http://www.businessinsider.com/european-diplomats-trump-laughing-stock-obsessed-with-obama-2017-8

>Foreign diplomats hold a less-than-flattering view of President Donald Trump, according to a BuzzFeed report published on Wednesday.

>Top-ranking European officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told BuzzFeed that their chief concerns were Trump's unpredictable Twitter use and his erratic behavior.

>Among other things, they also described the president as "something of a laughing stock" at international gatherings. As one official described it to BuzzFeed, diplomats consider his vocabulary to be limited to so few words and phrases that they play a type of "word bingo" whenever he speaks.

>"Everything is 'great'; 'very, very great', 'amazing'," one diplomat told BuzzFeed.

>Trump's distinctive speaking style has been widely imitated, most notably by actor Alec Baldwin, who often parodies the president on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

>While mimicking Trump, Baldwin often incorporates words the president favors into his routines, like "tremendous," "amazing," and "incredible."

>The diplomats' views of Trump reflect the opinions of European citizens, 79% of whom said in a Pew Research Center poll released in June that they have "no confidence" in the new US president.

>European diplomats also told BuzzFeed that they think Trump's foreign policy doctrine is driven primarily "an obsession" with undoing former President Barack Obama's initiatives.

>"It's his only real position," one official said. "He will ask: 'Did Obama approve this?' And if the answer is affirmative, he will say: 'We don't.'"

>The official added: "He won't even want to listen to the arguments or have a debate. He is obsessed with Obama."

https://news.vice.com/story/trump-folder-positive-news-white-house

>Twice a day since the beginning of the Trump administration, a special folder is prepared for the president. The first document is prepared around 9:30 a.m. and the follow-up, around 4:30 p.m. Former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and former Press Secretary Sean Spicer both wanted the privilege of delivering the 20-to-25-page packet to President Trump personally, White House sources say.

>These sensitive papers, described to VICE News by three current and former White House officials, don’t contain top-secret intelligence or updates on legislative initiatives. Instead, the folders are filled with screenshots of positive cable news chyrons (those lower-third headlines and crawls), admiring tweets, transcripts of fawning TV interviews, praise-filled news stories, and sometimes just pictures of Trump on TV looking powerful.

>One White House official said the only feedback the White House communications shop, which prepares the folder, has ever gotten in all these months is: “It needs to be more fucking positive.” That’s why some in the White House ruefully refer to the packet as “the propaganda document.”

Duterte Meets Tillerson: ‘I Am Your Humble Friend’

(CNN)US Secretary of State Nominee Rex Tillerson says that the country will preserve its "longstanding friendship" with the Philippines, despite the violent anti-drug campaign of leader Rodrigo Duterte.

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/11/politics/tillerson-philippines-duterte/index.html

Despite the surge in violence, Duterte is popular in the Philippines, with approval ratings over 70% reported at the end of last month.
On Wednesday, he again vowed to diplomats that he would continue to end drugs, corruption, and criminality as part of a "sacred" promise, according to CNN Philippines.
Duterte has said he will not stop the crackdown until every last drug-related drug criminal is dead.

>Google employees are up in arms after a senior engineer at the company penned an anti-diversity manifesto that has spread through the company like wildfire.

>The manifesto criticizes company initiatives aimed at increasing gender and racial diversity and argues that Google should instead focus on "ideological diversity," according to a report by Vice's Motherboard, which first reported the news late on Friday. The 10-page treatise also claims that biological difference between men and women are responsible for the underrepresentation of women in the tech industry.

>"We need to stop assuming that gender gaps imply sexism," reads the document, a copy of which was obtained by Gizmodo

Literally everything he has said is right, and left wing retards are frothing and foaming because it exposes their internal inconsistencies and hostilities to anyone who isn't them.

He sounds like a pussy who already has one foot out the door and fell more the meme that hiring for diversity actually changes anything. >New Report Says There Was “No Russian Hack” of DNC Computers – It Was a “Leak”
Former NSA experts say it wasn’t a hack at all, but a leak—an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system.

