I'm trying to help my brother-in-law find a Volvo. My problem is that I don't know much about Ford-era Volvos and most forums seem to lack any objectivity. One cunt will say the V40 is a shitbox and another will say it's the best car ever. I can't get him to consider a 900 model or an 850, so does anyone have knowledge to spare? I've heard the S- and V70's are okay. Any truth to that?

incorrect
save your money and don't buy an Oldvo

I just got my driver's license but when I was studying I used a diesel car, just stepping on the clutch then gas was enough to get the car moving on a ramp, but now my old Yaris runs in gasoline so I have to use the handbrake, but it feels so clunky and bad. My friend was driving behind me and I almost crashed with him because the car started falling. I barely got out of the situation but it was really embarrassing and dangerous
Can anyone give me a few tips on how to not fuck it up? I'm scared of going to places where I have to stop on ramps.
>>17173250
Practice
Handbrake on. Lift clutch until you see the front of the car appear to rise a tiny bit. Handbrake off, add gas, away you go. Practice on safe, traffic free ramps before you go out driving again.
>>17173250
Fuck using the handbrake just release the clutch to the bite point while holding brake pedal and let go of it then start accelerating
Handbrake is inconvenient in most traffic and hills
Good day all. I am looking to buy a chainsaw for some land we are going to be cleaning up. I have never used a saw myself but my intention is to purchase one for the business and hire an experienced feller. I know I can ask the guy with experience what would be a good sized but I know the man is going to say I need something the size of an MS720 which is a hell of a lot of saw and pretty pricey in my country. Also the "professionals" in this country will amaze you with how little they know.
It is going to be primarily 40-50ft coconut trees and a lot of sea almond. Sea almond is pretty soft but older coconut trees can be a bitch to hack through even with a sharp cutlass and a skilled user. It's all open field/jungle so we can fell everything from the ground. I am thinking of getting a second hand pole pruner to supplement the saw for any trees that are to stay up but need cleaning.
I have been hearing good things about the MS440, which is available here and is Germany built, but the Brazilian built 381 has been catching my eye in size and prize.
Should I got with the 381 or grab the 440? The 440 won't break the bank but the difference in price affords oil and fuel for half the saw's job.
Also I can't go with Husqvarna as it doesn't exist here.
Stihl. 18" bar is going to be pretty useful
I hope a coconut falls on your head while you clearcut the natural paradise you islandnigger

>>17173175
Ever thought of going used? Probably save you half of new...
You didn't mention anything about the diameter of the trees you're going to take down, so just get something with a 20" bar...
If you've never used a chainsaw before, I highly recommend you just just hire a clearing company to do the work...it'll cost more, but you'll live long enough to complain about the costs...

What are your favorite driving shoes?
I nominate the Saucony Jazz Low:
>Lightweight
>Comfy
>Super low ankle clearance
>Squared-off heel
>Flat sole
>One of the ugliest sneakers ever made, with no good colorways. Guaranteed no one else will have them and you can be a special snowflake.
>>17172603
Driving shoe needs a flat bottom. Converse All-Stars or old school Adidas are the only cool choices.
Also, Minnetonka Moccasins for driving land barges down American highways.

I own that engine ama

Who cares, everyone's test driven an ecoboost fiesta
I own a 1990 Civic LX, I've owned an EF in the past, and both are/were automatic. That said, I know how the engine and transmission should be acting.
Simply put, THIS BITCH IS SLOW, like, way slower than it should be. I've clocked 0-40 at full throttle at a time of roughly 18 seconds. The transmission is shifting, and while it's not the smoothest thing in the world, I wouldn't describe it as being distressingly rough, it seems nominal.
This has been an issue since purchase, although it has DEFINITELY improved after replacing several things. Here's what I've done:
-Replaced the ancient nasty fuel filter.
-Replaced the Spark Plugs (this made the biggest difference overall)
-checked the gas tank for rust/bad fuel, drained and refilled (all good)
-hollowed catalytic converter because it was already failing (made a minor difference, stopped the car from producing a violent shake at 5k rpm and hesitating to pass that point).
-replaced all fluids and the oil filter
-replaced O2 Sensor
-reset ECU.
The car does need to have its valve cover/spark plug chamber gaskets replaced, not super badly, but definitely soon, other than that I'm seriously up a wall over this. Anyone have any ideas? It's not throwing me a check engine light or anything BTW.
By the way there's very little speed gained by moving from half to full throttle...
>>17172054
swap a b18 or k20.
I personally don't like the EF sedan but boy oh boy do I have a hard on for EF hatches
>>17172076

I just want the exising engine to work properly. I don't really have the kind of money to buy an engine.

not for everyone, but I love them.
Is it still possible to buy a truly bad new car? One that's indisputably uncompetitive in its class?
Seems these days excellence is the price of admission into the market.

Dodge Journey.
well the modern focus has a garbage auto that grenades it self.
the manuals are fine though so idk if that counts
>>17171542
From what I've heard, the post-facelift one and up are a lot better than the older ones. Mine is at about 20k without any real issues, though I realize that is not much at all.
That said, I'd rather I got a manual for it. Good car otherwise, for what it is.

depends on where you live. If you're in the US, you have to wait until the car is 25 years old to import, otherwise the government will seize it and crush it.
