Hey carfags and bikefags, I would like to take a second to deviate from the normal shitposting and attempt to have a real discussion on the future of motorcycles (and by extension also cars) with regards to speed power.

For your carfags that do not follow the industry, buckle up, because it's kinda interesting. Motorcycle manufacturers have intentionally hamstrung the development of motorcycles with regards to speed and power since the early 2000s. As the lore goes, Suzuki put out the 1999 Hayabusa which had a top speed of 194mph and the manufacturers came together to quietly agree not to engage in a "speed war" and catch the attention of governments (European governments were getting nervous at the time) so they agreed to cap their speeds at 186mph/300kmph which is why every street legal commercially available sport bike you see is limited to those speeds. Furthermore, the engine power itself is limited. I think 185 crank horsepower is the limit they have agreed upon as well.

So get this: for the last decade (more desu), there have been ZERO changes to the power production of sport bikes. These companies have managed to continue their sales by making pointless changes year after year to bikes in an effort to make them seem like they are new and redesigned. Styling changes, the addition of electronics, weight reduction, etc... ANYTHING but actually making more power or the bike's faster.

So my question is: how much longer can they keep this shit up before consumers say enough is enough and stop buying their shit? It's not like the physics of the gyroscopic effect changes from year to year. Sport bikes are literally the same geometry-wise today as 10 years ago. There is no reason to buy these new bikes.

The only way around this I can see (as seen in the Ford GT and some other newer model cars today) is the addition of a "track mode" which is an electronic setting that unlocks more power from the engine. Through servos in the exhaust and probably the intake, a higher air flow is accommodated and changes to the fuel table unlock this additional power. Ducati does something similar with the Desmosedici and the Panigale I think where they can advertise a particular crank horsepower but you have to install the "race exhaust" for the maximum performance which is included with your purchase.
>>
And a lot of this obviously boils down to emissions and other government regulations. These manufacturers have to accommodate the lowest common denominator when putting out a new model so they don't have to reinvest in redesigning it in a few years. Just imagine how much more leeway these companies would have if they didn't have to meet California's requirements and instead just met the requirements of the 49 other states. Just imagine if they didn't have to meet the requirements of Euro4 AND didn't have to anticipate the Euro5 changes either.

How can an engine LOSE torque as its RPM goes UP???
33 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>17526211
if the valves are closing to quickly for the engine to breathe an optimal amount, for example
>>
>>17526211
lots of different reasons, its more common in older carborated engines though
>>
>>17526211
Because the valves open as a fraction of each revolution. As RPM increases, the valves are still open x% of the time, but now that same airflow has to feed more and more combustion cycles. Effectively, it's running out of air.

Also, internal friction increases drastically at higher RPM. It's mainly piston/cilinder contact that causes this, because those need to have a good seal (=more friction) in order to prevent blowby.

Fuck speed faggots, all I want is a high quality comfy and stylish car. Budget is around 5k could go a little over for the right car. Looking at a Lexus LS400 right now but having a hard time finding a low mileage one in my area. Any recommendations? Pls nobody recommend a shitbox audi that will fall apart a week after I buy it.

all of the LS400s I have seen over the last few years are absolutely hammered to hell.

if you want top tier comfy and a decent car, I recommend any full size 2 or 4 door japanese luxury car from the last 14 years. my acura is top tier comfy, but I think it is lame to drive. That being said, my favorite car I have owned and the number one car I can recommend is a used lexus RX. Any generation will do, they are all extremely satisfying.

I own a V3 STI, and wife has an 04 Impreza TS.

They're solid cars... they have reliability issues because of these idiots who redline them on every gear change.

Our 04 lost the tranny (a single bearing died) at 280k KM... a starter a few years ago.. and I replaced the rad before it started spewing, was $15 for one that looked nearly new at the pick and pull.

/o/ hates them because they can't afford a performance model, and they're sad that their base model Impreza is slow as fuck.

Seriously, our EJ25 is soooo slow... that's probably why /o/ is mad.

I'm looking to buy a rugged SUV but everything buil in the last twenty years looks like bland bullshit. All the cool trucks and SUVs I like are from the 90s. I see them listed online as running good or whatever, but is it hard to daily a car that old? Do you have to pay a lot for repairs and stuff? First car buyer asking.

all credibility: lost.
One of the official Lexus youtube channels actually posted a ''real'' video of the RC-F beating an M4 on a track.
Real life tests obviously proved that the M4 wipes the floor with the RCF on both track and straight line.
I bet this is another case of false advertising by Lexus.

This is literally the sharpest curves for miles around.

It's a 65mph main road so they are long and wide for all the idiots in SUV's. Not interesting at all.

All the country roads are either private and fenced off, or impassable in anything but a 4x4 with fat ass mudding tired

Every time I find a decent looking road on google, I drive my ass up there and it's either boring, blocked or as mentioned, impassable.

I used to live in Corpus and I feel ya man. Even the Hill Country isn't all that.

If you want roads you're just going to have to move. I now live in southern Indiana and the state highways around here and in northern Kentucky are pretty good. County roads can be good or rough as hell. Thing is there are no jobs. And snow. Never forget the snow.

I had a 66 Dart with a slant6 and 3spd, and I got 8-17mpg with it.
