you ride cage flats in WHITE TRAINERS you fuckin fred jr.
Paying registration would be a net positive for cyclists who train on or commute by road. As would mandatory training regarding safe road use.

This
I take a cross country Amtrak train tonight. It's 3 days long. What am I in for?
3 days of sitting.
I'm doing a cross country Amtrak in three weeks. I plan on packing as much food as I can so I don't have to eat at the dining cart as much.
I'm going from DC to Seattle, what about you?
>>1067336
You're going to stop a lot for freight trains passing by.
This movie came out 5 years ago poking fun of road bikes/road bike riders
Still holds true in San Diego today. I see so many of those stone brewing arrogant bastard ale jerseys on the beach every weekend.
Usually by old men on $3000+ carbon/ultegra or higher equipped bikes doing like 10 mph
Usually some asshole that drove his Porsche to the beach to show off his cervelo
You seem to be jelly.
When I'm that age I'll probably be making 3x what I'm making now and my retirement investments will have appreciated to the point where I won't give a shit about dropping a few bucks on a state-of-the-art crabbon bike with which to trigger jealous poor youngsters. I'm only in my 30s and already I love how mad people get because I have bike stuff I don't "need" because all you "need" is a busted 30 year old road bike with cracked brake housing and a fucking milk crate lashed to the upside down handlebars
10/10 approve and endorse
what movie OP?
Toughts on Tokyobike?
I'm looking into buying my first bike, which I plan to use for commuting.
The Tokyobike looks effay, but is it good?
frame material is surprisingly fine. everything else seems pretty low tier or unbranded. just get an equivalent bike from bikesdirect with a named groupset for the same price or cheaper.
There is literally no reason to use 650b wheels, caliper brakes and 1 inch steerers in this day and age, other than clearing out warehouses of outdated frames and components and marking them up for clueless hipsters.
>$875 26" single speed from unspecified cromo with a Brooks on top
for what why
>>1071118
b-but it looks like a real authentic practical city bike?! all those gears are confusing, what do you think I am lance armstrong? go take your gay lycra and your disc brakes back to the race track where it belongs. you can easily go over the bars with a front disc brakes you know. are you trying to get me killed?
So I fucked up my dérailleur after god knows how many miles and thus need a new one.
Had quite a biking and bike fixing hiatus, so it's been forever since I last worked on that part of my bike.
The adjustment I can probably figure out (I heard there is a thing called youtube…), but I'm not quite sure how I can mix and match stuff.
The original one is an old as shit shimano deore XT, but since it is my "I'm-so-rusty-that-you-must-be-really-stupid-to-steal-me beater bike", I dont wan't to buy an expensive one. Can I simply bolt on some Alivio shit and reuse my shifter (assuming it's an 8)? What about other brands, like the pictured SRAM or some random chink shit?
>>1070615
You could get a friction shifter and then use any derailleur that you please. What sort of failure happened to the Deore?
>>1070615
Any Shimano 8-speed rear derailleur will work. SRAM will not work, because SRAM and Shimano rear derailleurs use different shift ratios, meaning that for a given amount of cable pull, the derailleur will move a different amount. Therefore, SRAM rear derailleurs only work with SRAM shifters, and Shimano rear derailleurs only work with Shimano shifters.
While going with the proper speed rear derailleur is often not entirely necessary, it's a good idea for optimal performance (and in some cases, it IS necessary), meaning you need an 8-speed derailleur. These are often marketed as "7/8 speed" meaning they are compatible with both 7-speed and 8-speed drive trains; this is perfectly acceptable.
If you want all the nerdy details, read this (if not, ignore this): http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/
tl;dr your new derailleur must be:
>Shimano
>8-speed
Other details don't matter, just get whatever quality/pricepoint you want
>>1070657
>What sort of failure happened to the Deore?
an age of about 15 years, daily commuter duty with parking outside all the time and a very salty winter. Seems like it finally died, after something bent my chains and I didnt realize until I stepped in with full force. Sad.
Greetings from /o/
I see a lot of bikes and public transport here, why don't you work harder and get a car?
Joke's on you, I have a car and a bicycle.
Working harder is for getting Di2, power meters, carbon wheelsets and Rapha.
>Ruining the fun of driving by constantly doing it at rush-hour, when you're stuck in traffic and worrying about work
Foolishness. My car is for long jaunts to exciting places and late-night synthwave zen sessions.
/an/ here. I have not come here to "work things out" or hear you stupid fucking lance armstrong wannabe's opinions. I'm simply here to warn you. STOP fucking riding 30mph on the goddamn MUP like you're a fucking pro faggot. The MUP is 90% for running, rollerblading, and dog walking, something I do everyday while having to deal with you stupid fucks almost running over my dog. IF YOU EVER FUCKING HURT MY DOG, HA, WELL LETS JUST SAY YOU BETTER JUST KEEP RIDING AND NEVER TURN AROUND, YOU FUCKING GOT THAT? You have 10000 miles of roads, stop being fucking pussy and riding on MY path, fuck heads.
>>1067372
30mph sustained on a path like that would be pretty pro Tbh.
>>1067374
I do 40 without breaking a sweat
>>1067372
Keep your stupid dog on a leash and keep them under control, you fat fuck.
Anyone familiar with Adult Scooters that can recommend one that isn't too much money?
Just ordered this one for 75$ but i'm sure there's a better one for less.
I got this one because i don't want some deep crack or a pebble to trip the scooter. That's actually happened to me when i was younger with the tiny wheeled scooters.
>Why not a skate board
Unfortunately i cannot balance on one
>Why not a bike
Too big
I think if you have under a hundred bucks to spend on transportation, the best bet would be to get some decent shoes or something. Skip everything with wheels at that price point.
>adult scooters
scooters are for children and old people
>too big
what is too big? you or the bike?
So I keep hearing a lot about this railway but nothing ever seems to come of it. What does /n/ think?

