Riding on my bike
Underwear too tight
I know that they can see my balls, but I don't even fight
The feeling that I know, cause on these wheels I flow
Autistically I'm beaming as I riding down the road
Trains they changed the game, my god they take the fame, strong enough that only engineers know how to tame
Next we got the jets, I dontevenfret, the sound of all these badass planes really make me wet
Now ill leave just a train, run from all this pain, I'll think about mistakes while I seperate my brain

ITT: We discuss which is the best tram/streetcar/LRT system.

Can be 1st gen or 2nd gen, but it has to be at-grade if it has full ROW (as in no system that complete grade separation or absolute priority at crossings like it's a train).

Can be small systems or large system, as long as they fulfill their purpose in the best possible way. Explain why you think it's THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST

I'll cast my vote for Zurich. Zurich's trams are pure win.

>street-running 1st gen
>tracks are marked as exclusive tram(/bus)-lanes except a few short sections on smaller streets, so they don't ever get stuck in traffic
>priority at traffic lights, almost never stops for red lights except at busy tram intersections
>covers all the main lines, supplemented by bus and trolleybus for secondary lines
>very frequent, extremely punctual
>has recently been extended far into the burbs for new urbanization with full ROW in that part
>said extension includes a line that reaches the airport
>there's an interurban line which runs on streetcar trackage within the city and then runs on grade-separated ROW, it's numbered as an S-Bahn (suburban train) even though it runs on street tracks
>keeps historic trams that can operate on the network, sometimes they run them in a circular line around the center at christmas time just for shits and giggles and free of charge
>literally the most awesome tram system ever

beat that fgts

What's 1st/2nd gen?

The one in New Orleans because it's the oldest street railway in the world that's still operating (first line built 1835).

Wow, good thread, really makes me think. I'd also include one important factor and that's the price of the ride. Swiss systems are great indeed but you make you pay a lot.
For me it might be Dresden, they got really dense and fast tram system serving the whole city. But I have to say I'd like to see more separated tracks in there and some connectivity to rail network. Stuttgart has also pretty impressive light rail system. Oh and Brussels premetro is pretty unique but i never been there so i can't say.
This is hard question, really. But I think that we already know at least the region where to look at aka Germany and surrounding countries

Have any of you hooked up with or dated someone you met on an airplane, ship, train, bus, etc.?

In my experience getting sat next to an attractive member of the opposite sex on a plane is a crapshoot, and it seems like getting something to happen is infinitesimally small.

What do you guys think about this?

Length 423ft
Diameter 105ft
Height 150ft
Speed 70mph (est.)
Volume 250, 000cft

>The idea was that the military version be produced first, then a commercial varient, the Skyship 5000 be constructed. The Skyship 5000 was planned to have a 140 seater twin deck gondola.

>Inital specifications were of course to change as with all plans, the contract being for the largest non rigid airship ever produced. An envelope of over 400ft long compared to the 193ft of the Skyship 600. The Volume being of a huge 2,500,000cft (half as much as the R100). The concept was to life a gondola of some 80 ft long comprising of 3 decks, crew accommodation, operations centre and a flight deck. The gondola was made of a modular construction comprising of 3 modules running fore to aft, foreward modules being the pressurised crew compartment, operationals and flight controles. A second module was adapted to carry the fuel and a winching system and the third to house the engines, accessible in flight for servicing. A crew of 15 was to run the ship, mostly to operate the surveillance equipment.

>On 5th June 1987 Westinghouse/Airship Industries were awarded a 170 million dollar contract to design an Operational

>The commercial viability of the Skyship/ Sentinel 5000 never proved as it was the only airship which was planned and almost produced to construction by Airship Industries, yet never flown. From the 10 years which Airship Industries flew their first ship, the company was nearly to the point of producing the first large scale airship which had been seen since the R101.

Bloomington, IN is home to Indiana University and tens of thousands of kids with daddy's money and not a lot of sense. The town is very, very bike friendly and there are many expensive and lightly-used bikes around. Many of these bikes aren't secured with the best locks, and they're left unattended in dark parking lots anyway. Many of these bikes find their way into the hands of individuals who transport them to Indianapolis and from there into... let's call it the secondary market. With the money generated from this endeavour drugs are shipped down to Bloomington for sale to the same IU students who are mourning the loss of their bikes.

>>
>>1028708
No, no, and no, in that order.
All these frame materials have their place. Carbon fiber is not the end-all, be-all of bike frames, they'll always be more expensive and a harder material to work with. Steel and aluminum are easier to fabricate with, and more recent developments in manufacturing techniques have improved their ride characteristics significantly. Titanium has a particular mix of stiffness and lightness that isn't quite like any of the above. All the above have different ride qualities and characteristics. You won't see any of them completely disappear anytime soon.

You live in wierd world man

Also he got fired cause the management didn't like his crude behavior and the fact that he didn't want to work on the diesel locomotives there since he's a steam guy. And also that the railroad put more money into a new building that isn't as profitable as the steam program. Their main reason is that the management doesn't think that steam is profitable and since their target is children and mothers, they think they're stupid and would pay regardless cause any monkey could pull a train. They're going in the same direction as Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad. Honestly, they should've invested more into the steam program.

When I was going to school, nothing would make me happier than when I would accidentally end up on the Christmas train.

This isn't a good pic, but PATCO has a lot of woodgrain and everything is that 70s puke green.
It paired so well with the silver tinsel and the fake snow frosting they spray on the windows; like a rolling shop window display.

Make fun of their puns one more time, OP, I'll give ya a what for.

Are you in the USA by any chance?

Some years ago (I think it was between 2000 and 2005 or so?) the US changed a law that said that railroad owners could get tax credit for "upgrading rail lines".
That doesn't sound so bad, but it was really a loophole law.

China was in a massive building boom and was driving up the prices for scrap steel worldwide. The change in the US law meant that railroad owners could tear up unused tracks and sell the metal to China as scrap and not pay full/normal taxes on the income.

Not surprisingly,,,,, the law didn't say that they had to build NEW lines. But 'tearing up the old line' is apparently the first step in "upgrading a line", so it qualified.
Lots of older lightly-used US rail lines got torn up and are now gone. The right-of-ways are still there, but all the rails are gone.

Just a few years later (-oddly enough?-) US railroad companies began to have problems with...... where to park idle rail cars.
