Not trail braking into corners for that sweet weight transfer.
Lads, I'm planning to purchase a VW beetle, stripping down to the bare minimum, keeping only chassis and engine + wheels, then converting into a dune buggy.
I found one for 2k, nearby.
Budget's 5000.
Do-able?
pic semi-related
Also, buggy general.
Just got my predator 212 today. Am excited.
Anything is doable with the right amount of time, skill and tools/resources
What are your general concerns?
>>17113610
Well, I'm quite new to the whole auto hobby field, and I thought a buggy was a good start, am a youngfag, 18, and haven't really been exposed to any previous auto work.
I'm planning to pre-purchase a frame, but I'm not sure how the entire process works.
It's a sandrail type buggy, essentially completely stripped down car + frame.
The frame I'm buying is Bernier Buggy, 2 seat rail, and is all you need just the vehicle and the frame, then you assemble it?

ITT: small/big things about your car that annoy you and prevent you from loving it unconditionally.
>colour is okay but definitely not my favourite
>some halfassed repairs that aren't worth to correct
>unused LPG filler cap in bodywork instead of bumper
>some retard resprayed the bumpers and door protectors and literally couldn't bother to tape shit off properly
Let my aunt borrow my car for a week and she gave it back with thick scratches in the rear right corner. She said she didn't know how she got it even though I confronted her the day she did. Then there are mini scrapes all along the bumper. She only drove to and from work in the suburbs. I still think about it whenever I feel like waxing my car.
>>17113283
Apparently mid size sedan is too big and heavy for her. She thought the Kia soul was big and you can't completely forget about minivans. She also washes the car like its a big dish, put soap directly on rag then swirl the fuck out of one obscure spot and rinse.
>>17113297
Dumb bitch doesn't listen to anyone, I told her to get a medical cert or 2 years at CC. But no, she has no money so she has to stick with minimum wage job at Dunkin Donuts while paying car payments for a 2014 corolla s and her sons 2011 Nissan maxima and his fucking iPhones.
Daily reminder
We are hitting that period of time where all the kids are getting their first cars
Be on your best behavior. Remember to be helpful, remember not everyone wants a manual sports car.
Alright team, let's go!
>>17113196
What the hell do you mean? Was there a huge boom of fertility 16 years ago?
>>17113211
I think he's just referring to summer approaching.
>>17113913
Why do kids usually get cars when summer is approaching? Is this some american trend I am not aware of?
Or something like that.. see it all the time.. usually talking about camaro? Whats up with all that. It's like you do this, all of sudden granny car becomes a beast sleeper killer car?
eggs plain, please.
General Motors, also known as GM, manufactures an engine called the LS1. It's powerful, affordable, and easy to work with. GM also sells these LS1 engines by themselves which is why they are sometimes called crate engines...because you get the engine in a crate and are free to do whatever the hell you want with it. Because of these factors, people like to buy them and put them in a myriad of different cars. Miatas, RX-7s, and so on
>>17113138
In the offchance you aren't a troll, the LS1 is a super famous small block V8 (which means it can fit in all kinds of shit) engine from chevy.
Its a GM engine that you put in cars when you've finally grew up and want to go fast.
>both have 335hp
>both weigh about 3500lbs
>both have an LSD
>both have roughly a 50/50 weight distribution
>both red-line a bit past 7000 RPM
>both 20 MPG combined
The Camaro sounds better (no fake noise), has more grip, and costs less. The BMW has much better visibility, more torque, more trunk space, and looks a bit nicer.
Which is the better choice for a balanced sports car?
>>17112938
To me, the M240 sounds better, actually.
Also it's easier to tune and make more power out of the bimmer.
m240i because dat tuneability
As a huge camaro fan, get the bimmer. Even if a v6 1le is a great track car you will get tired of people asking if its the v8. With the bimmer, you'll just be accepted for what it is. Just think, would you rather tell people you drive a v6 camaro and have to explain that it actually is a good car? Or just say "I drive a bmw".