also, what a fucking garbage colour scheme. CALIFORNIA HAS RED AND WHITE IN THEIR FLAG

It is literally under construction and they are laying track in the Central Valley.
Not sure if this belongs in /n/, but I'll give it a try.
What do you call this in Japanese? Is there a specific name for these types of signs on railways? The closest I have gotten to was 列車種別選別点灯表示 (れっしゃしゅべつせんべつてんとうひょうじ; Train type light indication) Any Japanese know what they're (officially) called?
>>1070722
Is it a "Signal repeater" or "Repeater"?
>>1070835
So basically a distant signal in US parlance? I'm not the OP but that's what it sounds like to me.
Other one is nearing completion so here's the new BQG
Can anyone point me towards a good commuter tire? currently rolling on some stock 700x40 tires with a lot of tread and a lot of rolling resistance, so i want something that's not going to feel so heavy when im out riding, preferably something that comes in a 28 or so.
is the Conti Ultra Sport II any good?
Ultra sport II is reasonably quick, not particularly heavy, but not terribly puncture resistant. It's a tradeoff you make for a cheap tyre.
I'd personally go for a wider tyre, 32-38, something from near the top of here: http://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/tour-reviews depending on the conditions you ride in. If there are thorns then the standard marathon/GT/plus might be necessary unless you want to spend all day changing tubes.
Narrower tyres are not fundamentally quicker than wider ones, and you lose a lot of suspension.
If you want to blow all the budget something like compass tyres are very quick and light.
>>1068420
I went with Conti Supersport plus, they tout it as a good commuter tire that is "nearly impenetrable" and reviews were positive, from what i saw. so that is good enough for me. worst case scenario i can always return it
>>1068420
I've been super pleased with the Compass tires that I have used - 700Cx35, 700Cx44, and 650Bx48. Most of them are out of stock right now, though :(
Discussion thread for /n/ related anime. Two currently airing this season
Yowamushi Pedal S3 - Monday
Minami Kamakura High School Cycling Club - Friday
No need to create a new thread right after bump limit. This is a slow board.
Never understood the bump limit concept and the need of creating a new thread. I have been using the catalog+filter for searching posts for many years. And many times people got mad because I bumped ´´dead threads´´.
>>1049916
Because using the catalog means you're new
Hi there.
Got a 2013 Sp Tarmac Sport with little upgrades so far (ultegra brakes) on which i am now using a Shimano R500 wheelset that i cant complain about.
Thing is i was considering and upgrade and a friend has offered me his 18 month Mavic Cosmic Elites with nice Michelin tires for 200€.
Is it worth it? Would the difference be noticeable? Really i wanted to find some Ksyriums o something similar... Any options?
That's a pretty good price
I'd buy them and use them for events and during nice weather and keep the R500s as more "beater" type wheels
>>1070758
>Ksyriums
I got these last year, only a small difference from my cheapo shimano rs11 that came on my bike. Really the only thing I noticed is that I can coast a little longer
>>1070758
>Mavic Cosmic Elite
for 200 get them.mang
How do you protect you bike from rain?
I live in a place where it rain a lot, and I live in a place where I have to haul my bike up the stairs to take it inside, so it's a huge pain. I'd much rather be able to lock it outside, but the weather can be bad and I have no good way to protect it from rain. What do people normally do? I thought about using a tarp, but I'd have to tie it down because of the wind, and weather can be unpredictable. Is there a more reliable sort of shelter I could use? Or maybe buy somewhere?
I put mine in my shed.
Some apartment complexes around here have rentable sheds, just big enough for a bike.
I carry my bike down 3 flights of stairs every morning, and up 3 flights every night
At work the elevator is usually working so I use that, but I've been known to use stairs (4 floors up)
I don't have any respect for people who treat their bike like garbage. There is no reason to do that, even if you don't have an expensive bike this is just basic care, like washing your hands after you use the toilet
>>1069901
Lucky fuck! I can't take my bike into work.
Is there any sort of commercial cabin you can attach to a bicycle for when it rains and stuff? Would this be a good idea?
>>1069608
It would be heavy and act as a huge sail in a crosswind.
Just ride a car when it's raining.
>>1069608
google "velomobile"
