Looking to buy a new car, and have some questions about it. Not sure how things work on this board as I generally dwell on /mu/ but I'll give it a shot.
I'm interested in a 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen. I've been looking for a smaller, new, wagon for some time now and this car seems to lead the pack in a lot of ways. I was initially interested in Outbacks, but my attention was drawn to this car because of its stellar reviews, affordability, and fuel economy. Plus, I think the styling is incredibly appealing. One drawback is that it's FWD. Initially I was looking for AWD because of the harsh winters here in the northeast but I've driven FWD cars in the winter before plenty of times and I'm still alive. I'm sure if I slap on some adequate tires and drive sensibly I'll be okay.
My main concerns are: I've heard of reliability issues with VWs. I'm not exactly the most car savvy guy around but I'd like to know of any common issues with them or particularly this model. The one im looking at only has 18,000 miles on it however. Previously I owned a 2007 BMW 750Li, and I loved it. But with it being a BMW and a newer one at that, it just got so costly and ridiculous with the repairs. It was so damn finicky and nearly impossible to work on by yourself. Basically I want to avoid that from happening to me again. With the VW being European, and German specifically, am I gonna run into ludicrous repair prices again? Thanks for any help and sorry if I'm a massive dumbass. I'm sure I've broken many rules I dont know of in posting this.

I'll also add that i'd be trading in 2 cars towards the purchase of this vehicle. its listed currently at $18,000, so the trade ins would shave off some. Plus it is tax exempt for me. also, I'll receive a discount through buying it from this specific dealer. So im not sure exactly but I'm sure I could get it for no more than 13 or 14k at the most. I'd be buying with cash as well. That's always alluring for salesmen.

>wants a vw
but really i wouldnt buy a vw, they arent any more reliable than any other car, but they have more expensive repair parts and labor generally.
as a subaru owner, i will tell you to get the outback, because i think they are great vehicles. but if you do, be wary that the fit and finish of the interior isnt as nice on a subaru as a VW
the sticky may be a little outdated, but please read it, its highly informative

I actually just sat through and read it haha. thank you for the honest reply! I do really love outbacks and it would be a practical purchase. I do a good amount of driving and often carry music equipment so I need something with space, but not crazy amounts. Gas mileage is a plus and styling to me is important. After driving a chevy blazer and a mercury milan most of my life, I'd like to have something I actually enjoy, ya know?
How expensive are parts/repairs of a VW in comparison to bmw or mercedes? I can live with slightly expensive in comparison to domestics or hondas or toyotas, but I simply cannot live with another fucking bimmer
I'd had my heart set on an AP2 S2000 for a while now, but have also been looking at the ND. It'd be easier to get the ND in good condition since it's far newer, and might be easier to maintain in general, which while that isn't a huge deal, is a little bonus.
>>17789355
If you plan to turbo it or some shit get a s2000. Otherwise Miata.
>>17789355
S2k's are reliable and quite easy to maintain. I have an AP1 with 113k miles I daily drive, and besides usual servicing, maintenance and wear/tear parts I haven't really spent much on it. It does tend to eat through tyres and brakes fairly quickly, but that's more to do with my driving than the car itself. Overall, it's a great car, so I'd presume the newer model is just as good if not better
I'd definitely suggest an AP2 - I'm considering upgrading to one myself
>>17789403
Why do you want to make the switch? I also have an ap1.

NOPE not a good road in this entire state. Stay the fuck out.
It just leaves more for me.
There isn't a single bit of Toe-gay in this entire state. I've been living here 20 years and the only hairpin turn I can even think of is Schooley's mountain road, and that's like one fucking turn.
The state is also overcopped as fuck because revenue generation. Enjoy stealthcruisers literally everywhere.
You want Touge? go up to vermont or upstate new york or some shit
> Not too much power, wont need to worry about speeding tickets or reckless accidents.
> More experienced drivers on the road will be able to identify you as a novice, and drive safely around your car.
> Toyota reliability your parents will approve of
> Small, RWD - good training wheels for a more adult car. Small size and lack of passenger space will minimize damage to others in the event of careless driving.