There was no hack of the Democratic National Committee’s system on July 5 last year—not by the Russians, not by anyone else. Hard science now demonstrates it was a leak—a download executed locally with a memory key or a similarly portable data-storage device. In short, it was an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system. This casts serious doubt on the initial “hack,” as alleged, that led to the very consequential publication of a large store of documents on WikiLeaks last summer.

Forensic investigations of documents made public two weeks prior to the July 5 leak by the person or entity known as Guccifer 2.0 show that they were fraudulent: Before Guccifer posted them they were adulterated by cutting and pasting them into a blank template that had Russian as its default language. Guccifer took responsibility on June 15 for an intrusion the DNC reported on June 14 and professed to be a WikiLeaks source—claims essential to the official narrative implicating Russia in what was soon cast as an extensive hacking operation. To put the point simply, forensic science now devastates this narrative.

BERLIN (AP) -- An artist tired of seeing hateful tweets ignored by Twitter has managed to get the social network to remove or hide some of them - by spray-painting the offending posts in front of the company's German headquarters.

Shahak Shapira said he reported some 300 tweets containing possible illegal content to Twitter over a period of about six months but the social networking site ignored him. This occurred at a time when Twitter was arguing against tough new legislation in Germany, insisting it was already taking sufficient measures against hate speech.

Shapira said he painted almost 30 of the offending tweets on the street in front of Twitter's Hamburg offices Friday because "flagging things clearly wasn't enough."

"I had to spray it on the ground," he told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Wednesday.

The Israeli-born artist said he never got any kind of direct response from Twitter, either before or after the stunt.

But a video of it received over 100,000 views in 48 hours and clearly got the company's attention. By Wednesday, Twitter had deleted three tweets, suspended four accounts and withheld another seven accounts in Germany.
50 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Fifteen other tweets, including some containing anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim and anti-black comments, were still online.

Shapira said he doesn't advocate mass censorship, but wants Twitter to take the issue of online abuse seriously. A study commissioned by the German government found that Twitter lagged behind other social networks such as Facebook and YouTube in responding to complaints about hate speech.

"It would be nice if Twitter had reacted," said Shapira, whose previous work includes questioning the way young people confront the Holocaust. "What I want is that these flagged posts are reviewed the way Facebook does. What Facebook does isn't perfect, but at least they are making an effort."

Under pressure after Germany passed a law last month that could see social networks fined up to 50 million euros ($58.6 million) if they fail to swiftly remove illegal content, Facebook announced plans this week for a second office in Germany to review posts for illegal content. Free speech advocates have criticized the law, saying social networks may err on the side of censorship to avoid hefty fines.

Twitter refused to publicly comment on the stunt after first being contacted by the AP about it on Monday. Instead, the company cited its guidelines which include a ban on promoting "violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity."

Among the spray-painted tweets that remain online is one directed at Shapira from a user who references the artist's Jewish identity and expresses hope that he should bump into a group of criminals on a dark evening.

A bit hypocritical, wouldn't you say?

In a statement that has been buried by the rest of Trump's barrage of soundbites today, including the ongoing back on forth verbal war on North Korea, as well as Mueller, Manafort and McConnell, during his second meeting with reporters at his golf complex in Bedminster, President Trump said something which could push his war with the intel community and the "deep state" into uncharted territory.

In his first public comment on the recent decision by the Kremlin to seize two US compounds and kick out 755 US diplomats in retaliation for a similar move by Obama in December, Trump said "I want to thank" Russian President Vladimir Putin for ousting hundreds of US embassy employees "because we're trying to cut down our payroll."

Modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK is "far more prevalent than previously thought," the National Crime Agency has said.

The NCA said there were more than 300 live policing operations currently, with cases affecting "every large town and city in the country".

The agency estimated that there were tens of thousands of victims.

It said previous estimates of 10,000-13,000 victims in the UK were found to be the "tip of the iceberg".

"The more we look, the more we find," the NCA's vulnerabilities director Will Kerr said.

Mr Kerr said he had been shocked by what he had seen during this year's intensive efforts to break up gangs, with almost every major operation triggering even more investigations.

He warned that trafficking into modern slavery was now so widespread that ordinary people would be unwittingly coming into contact with victims every day.
'Recognise concerns'

The NCA said the growth in modern slavery was being driven by international gangs increasingly recognising the amount of money they could make by controlling people within a huge range of economic sectors, rather than just dealing drugs.

