Literally the worst
i've settled into getting most of my news from reuters and financial times, then i spin off into journal of foreign affairs, london book review, the intercept, and wikileaks. I've yet to find a good daily chinese paper in english nor a german one.
Reason being I like to get news from these different countries as they have different interests and spins on the same story. I find that helpful in determining biases and interests.

Well I can't recommend anything you can read, but I just became aware of RonPaulLibertyReport on youtube.
They cover a lot of important governmental, political, and economic news and Ron Paul is pretty much the Captain Picard of politics.

The problem with Chinese papers is that any paper not overtly pro-government will get severely punished for reporting things either in error, or in any way the government deems damaging to the party. So nobody that wants to do actual journalism is willing to set up shop within the mainland because it's just too much of a pain in the ass. SCMP might be your best bet, it's Hong Kong based, but even that is getting bought by a mainland billionaire and who knows how he'll run it.
democracynow! is underfunded and poorly presented but maybe the most honest feed with the most important stories.
