Hey/o/! Anyone can put aftermarket wheels/rims on their car.
Have you ever put wheels on your car from a different model of car? Whether it was from the same make as your vehicle, or a different model from an entirely different manufacturer (and you just punched out or customized the center caps). What worked, what didn't?
I rocked old BBS-style alloys originally from a Toyota Corolla on my old Mazda Protege. The center caps were non-branded, so that was a plus.
I use to put my acura alloys on my Miata when I wanted to get hektic
Acr neon wheels on base neon.
Have a parts car with good tires so just swapped both wheel and tire. Dont have any pictures looks horrible some highschooler painted them years ago

I got a set of BMW bottlecaps for my EG hatch. Would rather have basketweaves but for $60 you cant go wrong, they were cheaper than fucking steelies.
>be me driving home from work in parents 2014 camry because Lexus is300 is in shop for engine swap
>live in suburbs with long stretches of 55 mph roads and stop lights
>see truck with 10000k hid driving close to my tail
>not in the mood to rush home going 55 mph on cruise/eco and the left lane is open
>180 feet away stop light turns yellow
>slaps automatic gear shift stick to the left out of eco and downshift for g force and hastily up shift back to 4th gear at 6000 rpm
>camry going too fast, I can't control the thrill
>head can't contain the amount of g-force the camry has to offer
>passes light yellow light without it even blinking while trailing truck from a distance
>mfw people tell me to go for stick because it's more entertaining

See, that's what /o/ doesn't get. If you know how to work the gas pedal on an automatic you get tons of fun and damn near don't miss a step.

So, a girl who works in a store where I live accused me of backing into her car a couple weeks ago. It's a Chevy Malibu LT, leased, not sure what year.
I'm not trying to deal with insurance on this, or have it reported really, because I didn't know I had done it when it happened. I've been having knocking issues because of my spark plugs so I didn't feel my truck scrape her, I figured it was just my motor knocking so I drove off.
Any idea what something like this would cost for a body shop to fix? Is something like this even worth going to a body shop over? I think she's expecting me to find out stuff like this, as I told her to go to a body shop last week and she said yes and still hasnt contacted me.
She flipped her shit on me when I was shopping though, said it was a lease and that I was fucked.
Probably just insurance fraud bro

You're looking at like $1000 easy.

Tell her you're getting around to it for as long as she'll believe you.
Hi, /o/. Does anyone have any good recommendations on video series/web pages/books I can read to understand the very basic, fundamental aspects of cars? I'm looking to get my first soon, and I'd like to understand what I'm controlling.
ChrisFix and EricthecarGuy on Youtube.
>>16884253
Those channels were cool, but all the info is kind of scattered. I was hoping to find a video that is like a couple hours long and goes through all the fundamentals.
Oh well, guess I should start with the engine and work up from there.
I learned in 2003 via howstuffworks.com
An engine is an air pump that is powered by the pressure released from burning compressed gas and air. Valves open and close at certain times to let air/gas in or exhaust out, they are opened by lobes on camshafts.
Most engines are cooled by a jacket of water around them so they don't get too hot, radiators cool this water.
The rotation of the crankshaft at the bottom of the engine is sent to the transmission which has several gears that multiply the power so you can be in the safe range of engine rotational speed at a large range of vehicle speeds.
There is a differential that splits the rotation to the left and right to go to the wheels, this has a single ratio that further multiplies power.
Is that simple enough? Too simple? I have a mech. eng. degree, have rebuilt my own engine, tuned my own turbo car's computer, and worked for 2 auto companies so I'll probably be able to explain about any question.
Do you guys do it yourself or have you ever had it done at a detailing shop?
Recently bought a 2008 Cadillac in Black Cherry. The car has many swirls and fine scratches that are visible up close.
I'd like to know what price range I'd be looking at to have it done if I chose professionaly.
Also, is there anything I should worry about regarding the paint if the procedure were to be done?
>>16884065
God job, you bought black which is a detailers worst nightmare.
I do my own detailing, but I don't bother with high speed buffing because its too time consuming for daily drivers that are 20 plus years old.
What you pay? Depends on the person. Someone could just cut it, buff it, wax it and be done. Someone could tape off all the trim, measure the clearcoat carefully with a device, cut with greater precision, buff, and slap on 2-3 coats of wax. It could get you in alot of money. Good guys don't work for cheap, and expect not to have a car for at least two days.
>>16884113
So what price range can i expect from a meticulous, anal, detailer compared to a more basic package? I'd like to go with the former, as I am average in DIY.
Also, does hand polishing show a noticable difference in the removal of swirls?
What are some good looking cheap muscle cars? I know usually those two things never go together with older cars.

I know NOTHING about cars.....Next week I'm heading to a few dealerships next week to inquire. Budget is 25k and aiming for a full-size SUV. Advice?
>>16883078
do kegel exercises.
3k lifted civic
>>16883078
Look around on autotrader first so you know what your dealerships have available and you aren't searching aimlessly. Compare prices/mileage/etc.
25k Will likely get you a mid 2000's SUV if you're going fullsize. American cars might be cheaper, and this might be seen as a meme, but really, stay away from anything FCA/Ford. FCA/Ford from the mid 2000's is absolute shit and will give you nothing but problems. They might be a few grand cheaper but you'll quickly spend that and more in repairs. I'd recommend a Honda or Toyota, but take into account there is the "Toyota Tax".
Once you find something you like, read up on it and do your research. Certain cars might have quirks or known engine issues, some might be easy fixes or some might be recurring, but if you go mid 2000's like I'm assuming all of that should be well documented across forums/the internet by now.
Godspeed anon, please don't come back here with a chrysler or I'll laugh at you.

I can forgive a sport truck or engines with 8+ cylinders. a normal pickup truck with a V6 or a gas i4 is gross though.
Prediction(based on fact): Loses 40% of its value in 3 years. Hits (magic bullet) of 67% lost in 8 years.
Yeah, yeah I know all about "it's not an investment", but facts are facts. This trucks value will go down faster than OP's Mom at a blacked.com video shoot.

Does anyone on /o/ hypermile? Link for the uninitiated: http://ecomodder.com/ some folks are getting 100+mpg out of an EPA estimated 25mpg car. http://www.fuelly.com/forums/f8/109-mpg-zx2-gettin-the-hang-of-it-3350.html Thoughts? Opinions? Tips? Experiences? Pic unrelated
>negative
i put my foot to the floor 25% of the time and still get an average of 30.2 mpg, could do better but hypermiling is boring and id rather drive fast
>>16881890
Hypermiling irritates the other drivers so I don't do it. Keeping up with traffic is better than forcing everyone else to wait behind me as I coax out the last bit of coasting from my car, or have super slow accelerations, or refuse to keep up with traffic but instead go below the speed limit at a more efficient speed for MPG.
>>16881890
it's not practical where I live due to tight fast moving traffic, and I don't enjoy that sort of thing anyway
