Will these things actually dramatically decrease the lifespan of your car battery or is that just a normie meme?

using a battery decreases the life of the battery, yes

no one gives a shit that the radio and your dash uses up your battery's lifespan tho
>>
Will it decrease the lifespan? Yes, simply by existing the lifespan is diminishing. Drastically? No.

with the alternator running, it's unlikely to do any substantial draw. even if you had a usb type c connector with power delivery, most portable devices aren't going to take more than 15V @ 1.5A = 30 watts.

now if you run in accessory power a ton (or your car has always on DC outlets and you use it with the car off), or you charge something larger (e.g. 65W/90W laptop charger), that's bad for the battery. try to keep those devices only charging when the car is actually started and the alternator is running.

but most phones are going to take a top output of about 15W (5V @ 3A under USB Power delivery or 9V @ 6A for Qualcomm quick charge [many android flagships use this).

What does /o/ think of the '00 'rolla CE?

Is this a good deal? I don't mind the lack of hubcaps or the transmission, I just love the car overall.

I like R51s. Just a shame they didn't really have a robust diesel option, but the Renault V6 diesel has impressive performance.
Anyway, standard wheels with 265/75R16 or 265/70R17, Bilstien shocks and Dobinson springs. Dunno about rock sliders, but I'd approach any local fab joint that dabbles in a bit of offroad barwork.
Which engine did you go for?

thinking of buying a car from craigslist.
some people i see are asking $8K or above of physical cash on hand.

is this a joke or are people just gonna carry around $8K worth of bills for a car purchase?

any other tips for craigslist buying i should worry about so i dont get fucked over?

Usually for transactions like that you would go to the bank and get the cash after you decide you like the car and wish to purchase it. Some other shit you wanna do is meet somewhere public with cameras, some cop shops even let you do Craig's List transactions in their parking lot. Never take out cash before you have seen the title, looked over the car, and are sure you want to buy it. If you are intending on haggling on the price, never show them the cash you brought, tell them you brought X amount of money and that's all you have. Set the price you absolutely want to pay as X, and if they want more than that, give them your info and walk away. Bring a friend, and ask the seller if you can take the car to a mechanic for an inspection before you purchase it.

>is this a joke or are people just gonna carry around $8K worth of bills for a car purchase?

Its not a joke and let me tell you how craigslist meet ups go down if you decide to buy a car with that much cash.

either you
>meet up at sellers house
>check car out
>decide you want and go to the closest bank
>take money out and go back to sellers house and pay him/her

or
>meet up with seller at bank
>check out car
>decide you want it and withdraw money.

its not rocket science

Also I have a friend that always has $10k on him for some reason. so yeah some people do have money like that on them.

ALSO make sure to bring a friend.

Buying cars privately on CL can be a headache sometimes but will always be better than buying from a stealership no matter what anyone says
>>
>>17716414
Yeah I bought a car with 13k in cash. Had to go to 2 bank branches to get that much cash.

I've also accepted checks for cars because I know cash is cumbersome. I hold onto the title and bill of sale until there's no chance of a cancelled check. I give them one car key and a receipt that says they are responsible for the car from that day forward and if the check doesn't clear I will go pick it up. Most middle class white people aren't out to scam anyone.

About 9 months ago I made a critical timing error and now require a "sedan" to haul around a screeching little shit factory. So I'm going to test-drive this car tomorrow and I was hoping someone here could run the VIN for me. Car fax lists 46 records but I don't have a debit card.. 1g1aL55f967690748

Thanks I felt something was off about this car. I found I'm better with saving money when I keep it in hand. No hidden fees or ledger balances. Requesting paper checks also pisses off my h.r Dept. which I love to do.

Hello board. Complete newb here, only kinda knowledgeable about cars. I'm a bit impulsive and grabbed an '06 2.5s. Did I shit the bed? An '04 solara sle coupe fell through. I like how they drive but should I put a "header" for the pre-cat? The dreaded floorboards don't seem to be an issue. Obvi change fluids. Just how shitty are these brakes or rotors?

>>17716166

You poor soul. Those things are KNOWN for problems. A header would solve your precat problems, but those cars are so shoddily built something will always go wrong.
Thanks Carlos.

Cant be as bad as the five inches of water from the ford i mentioned's, a/c compressor. This one has received regular rust proofing and comes down to a cap. My mechy is good so fingers crossed. Test drive showed nothing abnormal but I can't stand mush. I don't like toyotas for that reason so here I am. Kinda scared lol but thanks for the reply

How much would you pay (or expect to pay) for a well built and tuned 1st gen miata with a turbo charged engine with complete headers on back focusing on weight and performance, while everything else remains stock, except the suspension, which is replaced and tuned with something that lowers the car about 1 inch, looks good and feels great on the track, while still being acceptable on the street?

Same question for the 2nd generation miata.

Trying to figure out what a good price point is for reselling my friend's miatas. Local prices have a lot of variation for similar specs.

>>17716152
depends on the mileage, rust, how it runs and your location.

check your local cl for miatas and figure it out from there
>>
>>17716163
I've checked cl and it is like $1800 to $9000. And the $9000 is mostly stock. Where as a modded can be anywhere from $3000 to $8000.

My buddy is being shipped out soon and he is going to leave them in my driveway for the time being, but I can't keep them there for long thanks to my neighborhood's CCNR's. Trying to not rip him off, but don't want them sitting for a while, either.

Mileage on the 1st gen is 155k. No rust that I'm aware of. Very well maintained, no dents, but pains is probably 7.5/10. Runs great, strong, no problems.

The 2nd gen is pretty much the same thing but with 8.5/10 paint. He took care of his rigs.
>>
>>17716190
>$3000 to $8000
In not-as-good condition. Forgot to include that.

Would $9000 be a good price point for the 1st gen and $12,000 be good for the 2nd gen? Seems high to me.

Find an empty parking lot with some shopping carts and practice drifting till you are accurate down to an inch or two. Winter tires don't replace skill. An idiot will wind up upside down in the ditch regardless of vehicle type, drivetrain or tires.
