Is anyone else obsessed with cruisers, even low quality ones like pic related? I have this sudden urge to buy another grandpa bike for cargo. I might want to buy a nicer cruiser if anything happens to mine (doubtful, because they last forever as long as you aren't doing Repack runs too often).

Imagine that frame with that double top tube supporting a bakfiet front rack
>>1041929
Like this? This is $179, kind of expensive for a Walmart bike
I've wanted a nice 3 speed, hub geared cruiser for a while.
Last one just hit limit, winter is closing in folks

got hit by a car and my specialized allez sprint expert is kill
was riding in the bike lane, suv just took a right turn right infront of me and i slammed into the side of it, bounced off it onto the pavement. they didnt speed off and i got the insurance info, its on tape, hopefully everything will work out but that never seems to happen
always the worst because it means i cant ride anymore

Someone threw out their fluid trainer 1, just got a new skewer for my bike, trainer works great!
I live in Brooklyn and I currently walk 3 miles to work each way. Would it be worth getting pic related? There are no bike paths, just small city streets, except for a very short stretch.
Is walking 3 miles really such a torture?
>>1046238
It's not but I would rather spend 30 mins for commute, not 1h.
>>1046237
There are roads right? If so then you can still use a bike.
So now that discs on road bikes is becoming a faultering meme, has anyone used these direct mount brakes before?
They seem to be plan B for manufacturers to cram new required tech down peoples throats
any advantages?
>>1046275
>any advantages?
Of course there are technical advantages, but they're not that significant. They should be able to be lighter and possibly stiffer and they give a bit of freedom in frame and fork design as you no longer need to accommodate the through hole above the tyre (that frame in the photo has no cross bridge for example).
But yeah, it's all irrelevant because disc brake master race.
>>1046275
Two weeks ago I purchased a bike with direct mount brakes. They are really good, but the one near the bottom bracket gets really dirty and probably needs to be cleaned a lot. I'm kindra retrogrouch and didn't like the idea of that ´´new tech´´ but the bike was extremely good and cheap I had to buy it.
As far I know the advantages are the aero ones which obviously doesn't matter on the real world, and a better braking power. I haven't noticed any problems with braking for the moment, so maybe it's true. I have read that the rear brake on that position isn't very efficient, but that's the rear brake and usually you brake with the front one or both at the same time.
Disk brakes will be on 90% road bikes in a few years. Only piece of crap supermarket bikes and tryhard hipsters use anything else.
I just need to get from Point A to Point B

And how long dose that normally take?
Walk.

Pick it up from the wearhouse, frame is in a box on aisle 15 bin 3. Don't forget drivetrain in bin 6, wheels in bin 7, and everything in bin 22.
Take it home, assemble the wheels from the hubs up. Use my fregaaten pump on the tires.
Little tool box had a BB installation tool, headset cup press, cone and spoke wrenches.
Put headset in backwards, front wheel on the back and back to front, couldn't find the grip bag, wheels out of true because Ikea didn't include a truing stand.
Worth every penny
WHAT THE FUCK, $1,084.99 ????

I like buses, and I want to take photos of them. But I don't want to be seen as a bus spotter because of the strange looks from people and even drivers. I don't know what to do at this point. It's painful having a hobby which is so looked down at.

>It's painful having a hobby which is so looked down at.
I know what you mean.
If you get a decent looking camera people will just think you're a photographer and won't give it a second thought.
I take photos of them as well as trains and planes and I don't care about what people may think
If you carry a bike lock, how do you go about doing it?
>>1042638
it goes in the slot on the side of the rack with a bungee cord over it to keep it from bouncing around
What kind of train is the train in Zootopia based off of?
>>1027748
Part of that is definitely the old California Zephyr trains and the front half looks vaguely like a Bombardier Regina or any of its derivatives/copies.
Even fucking cartoon animals have better trains than the Land of the Free

sup /n/, just wondering for those of you that actually take road cycling seriously enough to analyse statistics, what's your most impressive power output.
Now I don't have a powermeter bc I can't be fucked spending money on new cranks, but I use Strava's inbuilt power estimator.
This is my most impressive climb ever, it was like 3 days before a 2 day tour and I think I averaged 4.85w/kg over ~20 minutes.
Anyway, what kind of power can you guys hold, do you do train using power meters to maintain a stable cadence?
Basically I'm interested in what kinds of power people can maintain and their weights
>>1046019
that's physically impossible
bout tree fiddy
>>1046016
I could maintain about 310 watts for 45 minutes for a few days in october, since then my form started to go downhill fast due to overtraining. I hope to peak again in summer because that week was great.
I dont weigh myself often, before I started riding I weighed 60kg, this summer I weighed 64kg. I am probably over 65kg now. I seem to get heavier quite fast since I started riding a year and a bit ago. Legs getting very big though, I guess its not in my genetics to be a lightweight rider.
Pic related is a short ride I did back then, unfortunately the power meter kept losing signal due to low batteries which reduced the average. You will just have to believe me when I say I kept it firmly around 310 watts the whole way.

desu, I grew up in fear of elevators. Still not comfortable about them and have been known to take the stairwell as much as 18 floors (our highest building) because it was an old rickety thing that made unnatural noises and shakes.
January 2010, I was stuck in 5 separate elevators. FIVE fucking times! Never have before or since. wtf...
Enough about me. Two impressive elevator survival episodes: the lady who survived the 80 floor freefall when the bomber crashed into the Empire State Building; and the last guy from the Windows of the World restaurant on 9/11 who sat alone in his elevator car trapped because of the emergency locks. Later pries open the doors effortlessly when WTC2 collapsed & killed the power and walks outside past firemen standing around doing nothing moments before WTC1 collapses.
The guy who spent 41 hrs trapped in one makes me laugh, but in all honestly I would prob be traumatized. kek..

How do we bring passenger rail back to Tasmania?
>>1042471
Q: Is there any rail activity in Tasmania? Just curious about what kind of freight activity there is.
>>1042490
All I can find out is concrete
Presumably other primary industry goods
And some very limited tourist railways, principally on the west coast where nobody lives
I'm going there for 10 days, looking at how to get around there was a fucking nightmare - coach buses operate two times a week. Thats it. You cannot get around without a car.
So I had to join a tour group
Scored a 1977 Miyata liberty brand new, it is so new the tires still have the mold lines... All for 75 bucks. I am truly blessed. What can you tell me about this beauty? I want to learn all about it.
>corroded spokes
>rust covered BB shell
>grimey drivetrain
b-but the tires are new
>>1045358
>tires are new
40 year old rubber my dude, I wouldn't risk riding on those
>>1045335
This is not new, look at the chainrings. Not bad for $75 but you will have some work to do. Please replace tires, tubes, brake pads and cables if you are planning to ride it.
Also do something about the rust spots.
>>1045376
Actually the tires look brand new.
