Redpill me on BMW E90 /o/.

I plan on getting my first car around January (yes it's a long time from now, yes I like to be prepared in advance) and can't find anything even close to the post-facelift E90 looks-wise in the same ball park in terms of price (Seat Leon 3 is pretty dope too, but I'd rather get a 3 Series, than a nicer looking Golf).

How terrible of an idea is that? Note, that I don't really care about performance - all I want is enough torque to overtake with ease. Other than that I want decent reliability and great looks.

if you want reliability, stick to the 328, especially like 09 or 10, also see if the water pump has already been done, that would be a nice bonus since that's the car's achilles heel.

get it manual and rwd as well for added reliability.

you could also consider a 128 since those were lighter, smaller, and generally more fun. downside is the looks are....polarizing
>>
>>17550719
by the way i only recommend 09+ because the water pump is less likely to go out on those, and various minor things got redesigned to last longer, but something pre 09 with an already replaced water pump will be ok as well
>>

>>17550726

thanks for the input! I'm actually looking for
an automatic
I can drive the stick no problem, but I'm a lazy fucker and prefer the leisurely nature of
automatics
So on 09+ the water pump issue is no longer a problem?

Also I'm in europe, if it makes any difference

Life is boring.

Take risks.

Miss out on riding a bike so I can live for a going to work 5 days a week and having to talk to stupid people who I don't like for the rest of my life?

No thanks.
>>
>at what point were you forced to get a car?
Actually it's the opposite way, I'm forced to start a bike garage because a car garage would simply be too costly and space demanding for me, including all the tools involved. Cars you need lifts and specialized equipment for, all the parts are hidden away behind layers of bullshit. A bike you push onto a few stacked pallets and just go to work on. Also bikes are a fraction of the purchase and running costs (especially compared to cars that offer the same level of excitement) and take up a fraction of the space.

I want to take my miata and do something fun with it. for a while i have been thinking about doing a r13 swap. i was wondering if any of yall could chime in with suggestions. to give some info this car does not get much use, maybe 3000 miles a year maybe less, it has no A/C, the speedometer and tach do work, its a 1.6 liter standard, and it is never going to be inspected.

Just turbo the 1.6 of you're looking for fun. You're going to have to do some drivetrain upgrades regardless of what you want. Get a torsen 1.8 rear end and a new clutch and you should be able to take 250whp reliably. If you're going to track it or hoon id reinforce your input and output shafts too.

Swaps are overrated if you just want a fun car. Swaps are super expensive too.

I'm a 1.6 slowfag too I'm working on getting the car ready for boost rn

Friend's car starter is gunked up and takes a few times to start, looks like oil had leaked all over it and the oil began to harden and now it just looks like sludge. Can we detach the starter and clean it ourselves hoping it would start up good as new or should I just replace it? The idea here is that maybe if we take it apart and use some steel wool to clean it out maybe it wouldn't take 2-3 tries to start it up?

The idea here is to save money, but if it can't be helped we have no problem just buying a new starter or getting one at a junkyard.

1 can of parts cleaner from any auto parts store. Remover the starter and blast the fuck out of it with that stuff.

Reinstall and enjoy.
>>
>>17550480
> 2 to 3 try's

You mean the car winds over a few times before it catches?

That's like totally normal
>>
>>17550480
>take it apart and use some steel wool to clean it out

Maybe. But you can damage a motor commutator or windings if you are not careful.

In California if your vehicle came with a rear window can you legally remove it? I ask because the mounting points on my brother's car for his jeep were rusted so he just unbolted it and drives around without it on. If it makes a difference I have seen other grand cherokee's with removed rear windows, but those were the one's where the window can open using those struts.

I also see it a lot at the beaches here as to fit surf boards in some SUVs.

I've never seen a state or country mandate anything other than a windshield.
>>
>>17550329
In Massachusetts cars are only legally required to have windshield wipers. Not the actual windshield itself, just the wipers.

Everything's illegal in CA. Whatever it is you want to do.

Is it better to buy a used car from a private seller or a car dealership?

A private dealership.
>>
Depends. Car Dealership if you need help with financing. Private Seller if you know what you want and have the money for it at that time.
>>
Private sales offer better prices, dealer sales offer better legal protection, at least where I live.

That felling when you get rid of a moneypit. Laughing MY Ass to the Bank and feeling bad for the next owner.

But seriously thank the auto gods I got rid of that POS.

Anyone sell their money pits either to a dealer or to some other person and cant help but fell bad for the sucker who bought it?

Also did you see your POS on the road and not even shed a tear, More like a middle finger to the POS you had to deal with.

Dealers never pay decent prices for used cars.
I always sold mine directly.
My last money pit was bought buy a mechanic who obviously gutted it for parts immediately as he recognized what a piece of shit it was.
>>
My current moneypit is way too fun right now to scrap, but know it's just a leech on my funds right now but I don't care I still love it.
>>
I bought a 1995 300zx tt with a lot of issues. For everything I fixed, something else would break. It took me awhile to decide if I wanted to get rid of it because I wanted to make it work, but after throwing down 8k into it I decided to throw in the towel. 02 sensors, ignition coils, spark relay going out, ect. I didn't even begin to address the outside of the car. It needed a full paint job. Inside was in decent condition.

They are heroin dealing wifeswappers, nothing to be proud about

They all ride harleys because their founding fathers did, even if the man himself said they suck and he'd get a metric as soon as possible
>>
>>17550180
Their founding fathers did because they were cheap surplus leftovers from ww2.

I bet the people who started the hells angels in the 50's would cringe at the drug dealing trash it has became if they could see it today.

What's up /o/?

I have about 3500 USD saved up and I would like to either buy a small SUV like a GMC Jimmy, a Chevy Blazer or a small pickup like a Chevy S-10, a GMC Sonoma and a Ford Ranger. I've read through some online forums on what some pros and cons are for the models I've mentioned, but in the comments I read alot of

"Well those problems are with the 199[x] models, not the 199[x] ones yada yada yada"

Are there some models that I mentioned that I should just flat out avoid? I don't have my heart set on a specific vehicle, and if you have other recommendations, I will surely read your testaments on why that vehicle is a good choice, if you have a personal story worth sharing on one the models I've mentioned, please share.

I'm still saving up money, but when the time is right, I'm going to go on my first car hunt so wish me luck Ya'll and thank you for reading my post
