TLOP discussion thread
I'm giving this a light 6. It's pretty generic hip-hop. Not much flavor and the lyrics are pretty whack. the instrumentation is sub-par and general flow of the album seems very weak. The mastering and production on most songs seems janky and rushed. The album cover design is atrocious. It has it's moments but it's nothing special, just average.
is this what you look like
Who /adidas/ here?
I personally actually just own a lot of Puma shit but Nike's always been tacky to me
If I want to listen to absolutely everything by a certain artist in my library including features all I have to do is type their name into the search bar.
It's the same as the other version except with Fade, I edited the names myself.
So, pre-album release people who went to a listening party said one of the songs featured a sample from the movie warrior.
Anyone know which song that was and if it was cut or if just this sample was cut from it?
Does anyone remember that snippet of a song he included at the end of the All Day video premier in the museum?
I can't find footage of it, but it was in a video exactly like this:
It was him sings something like "I lost myself, I lost myself all the time"... Any way, it was a fucking gorgeous piece of music which didnt end up on the album, and I'm really bummed I may never hear it again.
Does anyone know what im talking about?
I really like this album but Fade is way too much of an abrupt end to it. Maybe it'll grow on me over time but eh.
Kind of a shallow track all in all.
Also, no Hov/10
Buying this album three times to support strong black music.
>streak as good as Waves/FML/Real Friends/Wolves
That is a pretty fucking great streak
Obviously I Love Kanye is the best track
>go to restaurant
>waiter says that you get the entree and then your pick of the desserts come for free
>a dessert gets served to you based on the waiter's recommendation
>you don't feel sure if you should consider eating it since it's just a bonus... even if its clearly sitting right there before you... but you didn't pay for it so there's an awkwardness...
I Love Kanye is unquestionably the best song he has ever made
I have this shit on repeat I can't fucking believe how good it is
I even went to the corner store to buy some food and let that shit bump in the whip while I was inside it's fucking flames man
>over Hold My Liquour
>over Devil In a New Dress
>over Real Friends
kind of a mix every kanye album aesthetic, from string arrangements to distorted basslines, soul samples, rough transitions, tracks with kanye's ego raps and a few that are deeply personal and emotional.
also, nice upside down satanic trips
FADE IS THE MOST UNDERRATED TRACK
Listen to Family Business and then Real Friends right after and tell me if that doesn't give you some fucking feels.
HOW TO ORDER TRACKS FOR OPTIMAL LISTENING:
1. Ultra Light Beam
2. Father Stretch My Hands
3. Pt 2
6. Low Lights
8. Freestyle 4
10. No more Parties in LA
13. Real Friends
Consider everything else as either trash or bonus tracks
Sadly enough I think you're right.
I really like Future but I think he should've slowed his roll after DS2.
>there are people on this website of all places that unironically listen to hip hop
ULB, Feedback, FML best
Waves, Real friends Worst
Are you off your rocker nigger? Ultra Light is probably one of the BEST openers in the 2010's, no fucking joke.
the weeknd a shit
For me it has to be "Hold on, hold on, hold on
Wait a second, everybody here, I'm the ghetto Oprah
You know what that mean? You get a fur! You get a fur!
You get a jet! You get a jet! Big booty bitch for you! Woo!"
he literally says on 30 hours that it's a bonus track and by extension every song afterwards is a bonus track, silver surfer intermission is exactly that, a bridge between the main album and the bonus tracks
Facts and Fade are still good and fit the album and they come after wolves. NMPLA is bad and doesn't fit the previous tracks or the ones that come after it. You're shit for brains and should get your fucking ears checked.
Really wanted to like this LP but there's no way around it, its just a huge disappointment. Aside from FSMH, NMPILA and ULB, all the tracks feel extremely drab, uninspired with bland stripped down production. For the first time on a Kanye record I felt like he wasn't even trying to do anything heartfelt, different or interesting, this is just a half baked thrown together mess
not particularly impressed. none of the songs really click with me or seem to have staying power, and autotune is just obnoxious at this point. nothing even comes close to all day, which wasn't kanye's best track to begin with.
Big fan so far, but it feels like the album, I dunno, stutters a bit.
You just get into the flow of it, and then something like Freestyle 4, Silver Surfer Intermission or Facts comes and fucks it up.
Individually most of the tracks are great, but it doesn't have the cohesiveness of MBDTF, and I think it suffers for it.
It's probably reflective of Kanye's current state though, and Yeezus had a similar feel, although TLOP has a more playful feel to it. I get the impression Kanye really enjoyed making this, whereas Yeezys felt a bit like a venting of frustration.
Ultralight Beam is top 5 all time Ye, though. Chance's verse is probably the best of the whole album. Overall probably 8/10
I hate to circle jerk some more but this album is fucking amazing.
Kanye West has done it again. This sounds nothing like any other hip hop album out there.