It warned that the key sectors for slavery now included food processing, fishing, agriculture, construction, domestic and care workers and car washes.

Modern slaves in the UK, often said to be hiding in plain sight, are working in nail bars, construction sites, brothels, cannabis farms and in agriculture.

Traffickers are using the internet to lure their victims with hollow promises of jobs, education and even love.

Albania, Nigeria, Vietnam, Romania and Poland are the most likely countries of origin, but some victims are from the UK itself.

There is no typical victim. They can be men, women or children of all ages but it is normally more prevalent among the most vulnerable, minorities or socially-excluded groups.

Many believe they are escaping poverty, limited opportunities at home, a lack of education, unstable social and political conditions or war. But their slave masters are usually out to make financial gain.

Sexual exploitation is the most common form of modern slavery reported in the UK, followed by labour exploitation, forced criminal exploitation and domestic servitude.

It comes a day after the US said its diplomats in Havana were experiencing strange physical symptoms.

Reports suggest the envoys could have been targeted by a covert sonic device that causes hearing loss.

Havana denies the allegation, but the US has removed two Cuban diplomats from Washington DC in retaliation.

"Cuba has never, nor would ever, allow the Cuban territory to be used for any kind of action against accredited diplomats or their families," Cuba's foreign ministry said.

The Associated Press reported that a US investigation determined that the American diplomats' hearing loss could have been linked to sonic devices which emit inaudible sound waves that can cause deafness.

US officials, speaking to the agency anonymously, said investigations had determined devices had been deployed either inside or outside diplomats' homes.

Investigators are also considering the possibility that a third country, such as Russia, was behind the incidents, officials familiar with the inquiry told AP.

If true, the use of sonic devices to cause harm to diplomats would be unprecedented.

An enterprising couple from the South Bay was just able to purchase a neighborhood street from an online auction because of an accounting error, The San Francisco Chronicle reports. Now the neighborhood is worried about the ways the couple might try to cash in on the purchase.

The couple, Tina Lam and Michael Cheng, who run real estate firm Archers Capital, bought Presidio Terrace, a one-block oval street just northwest of downtown San Francisco. It is surrounded by multimillion dollar mansions (here’s the Google Street View), and up until 1948, it was racially segregated. That is, a few decades ago, Tina and Michael couldn’t buy a house on Presidio Terrace. Now they own it, and they might start charging residents for parking, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The reason why Cheng and Lam were able to pick up the street has to do with an idiotic accounting error involving a cheap annual tax bill, as the local paper reports:

>The couple’s purchase appears to be the culmination of a comedy of errors involving a $14-a-year property tax bill that the homeowners association failed to pay for three decades. It’s something that the owners of all 181 private streets in San Francisco are obliged to do.

The attorney for the homeowners association says the reason why the bill hadn’t been paid was because, since the 1980s, it had been mailed to the address of the wrong accountant.

The result of decades worth of the city sending bills to the wrong address tallied up to $994 worth of unpaid taxes, fees and interest, which San Francisco decided to try to get back by putting the street and its sidewalks up for auction about two years ago.

Cheng, a real estate investor, and his wife were looking for opportunities at the time, saw the street for sale, and jumped on it, dropping $90,100 on the property.

The residents were pissed, and petitioned the Board of Supervisors to nullify the sale. One resident explained to The San Francisco Chronicle the shock that they, the city’s wealthy, could be so rudely taken advantage of:

>I was shocked to learn this could happen, and am deeply troubled that anyone would choose to take advantage of the situation and buy our street and sidewalks.

How dare they, indeed. But Cheng could make cash on this, saying of the 120 parking spots on the street “We could charge a reasonable rent on it.” The San Francisco Chronicle mentions that the couple wouldn’t sell spots solely to residents of the neighborhood, saying:

>And if the Presidio Terrace residents aren’t interested in paying for parking privileges, perhaps some of their neighbors outside the gates — in a city where parking is at a premium — would be.

Well played.

