Have you guys noticed how almost all Japanese cars are literally fucking copy attempts at original Western Designs? It's like they are incapable of coming up with their own, successful and original ideas.
>The sexiest Jap cars are literally copies, take the NSX for example
A sad attempt at cashing in the Italian Sport car design (Testarossa).
>MR2
Same shit as the NSX (Poor man's Ferrari, anyone?)
>Celica?
Literally Japs trying to make a Mustang from the 70's.
>AE86?
F-box idea steal
Can you guys help me find more examples? Seems to me like about the online line of Jap cars that are original, is the Skyline.

FTFM
Do you value Originality over copy/facsimile?
>McDonald's spends time and money researching locations.
>Burger King builds where McDonald's is.
One of the ways Japanese keep there costs down is to let the competitor test the market for trends, styling, consumer wants, then copy.
It is a synergistic marketing solution, that broadends the market.
The Japanese take less risk, have fewer failed cars/platforms.
Most American car companies are gone... but have more new ones too.
The Japanese had to make up "new" companies like Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura, just for American market.

It's a shame that the US doesn't get it. I was in India a week back and my friend over there has a 16' Swift. It's so controllable and fun to drive and it was a diesel.
>tfw when this car would be the base model or cheap as fuck in the USDM
>>17599523
suzuki in general has nice cars, but amerimongrels were too stupid to buy them.

Do you hate driving?
Welp, here we are. A S/o/Cal general thread. Due to the large amount of interest we've been getting (and people's inability to browse the catalogue form meets), here's a rundown of our planned events for the next few months.
>Main Meets
As per rwdcivic, main meets are at high noon, every 3rd Saturday of every month.
8/19
9/16
10/21
They will be held at either Angeles Crest Hwy or Glendora Mountain Road.
>"Mini" meets, aka nightc/o/re, gran autism/o/, whatever you want to call it
They typically happen at random, but the thread will be up at least 1 week in advance. Keep an eye out on the catalogue.
7/22 6:30AM
Cars and Coffee, South OC
990 Avenida Vista Hermosa
San Clemente, CA 92673
We're doing Ortega afterwards.
8/12, 8:00AM
Palomar Mountain
Keep in mind that the mini meets normally happen early in the morning to avoid traffic and cyclists.
>kik
Show up to the meet if you want an invite. Most of the action happens on the groupchat.

Hey /o/, any of you here informed about oldtimers? My father wants to sell two that we own , a 1929 Plymouth practically in mint condition (all stock parts nothing changed) and a 1947 Vaux Holl , the Vaux Holl has had it's engine changed so it's not really stock. He's planning to sell them and there have been some people interested but we have no clue how much they're actually worth. How much do you think a 1929 Plymouth in good condition should go for?
>Pic related.
>Plymouth
And here's the Vaux Holl, how much do you think they're worth?
What /Hybrid/ do you drive?
2010 Honda Insight bought it used for $7k/50k miles
Benefits of /Hybrid/ cars?
>Car is cheap
>Replacement parts are cheap
>Don't break down
>Fantastic mpg
>Regenerative Braking System
>Higher Resale Value
>Very durable
Debate me if you're a skeptic.
And they look good.
Interior is good as well.
Despite common misconceptions against the Hybrid for being "underwhelming" in it's carrying capacity I will easily disprove of this.
Got a little Honda Emergency, maybe you guys can help... bear with me here:
>I bought a 2010 Honda Element from a used car dealer in Atlanta. I bought it almost 2 years ago. The car had 106,000 miles. Prior to buying the car I took it to over to a nearby Honda Dealership for the biggest inspection they have, (182 points). They signed off on everything and I bought the car.
>At 110,000 miles I went to NTB and got an oil change. During the oil change, the tech called me and said "hey man, we checked your brake resovoir and someone put oil in the brake lines, you can tell because the rubber is swollen".I was in a hurry, and wasn't sure the tech was right. I called a few car savvy friends and they said that just isn't possible, if there were oil in the brake lines the brakes would have died long ago. So I ignored it, and just went on with my life.
>Today I was getting my car serviced for the 120,000 mile mark at a good mechanic in my town. Tech brings me back into the shop to look under the hood, and sure enough, the brake lines HAVE been filled with oil. Holy sh**.
I have called the used car dealer (they are denying responsibility), and have called The Honda Dealer (they are denying responsibility). I need new brake lines, new master cylinder and new calipers. Is there any recourse financially? Can I take this to court?
>Taking your car to an oil change place

