Give me one good reason I shouldn't bike on the sidewalk if it is clear of pedestrians
Drivers typically stop past the sidewalk, so if you are booking it you risk getting t-boned, flying over their hood or flying through their side window.
Sidewalks also tend to have those door thingies where unsuspecting surprise passengers on your handlebar come from.
TLDR: You don't belong there.
95% of the adults that ride on the sidewalk are strung out homeless people
Wouldn't we have way better bikes if the UCI didn't ban the Z shape and mandate double diamond?
I don't give a fuck about racing but wouldn't we have cheap mass market Z frames?
Should we hate the UCI?
>>1058958
>Should we hate the UCI?
do you even need to ask
>I don't want to follow rules for competitive professional athletes when I'm out for a sunday ride
So don't
Why are freds so dumb?

this is a dumb thread
If it has become weak or there are cuts THROUGH a load beating part then yes. If it is just the scratched and scores we see in the pictures then it should be fine. Will maybe even reduce risk of theft.
What are some good bike lights for my bike? a front light, specifically. I'm looking for something preferably kind of aero, and easy to pop on and off (people love stealing shit like that around here). Any suggestions?
>>1057260
The Light & Motion Urban series has some really good front lights. Not really aero though.
>worries about stealing
>worries about aero
Are you cosplaying as lance armstrong? The aero on your fucking lights? You're obviously carrying around a lock and a bunch of other non-aero shit, aren't you? You're on gatorskins or something, and not turbo cottons, yes?
Just get something that doesn't blind people, is waterproof, and puts enough light on the road. Busch & Mueller battery powered Ixon IQ Premium for instance. It is removable.
>>1057260
I've decided to invest a couple of bucks and go for Fortified bike lights (https://fortifiedbike.com/products/aviator-afterburner-combo-pack?variant=3851462853).
Combo Pack is 69$ and plenty bright. Battery is USB chargable and good for 4-6 hours. Since I got them about 1 year ago my lights haven't been stolen. Before that I'd need a new light every couple of weeks.
Have any of you seen, rode behind or know of the GWR 56XXs? (This photo is of the Kent and East Sussex Railway based 56XX number GWR 6619 at Bodiam station)

I grabbed it from google image search but I'm pretty sure it is.
This is probably going to rub some people the wrong way, but does anyone else here not give a fuck about cyclists? I literally have no respect for them.
Think about it. You're on a 12 pound bike with no protection, weaving in and out of your lane, obstructing traffic and gesturing at drivers who overtake you. Meanwhile, they're in 4000 pound machines that are designed to protect the occupant at the direct expense of whatever they hit. If a car and a bicycle collide, there's no question who's getting the worst of it.
But watching how these retards behave, you could be forgiven for thinking its the exact opposite. The most arrogant fucking pricks I have ever seen are cyclists, especially the ones who get all kitted up to ride their shit down major highways.
When I'm driving, I expect any pedestrian or cyclist to have enough common sense to stay out of my way, for the same reason a rabbit should have enough sense to get out of the way of a buffalo.
For what it's worth, I'm a cyclist too. Been riding for the last three years. And when I ride my bike, I make sure to get out of the way of cars, because I'm not a fucking idiot. But even then I have no respect for other cyclists and whatever arbitrary 'rules' they think exist. It makes me laugh every time some autist on his carbon fiber shit-tourer has a hissy fit because I'm in his non-existent lane facing the wrong way or passed him without signalling. Like seriously man, what are you going to do? By the time you get those gay little shoes unclipped to fight me I'll be five blocks away laughing.
By all means, have fun on your bikes. Just don't act like it entitles you to anything.
I hate the notion of cyclists as a unified group, but that's cognitive bias for you. Most people just see all cyclists as two wheeled /n/iggas.
>>1057182
that's probably because so many of them act like absolute nigs
You can be a prick behind the wheel, but when you're sitting on a piece of aluminium wearing a plastic helmet like a special boy then I suggest you tone down the assholery, because you might get fucked up
>>1057180
I hate being in London. I hate having to cross the road in London; because you have to check in both directions three times; inside for cyclists, traffic, outside for cyclists, and then do the same for the opposite side of the road. They can be literally anywhere. I hate taking a taxi in London; the number of times I've seen a cyclist ride through a red light directly in front of a taxi turning right (and 50% of the time, gesticulate at the taxi as though it's the one in the wrong) it puts my hearts in my mouth every time. I hate walking in London, where every time I watch a cyclist ride up along the inside of a long wheelbase vehical, apparently oblivious to the dangers.
Cyclists get themselves killed because they genuinely don't believe they are the slowest moving, smallest and most invisible traffic on the roads. The genuinely seem to believe that every other road user should have RADAR and precognition to deal with their seemingly random and dangerous maneuvers. It defies explanation.
Completely new to bikes, I only have this Old one
Thoughts?
It's a nice bike
You should properly adjust saddle height, it's most likely way too low.
Also your front valve is crooked
Also you should give the drivetrain a good wash and lube
Needs slicks
Get rid of the shitty reflectors
Get rid of the dork disk
Put some tires that don't suck on there
New grips, new saddle
Front and rear lights (Cygolites have good bang for buck)
Better pedals (no need to go crazy, maybe some VP Vice)
Amtrak long-distance, TIGER, and New Starts funding is being cut.

Waste of money.
If Amtrak was worth something of value it wouldn't need to be supported by the government. That's a fucking fact.
>>1056418
honestly, as a libertarian, i wish trump would just cut as much as they would let him. this cut doesn't bother me. at the same time, trump is redirecting the money to other things that the government shouldn't be involved with.
so nothing's really changed.

I need help buying replacement headset bearings.
I have an 09 Marin Mount Vision 5.6 with notchy bearings. (1 1/8 headset)
How do I know what specific size or numbers am I looking for when buying replacements?
From what I can tell is it has a TH-888 headset? There is very little I can find about TH-888.
>>1059484
>>>/bqg/
it's either going to be an intergral or intergrated.
>>1059484
Is it actually a 2009, or a 2010 like in the photo you posted? If it's a 2009 it has an old style external headset, sometime called traditional. If it's a 2010 it has an integral headset, sometimes called semi integrated, that still has cups that press into the frame that the bearings then sit in.
First and second images in this post respectively >>1059506
just google the model#- the whole headset with bearings is at amazon and jensen for under $12
