the CR-V or Escape sell 300k+ per year now.

I have a hope that good electric cars like the Bolt and others will allow designers to strengthen the front greenhouse and A-pillars without making it hard to look out of without worrying about a 400lb block of metal suspended in the way in the engine bay.
