Hey /o/ apparently I have an issue with one of my wheel bearings and must be replaced, I was informed months ago by a dealership auto repair shop (big mistake going to those) and said the repair would be 500$ for one. Well i didn't go through with the repair but I am limited to going on city roads instead of highways. I was thinking of replacing it myself because it would definitely save me a few hundred dollars and my brakes indeed do need replacing because i'm hearing that small squeak as I stop my car. Overall i'd like to ask is it very difficult to replace my wheel bearing and would I need to replace the other on the other side? My car is a 2007 chevy HHR LT with 260k miles on it. Runs well it just has those two issues. I know the are repair magnets but I want to be able to do repairs myself in order to save a liot of money. I am just afraid I will mess it up and get my car fucked up more.

If the wheel bearings are pressed in then changing them is a massive pain in the ass, if they're bolt-on assemblies it isn't too bad.

Getting the bearings out of the hub is usually doable with a big ass hammer (but if you live somewhere where cars rust then GG) and some large sockets but putting new ones in either requires a powerful pneumatic impact gun and a massive bolt/nut/washers or a strong press.
>>
>>17562515
Adding more to this, if you've never done car repair work before and have limited access to tools, wheel bearings aren't a very good place to start, especially if it's your only car and you need it to get to work every day. Some towns have DIY shops that will let you rent a bay by the hour and use their tools, and in some cases hire people to help you, that might be a good option for you if it's available.
>>
>>17562483
i'd replace the whole assembly. It adds cost but makes it easier. you can get an oem part for around $140. it just unbolts from the knuckle so you don't need an alignment.

So I found a 300c with the big 5.7L v8 hemi and its like 5k, but its got 174000 miles on it. I know everyone shits on chryslers and thats a fuckload of miles but I love the car and i need to buy a car. and perspective would be greatly appreciated.

I can't find any straight answers, so I turn here.

I have a 2009 Ford Focus SE and the motor is loud and rattles the whole interior. The motor mounts are fine, but I did come across during my research that changing the oil could make the engine quieter, but will cost you in what temps you can use the engine or whatever.

What viscosity and type should I change?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>motor mounts are fine

are you sure about that? your issue sounds exactly what a bad motor mount causes.
>>
Focus engines are quite loud. Turn up the radio volume usually fix it.
>>
Ford Focus owner here, your motor mounts are not fine. The rubber, or if they're OEM, are hydraulic fluid that is inside of the mounts will become brittle/break/leak over time, resulting in more vibration, interior noise, etc. Do you feel the vibration through your gas pedal? It's motor mounts.

Hey /o/ I wanna see if any of y'all can help me. I bought this 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup truck for $700 last month. It had a blown head gasket and many other things needed replacing. Anyways, I got the truck running great and now I'm having trouble registering the vehicle. The truck hasn't had an inspection since August of 2015 and the previous owner (Name is Rudy) that I bought the truck from never transferred the title into his name. The Texas DMV told me that I can not transfer the title into my name until either Rudy transfers the title into his name and then "sells it to me" or I track down the owner before Rudy, a man named Arturo, and have Arturo fill out a form that claims the sale of the truck to Rudy is false and that he actually means to sell the truck to me. Rudy claims he does not have contact with Arturo so I am stuck. I can either take the issue to court, which will take approximately 3 months, or apply for a bonded title. On the Texas DMV website, it says that vehicle appraisals less than $4,000 for vehicles older than 25 years will not be accepted. Since the bond would be set at 1.5 times the value of the vehicle. Since I doubt anyone is going to think a 27 year old Mitsubishi truck is worth at least $2,700 what am I to do? I have thought about signing the paperwork and forging Arturo's signature since he did originally sign the title over to Rudy, but what are the chances of me getting busted for doing that?
>pic related, my truck

so you bought a car that some spic ate the paperwork for.

More importantly, you left this Rudy guy's house without the title in hand.

You can forge it, get caught, buy another shitty one and vin swap (also illegal but less likely to be caught), or just suck it up and admit you're a dumbass.
>>
>>17561645
I have the title, but it is in Arturos name, the back is signed over to Rudy but the DMV says that's not good enough.

Nobody does this. Also the wagies that change oil don't even have air tools, they have wrenches or a ratchet at best.

Even mall crawlers like the evoque can do better than jeeps
