Porsche changes a lot in the Panamera/Cayenne/Macan from the Audi platform. The engines are still Porsche proprietary engines and more of the suspension and drivetrain are overbuilt like they are in the sports cars.

For example, the Audi A7 has its engine out in front of the axle, while the Panamera on the same platform has it more inboard.

If its just on the sides and not in hard to reach spots, you could probably sand the rust off if its not too deep and repaint it.
