So I just bought a used Saab 9-5 sportwagon from 2006. I promised my gf it would be spotless, and it surely does look spotless. it has done 129,000 miles, and had it's last oil change at 128,000 miles, this november, where it also had the filter changed, and a small service. Yet when I lifted the bonnet today, the oil smelled like gas. What do? Is it okay?

>>
What does the oil look like. What is you comparison or are you just freaking out because it's the first time you have checked and smelled oil.

Is it a 2.3t or a 2.3T
>>
>>17202576
I've got a Saab 9-5 too. Doesn't mean I can answer your question though.

I guess gas in the oil would indicate bad piston rings? You might be imagining things though.

Get rid of those poverty-tier hubcaps and get some alloys on that thing.

So I just got a real job that will be paying me well for the first time and I think it's time to get a new car to replace my 20-year-old shitbox.

I still want to buy used and am considering a number of option but ideally, I think I want a wagon that is sporty and I'm aiming for $7,000 or lower. It will be my daily so I'm not looking for something crazy. If you have any additions to this list for me to look at, let me know.

Currently I'm looking at the following options:
Saab 9-2x Aero
BMW 540i M-Sport (E39) (I'm aware I probably won't find a wagon at this price.)
Volvo V70r
Outback Sport

americans didn't get a wagon that came with an LS1 unlike us

Is buying used coilovers ever a good idea? I found some used godspeed fully adjustable coilovers on offerup for 550 but the guy is willing to accept 400 for them. Am I making a mistake?

>>
>>17201903
the seller said he only used them for around 8k miles.
>>
>>17201903
seeing as they are usually like 2 grand and in the pictures they look pretty good I'd say go for it that's a steal
>>
>>17201903
Personally I never buy used coilovers, specially from some random forum members or craig list shit.
You do know that GodSpeed is one of cheapest coilovers you can buy new right ?
Koni yellow with good spring combos will out perform any low end coilovers

/o/
I was at C&C this Saturday and I got talking to the owner of pic related.
Pretty cool guy, had a lot of stories. Got to talking about the car and he mentioned he was selling it for 8000

Now I know, 8K is a lot for a 300TE, but this is not a normal 300TE. Back in the mid-90's he had more than $38K of work done to the car which includes:
-5.6 SOHC V8 swap from 560SEL
-Transmission swap from 560SEL
-Shortened driveshaft to account for longer trans
-Differential out of a 124 300D
-Recalibrated speedo to match trans
-Custom exhaust
-Valve work when engine was swapped in (he claims it makes 320 over the stock 300 for that engine)
-Progressive springs in front
-Drilled rotors
-Lorinser wheels
-Euro style headlights
-Debadged trunk lid
-Tinted windows
-Repaint

He says he needed something exciting to tow his boat. It's obviously been taken very good care of. Interior is perfect, outside is near perfect, just a small road rash on the hood. He claims all the functions work perfectly and he has both keys for the car, with the original leather cover. He claims it's never seen snow. It started life in Georgia as a MB service vehicle, then went to South Carolina. He's had the car for over 20 years now, but he never drives it anymore. He started it up for me and it sounded excellent.

I love the 300TE and this is almost exactly the way I would want it done.

Anyhow, it's near perfect. I love it. Seats 7 and tow a boat whilst also able to do (I assume) almost 150mph

What does /o/ think should I pull the trigger? Is there anything about the 560 engines and trannies I should know? I already have a 300CE 124 so I know a fair bit about the platform but I've never had a 5.6. Thoughts? 8000 seems nice for a well-done swap IMO.

I have a 200E but want a 300TE 4matic someday.
Sounds like it's all pre-facelift stuff (apart from the clear front indicator) in it which you should know yourself is the best.
If its in great condition and has been running like that for so long without major issues, i'd say go for it.
>>
W124 is the best car ever build
But one reason for that is the reliability and that it's easy to repair _IF_ something brakes
That said it sounds good, but I'm not sure if the car will run without problems after he did so much to it
>>
>>17201967
>everyone can buy this

Rebuild kit itself is cheap if you are just doing, bearings and snychros, 200-300 for a decent kit

cheaper to get a used t56 if your engine is compatible

If you cant rebuild yourself (its not easy) its not cheap

Lmao m8.
Netherlandistan here. A1, A3/4/5 are all driven by either blonde sloots, or insecure men who try to race me on my bike. A6, especially the allroad quattro are owned by total dadbro's. A7/8 are meh. Q2/3/5/7 are by definition owned by ill-mannered brutes. TT RS a cute and the R8 is a budget less awesome huracan. The SMG R8 a shit.

How would I go about priming myself to drive on the left side of the road, say if I was going to visit such a country?

I would suspect it would be difficult since driving on the right side is thoroughly internalized.

Why will rally drivers often handbrake turn on asphalt?

It makes sense on a loose surface, but since circuit cars don't handbrake turn (as it's the slowest way of going through a hairpin). Why do rally drivers do it?
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
It's a different type of a car that requires a different kind of driving.

or; rally drivers have no idea what the fuck they are doing and are all just chavs and stoners who played way too much forza/wrc rally championship on a playstation 2 the day they recovered from a rave where they drank too much vodka redbull & ate m&ms
>>
>>17201395
Awd, they can instantly face the direction they want to go and have the power to launch straight after
>>
they don't do it in f1 and endurance racing because of the type of cars they're running
to put it into perspective, bike racing slides the rear a lot on corner exit
in the case of rally cars they have enough power that they can afford to slide for a while to have better exit speed