>Honda Emergency
I'm not familiar with that model
Unless you can prove they did it (hire a PI, etc) you're SOL. You can ding them with a bad Yelp review, that's about it.
What's /o/'s opinion on Vauxhall/Opel? I used to think they were a shitty peasant brand, but recently they seem to have done a 180 and have aesthetics similar to Jaguar and other high end manufacturers. Ironically, this happened just as they were bought by Peugeot. Anyone have any experience with these 2017 models? It seems too good to be true that they're suddenly a respectable car brand.
>>17611918
They used to make really cool stuff, from mini muscle cars to big comfy landbarges with a GM V8 under the hood.
Then they basically went to shit after the Omega, in the late '90s, like a lot of German manufacturers.
After killing off the Vectra and replacing it with the Insignia they started making pretty good cars again. The new Insignia is their last car developed under full GM ownership, and now there are rumours of PSA wanting to turn them into an electric-only brand which is kinda sad.
>>17611676
Who dis
Did you stick around and interact with him?
>Kind of want to put my WAT sticker on my car
>Pretty sure I don't want to interact with people from /o/ after seeing numerous meetups gone wrong threads

You live in a grocery store?
Broke uni kid here. Thinking of picking up this 2007 Honda Fit 5 speed m/t as a daily driver for $1.5k. It has 230k kms on the clock. It's been looked after pretty well, no major issues.
I know that the first gen Fits tend to get rust under the seams towards the back of the car near where the hatch opens. Are there any other issues I should be aware of before I pull the trigger and buy this beater?
I'm planning on driving it for around 3-4 years. Obviously not retarded, and will be taking care of it and doing regular maintenance work.
>>17611617
230km's is quite a lot how do you know they took care of it?
>>17611657
the owner has a full maintenance history. There was some rust on the undercarriage, however the body was clean except for a tiny spot of rust on the rear right fender. I should also mention that there was no major rust on any of the suspension components.
I don't know if it matters but the owner is also throwing in a set of winter tires as well, and they seem to have pretty decent tread. The guy said the tires were 3 years old.
>>17611617
Watch out for leaking along the rubber seal of hatch and doors... Mine used to leak like a bittch
How much money does your car cost monthly?
How much savings do you keep for fixing the car?
>>17611531
>$0
>$0
It's 3 years old and paid cash, have extended warranty and service plan included.
It literally only needs gas and 20 a month for insurance.
>>17611531
>$567 per month not including gas
>seem to manage saving about $500 before something breaks and it all goes away
Why does no one give a shit about the Hellcat? It literally makes 700 horsepower and is available for $50k or less in some instances. Instead people are spending almost the same amount of money for meme wannabe M2s like the m235i or retarded shit like Golf Rs/Type Rs/WRX STIs
What gives?
>>17611216
You know there are probably entire communities dedicated to dodge vehicles. Just because /o/ doesn't talk about it doesn't mean there aren't people who are
>>17611216
maybe because only braindead rednecks and benchracers give fucks about 0-60 times and horsepower?
Maybe because you can build a faster for the hold-wheel-straight, keep-throttle-down """"""races""""" way cheaper than 50k?
>>17611216
Well it never costs the same as MSRP because of fucking dealer markups. Also it's based on an already outdated platform with relatively low gas mileage (even among ponycars), from a corporation (FCA) that is notorious for making relatively unreliable cars. I don't even know if that sentiment about FCA is true but it's there and it keeps people from buying their vehicles.
I like the Hellcat a lot (esp. with the new Demon widebody) but it's got too many issues as a sportscar or as a regular usable car.
i know that the /DAT/ is gone because of dumb fights, but i've been looking at studying abroad in straya, and i want to know which unis are good?
which are bad?
(also nsr because yes)
which places should one stay away from?

What causes Audi drivers to be so shitty?
>constantly drive up your ass
>speeding all the time
>do stupid and risky overtakes
>generally shitty spatial awareness and inconsiderate to other road users
>cars look ugly as fuck too (BMW drivers is the same but at least their cars look quite nice)
>>17611039
They're subconsciously trying to justify massively overpaying for their literal VW with meme """"AWD""""
>>17611039
Audi is just barely affordable for the lower classes, with multi-year loans. Lower class people tend to engage in primitive posturing behaviors. They're usually stuck in dead-end lower-middle class jobs, and a financed low-end premium car like an Audi or BMW is the most they ever could hope for in terms of status symbols.
>>17611039
They're like the middle ground between VW and BMW, so instead of the typical rich snob BMW owner who thinks he owns the road, we got poorfag with a car he can't really afford but is desperate for one because it's a glorified VW and that makes him look good. Such narcissism makes it so they think they own the road.
Eurocuck going to college in need of a cheap and economic car, is this 1.2l 16v clio a good investment?
>>17611038
French, so no.
>>17611038
Light, small, okay chassis, parts cost fuckall, engine is solid but weak, don't see why not.
The interior is incredibly fucking cheap though.
>>17611038
They are reliable and will take a load of abuse but the interiors are horrid and it's a total pain at high speeds, just don't go anywhere long distance