I called up Michael Cheng, and he told me over our brief conversation that he and his wife were just looking to buy any land in San Francisco. After looking at 40 parcels, he wound up with Presidio Terrace. And while, right now, he has no immediate plans to sell the street (he says he’s just looking to “understand the parcel”), he did say charging for parking “could be an option.”

It’s no surprise that residents are pissed that they might have to pay for parking on the private street just outside of their homes. But at the same time, keep your damn mailing address up to date—this is like, the most pathetic financial error ever, right up there with forgetting to update an autopay after a credit card expires.

These are the basics, people.

Correction: This story has been updated to clarify that the issue was with the homeowners association’s accountant’s mailing address, not the city’s.
>>
>$994 worth of unpaid taxes
would $1000 really have fixed enough of the roads? Also why would the city sell a road if they're missing just $1000?
Hopefully the private ownership will keep better care of it.
>>
>>166642
>would $1000 really have fixed enough of the roads?
It's not enough to maintain he roads, the city uses tax dollars for maintaining that. The city auctioned the property because the residens missed too many payments. Maybe private owners will take better care maybe they'll just set prices insufferably high for their own benefit. It's just funny that privatization is so reflexively feared when it happens to public property that the rich depend on and won't own themselves.

Students will be able to earn three credits to explore “forms of activism used to counter weightism perpetuated throughout various societal institutions”
“My course now frames body image disturbances more as a function of oppressive societal structures than of individual pathology"

http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9570

Oregon State University will offer a spring course on “fat studies” in order to teach students how “weight-based oppression” is a “social justice issue.”
According to a syllabus for the course obtained by Campus Reform, students will examine “body weight, shape, and size as an area of human difference subject to privilege and discrimination that intersects with other systems of oppression based on gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and ability.”
"The field of fat studies has undergone tremendous growth in recent years." Tweet This
The course will be taught by Professor Patti Lou-Watkins, who has written extensively on “body image disorders, particularly as they relate to weight bias and physical activity” in academic journals and books.
In a 2013 article in European Health Psychologist, for instance, Lou-Watkins argues that the growing “war on obesity” has actually caused more harm than good, saying many who attempt to lose weight suffer psychological consequences.
“Indeed, as the ‘War on Obesity’ has escalated, so has weight-based bias and discrimination,” Lou-Watkins adds, noting that “weight bias is particularly evident among healthcare professionals, compromising the well-being of their patients.”

First Ever Female Navy SEAL Candidate Quits Officer SEAL Screening Course Days after Starting

On Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 the first female to gain entry to the SEAL Officer Assessment & Selection (SOAS) program voluntarily quit. The three-week course began Monday, July 24th, 2017 in San Diego, California home of the Navy SEAL training base, and by Wednesday it was all over for this candidate. Making history, in the summer of 2017 the US Navy accepted its first female officer candidate into the Naval Special Warfare officer screening pipeline called the SEAL Officer Assessment & Selection program, which is a very early stage screening process designed specifically for SEAL officer candidates.

Diversity is power. Diversity of thought, which is often linked to diversity of background, can make groups stronger. As a leader, if you are always surrounded by people who think similarly to you, you are failing. One way to get more value-adding diversity in your civilian organization is to hire more veterans who bring unique skills and perspectives that are of tremendous worth to civilian companies. But diversity should not be given more value than it brings. Diversity for diversity’s sake, loses sight of the goal of improvement. In order for organizations to achieve greater success, the goal should always be about becoming better, and not simply adopting programs and methods. Programs and methods are tools, not goals. You can’t build a house without a hammer, but buying a hammer does not mean you will build a house.

A few simple stickers on road signs could confuse driverless cars and cause accidents, research has found.

A team of scientists from the University of Washington, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Stony Brook University, and University of California Berkeley tampered with several signs and revealed the autonomous tech was fooled every time in some experiments.

Stop signs were mistaken for 45 mph speed limits and turn right signs were interpreted as stop instructions.

Love/Hate graffiti was added to stop signs and caused the driverless cars to misread the instructions 73 percent of the time.

And randomly placed stickers confused the car in every test with the technology believing the stop signs were informing it of a 45 mph speed limit.

In a real-world scenario this could’ve caused the car to plow on across junctions.
