Broad Gauge of the world and the old Brunel Broad Gauge from 1838-1892. So let's start a thread about it?

This?
Seems like China want to turm whatever broad gauge network within its reach into standard gauge. First would be Central Asia.
My derailleur hanger is bent on my bike. A new hanger is about $15 + $20 shipping. My LBS will charge about $50-$70 to fix it most likely. And finally, the tool to fix it myself is between $35 for knock off brand and $70 for the park tool brand. I'm kind of torn as to what I should do. Everything is close enough in price that I'm not sure what is the best option.
I'd just get a new hanger. I bet if you shop around a little you can find cheaper shipping than that.
The knock-off one works fine.
Shop around for a new hanger dude.
Anyone know of some bikes that would be good for a college kid to use frequently, about 15 miles per day/five days a week, that doesn't cost a fucking fortune?

A walmart bike
>>1088360

90s rigid mtb from craigslist

I'll start, so I bought that BB thinking it would fit my old mtb and the thing on the mtb is stuck, how can I tell if it will fit?
>>1086471
Un-stick it, remove it and compare it? You bought a new BB, you'll have to get the old one off eventually.
>>1086472
yes, naturally, thanks
i mean if there was a way of measuring it without having to unstick it with tools i dont have? like from the edges? or where the frame ends?
>>1086474
Ah, sure. You could measure shell width (the 68mm measure marked on the box), but for the spindle length (the 113mm measure on the box) you'd have to remove the cranks.
How does this make you feel?
Why yellow line is not extension to orange line?

some how it reminds me reminds me of the rail system the area I lived had once upon a time before it got all taken out in less than 2 years
https://youtu.be/WETlBlWj_oA
MU: Semi-permanently coupled train set
Loco: An independent power car designed to to freely couple to carriages and other train sets, in a flexible operation
Distributed traction EMU: EMUs in general
Concentrated traction EMU: Power cars hauling passenger cars in the train set (Acela, TGV, ICE-1)
Concentrated traction loco-hauled train set: Locos use in general, including push-pull (eg BR Class 43 for Intercity 125 HST)
Distributed traction loco-hauled train set: Distributed power and MU control loco
Is my understanding on the track?
>>1087934
> * Concentrated traction EMU: 1-2 leading/trailing power cars hauling
>>1087934
Not really.
Distributed traction is where the power is delivered to the rails on many/most axles. Cl43 have their traction motors just in the power cars, i.e. concentrated.
>Concentrated traction EMU: Power cars hauling passenger cars in the train set (Acela, TGV, ICE-1)
>Concentrated traction loco-hauled train set: Locos use in general, including push-pull (eg BR Class 43 for Intercity 125 HST)
Don't see that much difference here (aside from electric vs. diesel)
Any mathematicians?
Is it possible to combine two sets of cycling data to find the overall average speed?
For example: if I rode 13 miles at 14.7mph and then 21 miles at 13.9 miles, what would my average be over the 28.6 mile total?
And how do you do it?
Thanks!
I meant 34 mile total, of course.
>>1087898
You just divide total distance by total time.
Time=distance/speed
So for your example it would be
34
______________
13/14.7 + 21/13.9
Giving you an average of 14.2mph
are you retarded?
Neighbor may sell me his Cervelo P1 for cheap. Thing is, I don't do tris. Was wondering what all I would need to turn it into a road racer? I am guessing I'd just need to try to change the geometry.
Handlebars are a given, but what else? Shifters, seat post, fork, stem, etc.?
Is it even worth it?!
I don't know if it's worth it since you didn't say how much he wants for it. But I'd probably just flip it and buy a road bike, if I didn't already have one.
>>1087741
Basically it'd be free but I couldn't re-sell it. We're friends with them blah blah blah
>>1087749
Then I guess you can get away with just putting road drops and brifters on it, then fuck around with the saddle position and maybe stem length. No need to change anything else really, unless your height difference is too dramatic.
I completely ignorant in the world of transportation. Could someone help me out with what I need in a bike?
I'm looking for a healthier option to get me from point a to point b
good space to carry things like pic attached
and something that won't make my unhealthy ass die whilst pedaling. (Good gears or some shit? Idk again i'm 110% ignorant)
>>1084153
Any help with good brands or certain terms for the type of bike that i'm looking for would be great!
look for commuter bikes!
>>1084153
go to a proper bike store and tell them what you're looking for, the kind of riding you'll be doing - they'll point you in the right direction and let you test ride some bikes.
DON"T go to your local discount or big box store and just buy whatever they have on sale.
As above, commuter or hybrid bike is likely what you're after; either of these can be fitted with racks, will have a decent range of gears, be comfortable etc...
1. Post your average sustained speed under neutral conditions. Flat road, no wind, no drafting.
2. Post your bike or legs.
3. Judge others.
Mine's about 18.5 mph
35kmh
No idea, I'm not racing anyone
>>1083697
30kmh
How do you feel about the new five-level stack interchange in Chongqing, China, which is being promoted as one of the most complex in the world?

I think it will soon be known around the world as Noodle Junction.
For the last six years, I have been using OpenTTD to build a working virtual replica of the UK rail network.
Ask me anything.
Also I am writing out all the timetables with the view to actually running full service on the model.
This is an old picture, all the rail infrastructure is in place now.
Neat.
What patches are you using?
>be me
>look for cheap entry level mountain bike in local classifieds
>find a dude selling a reasonably old but sturdy bike for $250
>Read description of the advert
>"Bike frame XL, for men 180 and up"
>mfw 5'7"
>mfw scared to contact buyer and arrange a meet
Oh god manlet feels are the worse when it comes ro biking.
Which size of bikes do you short bros ride?
>>1087589
dude you're 5'7 so you are obviously not XL get a fucking medium 27 or if you are fat a 29. jesus fuck
>>1087596
Why do you have to be such a dick
nobody gives more of a crap about how tall you are than you. Pedal often, be personable, find happiness, you will be fine. Get a bike that fits though, that will help with the happiness part.
kinda pathetic to believe a bike could be worth more than $700, max... anyone who tells your otherwise is ripping you off
But with the crotch rocket the coffin is sold separately.
>>1076991
Sure, I'll take the bait.
You're looking at stuff with pretty low production volumes a lot of the time, so it's not that surprising that prices would be high in some cases. I do agree that a lot of the really high end stuff is a ripoff for what little benefit most people would get.
And as someone who has a couple motorcycles, it's not like a lot of those aren't a total ripoff either.
Bicycle
>top of the line race bike
>marginal gains
>extremely lightweight
>low volumes
Motorcycle
>low end model
>old cheap tech
>heavy
>high volumes
Why does this stale bait keep coming up. You're comparing apples to oranges. The $700 road bike would be much more valid comparison.

looks like a fine ad to me
speaking of tires, I'd like to order a different tire for my Torker. It's 26", so there are a lot of tires available. I think something with colored treads would be neat