You should probably look up the insurance rates first. Around here lots of kids get them as graduation presents.
>>17789202
A lack of power never stopped me from getting caught speeding
No one buys this car because they think they're a novice, and no one looks at them like they are
It's a re-badged Subaru
Every young 86/BRZ owner I've met brags about drifting it, 4 have crashed
I approve of this bait.
Okay, I did a donut at the top of a parking garage, the top floor. when I was leaving I was at the last floor a security guard said my license plate out loud on his radio, I turned off my lights and sped off. What should I predict is gonna happen to me now? Their was no cops and the guard was no where near me when I did the donut. I think I may get a reckless driving ticket, will I?

>buy german luxury brand
>make it look like jap rice
fucking why?
>>17789143
I think they're styled this way because people want them like that, simply put.
I live in the UK, and most people who drive these are either older men who are desperate to show everyone muh fast car, or younger drivers who love this sort of styling.
>mercedes
>luxury brand
wut
riced straight from the factory faggot
How do we stop them?
Stop buying them
why would you want to?

Wtf does quicktime have to do with japanese auto manufacterers?
You get 50 million dollars, but you are never allowed to own or drive a car ever again. Would you do it?
Hell yes. I'd buy a huyabusa.
You posted this thread on /ck/ but with 100 million.
Stop skimping out on us.

There's no way they actually thought that could work. I refuse to believe anyone that dumb can drive a car.
sup /o/
So my dad is going to give me his 2008 tahoe for free since he just bought a new truck
Now he doesnt want me to sell it and get something else because he bought this truck brand new from the dealer and just finished paying for it a couple of years ago
But im in college and im kinda worried a tahoe is too "family-oriented" or something. Will i look like a soccermom? I mean i know minivans are the least cool type of vehicle but do tahoes fall in the same category as mom-mobiles or can they ever be considered cool?
Nigga just be happy he gave you a car

Isn't that the point?
Okay /o/, I have some options for a classic car that are in my area, if you can redpill me on each of them and tell me if they'd be a good car to own and mod.
My options are as follows:
Mach 1 1971
Mach 1 1972
Chevelle 1972
Riviera 1966
>mfw i might have a classic muscle
1971 & 1972 Mach 1 - Slightly impaired by regulations, parts are pretty common, hp from 141 (302) to 375 (429), the most common engine is the 351 (177-285 hp), weight - around 3500 lbs
1972 Chevelle - Slightly impaired by regulations, parts are very common, huge assortment of engine options which greatly vary on the model, weight - 3500 lbs
1966 Riviera - No regulations, luxury land barge, heavy, shit handling, parts are harder to find, 340 hp from a 425 engine, weight - around 4200 lbs
Your best bet is probably a Mach 1, they are almost guaranteed to have a decently powerful 351, they don't weigh as much as other cars of the era, and have a decent community that can help you with any issues.
If you need any other info, look it up on automobile-catalog.com
Make sure to check for rust because that can cost a lot to fix
>redpill me
>>17788692
get the riviera fuckin sex on wheels
How can you guys buy cars with tens of thousands of miles that have absorbed random strangers' bodily excretions which are now infused into the interior? Is it weird to care about this kind of thing? People are gross.

Have you heard of detailing?

I get off by sitting in a skid mark that was left by the previous owner ok???
Bought 3 turbos from a professional builder, was told by a different builder that those turbos wouldnt achieve 1300hp in the triple setup. (Hx40 custom to 67.7 and (2) hx35's custom to 64) anyone have any expert input?
Professional build consultant here, I'd aim for 14 turbos
Nice turbos. What are those red things they are standing on?
That is cute asf.
So cute, my gf rushed over to look to from across the room. Nice doggos, OP.
