My in-laws bought a shit Mazda with expired tags and a blown head gasket, there is no way to trace it back to them and the seller doesn't seem to exist. How illegal would it bee to take wheels and leave it on the street, and what's the likely hood of them getting caught down the line.
Why do the wheels need to be taken off?
Why not fix the headgasket?
>>17688502
You could get money for it at a scrap yard. Call a tow truck to come get it
You could also donate it to charities that come and collect the vehicle
>>17688502
>>17688519
It's not in there name so they can't give it away or sell it, it's a pos 90's 626 that just got $200 ticket for bad tags, probably won't pass smog, and it's tags expired over a year ago.
So I've got a silvia s15 with an sr20det, stock turbo. Previous owner tuned it to 12psi.
I think my blow off valve might be fucked. As I hit boost, it goes up to around 14.5psi or so. After this it then drops down to around 13psi. As I let off the accelerator, I get massive compressor surge.
Is this because my blow off valve might be blocked? Or isn't handling all the boost enough? Will getting an electronic boost controller help to solve this? Or do I have to replace the BOV?
It sounds like it has a failing manual boost controller. And youre getting bad boost surge. Mess with your boost controller setting and dial it back. And the chirping you hear when you let off the accelerator is air hitting the throttle body and surging into the turbo. Which means you have too small of a blow off valve.
>>17688492
Thanks, that's what I suspected.
>>17688501
if its tuned at 12psi why are you hitting 14-15psi?
Do you have an AFR gauge? I can only imagine the terrible fucking AFR you are getting.

sup /o/ I just got a call from my buddy. I am out of state for a few months and I left my car sitting. Well anyways I told my buddy to drive the car a lil to charge the battery and to throw a lil gas in it. He just called me saying he got a 500$ ticket for going like 30 over the speed limit and he couldn't find my registration or insurance so they hit him for that.
My license is on the ticket but its all in his name. Can this come back to me?
Its registered and insured in florida if that helps.
>>17687921
well your "buddy" is a shithead
Speeding tickets, and all other traffic violations aside from municipal stuff like parking tickets, are issued to the driver.
He will fuck himself with this ticket, not you. If he isn't listed as a driver on your policy (even as an occasional driver), you should be fine because there's no way for your insurance to find out about it. They'd run an abstract check, OR be notified by the courts upon conviction, ONLY if he's actually listed on your policy.
Also your buddy is a fucking moron, you shouldn't let him drive your car. He could've wrecked that shit or gotten it impounded, and then you'd be really fucked.
>>17687921
Should've told the cops he stole it, just to be extra safe. A little conviction for felony grand theft auto would smarten him up a bit. If not, I'm sure the 12" AIDS-stick nigger assrape he endured sure would.

Why do small turbine engines cost more than car engines? They have less moving parts so you'd think they would be cheaper? Take the Alison 250 which has 250HP and weighs about 120 pounds.. it costs 300k. Whereas a V8 is like 12k, makes 500hp, and weighs 500lbs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allison_Model_250
Are the tolerances really that much tighter in a turbine engine, or is it just because of mass production? I know that comparable piston aviation engines are only like 20k so it must not be quality control that drives up cost?
Wouldn't turbines make the most efficient, simplest, and lightest engine for a car if it's coupled to an electric drive system?
Because if your ls1 blows up you come to a screeching halt or if you're lucky coast to a stop
If your turbine blows up you 9/11 a few houses
>>17687491
They're not produced at the scale car engines are.
>>17687491
Turbine engines are on a totally different level from any piston engine, even the small ones operate at extreme temperatures and speeds which means expensive materials. Also, most of their sales are probably military contract, so the price is probably inflated from that, too.
I'm obsessed with driving. I can't sleep at night unless I keep thinking of ways to make my car faster, stiffer, or trying to find ways to buy a faster car. Almost everywhere I drive it's at almost full tilt. 75mph through a residential 35mph zone. 100+ every time on the highway with a 55 sign. I've done 3 autocross events but havn't hit a track yet (don't think I can make it before winter). This is ruining my life and it's all I can think about.
Sorry that your parents didn't give you enough attention and you have relationship problems so you have to obsess over shit like that to try and fill the empty, wanting hole inside of you

I run Waze everywhere I go and every cop spot is super obvious around here. I'm mostly afraid of hitting a deer or something around a blind corner because my car has zero safety.
Will the front LSD make that big of a difference?? Is it worth waiting for, or should i just pick up a 2016-2017.
It didn't have a LSD to begin with? Where exactly did they allocate the 40k in the price?
With torque vectoring I don't see how it would make much difference. The dealer markups will be astronomical too. Just get the regular.
>>17687126
Really, only if you want it in Race Red. Otherwise just buy an aftermarket LSD with the money you save.
Volvo 240 as my first car - yay or nay? The reason I want one of these is that I live in Norway and cars are expensive as FUCK to own unless it's classified as a veteran car, which means it has to be over 30 yrs old.
>>17687020
do it.
>>17687028
Can't lie. It's pretty tempting. Manual, RWD, safe and reliable
>Find a volvo 240 with 230k miles on it
>Drop pebbles in the cylinder
>Flush the pebbles with 10w-30
>Take off the radiator for weight savings
>Air filter, too
>It'll still make it to 1 million miles

Is the early 00s Mini Cooper S a decent commuter? I'm currently looking for a new job, and it looks like I'm going to have to start commuting a lot farther than I currently have to, going from about a 3 mile round trip, to about a 100 mile round trip. This means I'm going to sell my Jeep, which gets ~11mpg highway, and buy something more fuel efficient.
I want something that gets ~25mpg, but is still fun to drive around, has a back seat for the rare occasion I need it, and has a bit of cargo room in the back. It'll be a commuter/nicer beater and I'm going to be paying cash so I'm looking to keep it under $5,000. I've always liked the Mini Cooper S, and it seems like this car fits the bill. Not sure how they are as far as reliability, cost of ownership, and the differences between years, so I was hoping there might be a couple people on /o/ who have experience with them who could help me out. Any useful information is appreciated.

>Is the early 00s Mini Cooper S a decent commuter?
They're fun to drive, good looking, and decently fuel efficient
And that's where the good stops.
It's cramped.
It's unreliable.
And repairing it when it breaks down is expensive as fuck because BMW

Hey guys. Looking into buying a cheap 90's Japanese SUV... while looking, I found the Montero and Montero Sport on CL for relatively cheap. Late 90's early 00's for $2k or so with 100-150k miles.
Reading online it looks like they are really popular under different names around the world. Also looks to be decently reliable as well.
Anyone have any info or stuff to look at if I go look at some?
I dont really need the 3rd row of the full size Montero but I hear you get a lot more bang-for-your-buck with them.
177k here, look for one with stick shift if you are not a fan of tranny rebuilds.
After I did mine, it's been running smoothly for months now, just remember to do your usual maintenance stuff like oil and whatnots.
The only problem mine has so far is
>Speedometer stopped working
>Odometer froze at 177806