His pushed the boundaries again. I know its early, but I won't hesitate to compare this to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
I love it.
Who else has redone it with their own tracklist?
Pic related is using SNL Wolves
anyone else thinks that he might aswell just dump the idea of releasing it physically? dunno why but something tells me he might not just bother to do it and make it at the same time a case when well know artist completely dumped the idea of physical record
I like a good chunk of the songs, but I'll be honest, the whole album sounds like a hot mess. Like the songs don't mesh, it sounds like he just added a bunch of random songs last minute and cobbled everything together.
this so much
I love the new album, but damn, MBDTF was lifechangingly good
>Tfw when you'll never get a remixed album version of All Day to get you hyped af for whenever you need that shot to the arm
gonna have my really basic input here, but i think it sounds a bit like a mixtape 2bh pham
i didnt really expect much but yeah, a little underwhelming
I fucking love that switch up at the end of Pt. 2
>How can I find you
Make this album perfect with two additions:
>Put All Day in between 'I Love Kanye' and 'Waves'
>Throw 'Never See me Again' at the end after Fade.
Literally becomes the greatest album ever made.
>I believe in retarded shit and if you disagree, you are edgy and wear a fedora
>yeah that's literally all we could come up with, just roll with it
>mfw I just realized haven't listened to anything of his after BTH
Why the fuck didn't he include I Feel Like That. It's seriously better that 90% of the tracks on here. Would've been GOAT closing track.
>martin shekles threatens to buy album
>/mu/ screams and crys "PLEASE DONT I NEED THIS :'("
>album comes out
>ask for link
>"AHAHAHAHA GET FUCKED NORMIE >:) ONLY I MAY LISTEN TO THE ALBUM >:)"
>he doesn't like Kendrick
>he doesn't love Kendrick
SING ABOUT ME, I'M DYING OF THIRST
>AND IF I DIE BEFORE YOUR ALBUM DROP I HOPE-
But seriously though, Kendrick is fire and good kid M.A.A.D city is damn near perfect
I CANT STOP LISTENING TO DESIIGNER'S VERSE ON PT 2
so what did yall think waves? i like chance but thought the first half of it with the loud as fuck "EH" was annoying
>implying he didn't include all these songs just for stream revenue
i just downloaded this family
i think you can listen to it on tidal with free trial but idk
yeah absolutely love the andre 3000 feature t b h
In general why the fuck did Kanye put the album full of these 2-3 min tracks that go by way too fast to leave an impression. If you're gonna do a 2 min track then at least make the beat a fucking banger.
Listening to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy straight after The Life Of Pablo. Man, the contrast is ridiculous.
Anyone else doing this?
Most improved song upon relistening is Freestyle 4
Who's with me
If you unironically think that it's anything better than 7/10 - or even higher, better than MBDTF - you're either completely delusional or just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
>muh indie music
Waves makes me feel so fucking good and happy
How can you soulless fucks hate on it
No. I found it on /r/freshalbumart. There are a lot on there.
I'm falling in love with TLOP which is a weird feeling considering MBDTF is my all time favourite. I'm conflicted.
THE ALBUM CAME OUT AND ITS GOOD. worth the wait but all day should have been here instead of facts.
I wish Chance was on it instead of Kanye.
pls no bully
Kanye the type of nigga to feature Rihanna and Chris Brown on the same album
>How can you soulless fucks hate on it
I'm sure as hell never listening to this again let alone buying it.
His vocal tone is just utter shit, sorry. I think he agrees since he uses autotune/vocorder so much.
EVERY AGENT I KNOW, KNOW I HATE AGENTS
I'M TOO BLACK, I'M TOO VOCAL, I'M TOO FLAGRANT
SOMETHING SMELLIN' LIKE SHIT, THAT'S THE NEW FRAGRANCE
IT'S JUST ME, I DO IT MY WAY, BITCH
SOME DAYS I'M IN MY YEEZYS, SOME DAYS I'M IN MY VANS
IF I KNEW Y'ALL MADE PLANS I WOULDN'T HAVE POPPED THE XANS
I KNOW SOME FANS WHO THOUGHT I WOULDN'T RAP LIKE THIS AGAIN
BUT THE WRITER'S BLOCK IS OVER, EMCEES CANCEL YOUR PLANS
>in addition to facts
and then put Only One on there too, make it a perfect 20
TLOP is easily Kanye's worst album. Like it's Kanye's first bad album. This isn't even debatable.
The album isn't cohesive at all. So because of this reason alone it's Kanye's first bad album.
But there are more reasons.
It only has like 5 good songs (Ultralight beam, Real Friends, Wolves, 30 Hours, NMPILA)
Some of these 5 songs aren't even THAT good, some parts are lazy as ****, just mumbling and not even finishing his lyrics
Some tracks are straight up trash (FACTS)
Some songs just bang, but they are far from great.
This album is a 6/10 at most if you review at as a mixtape.
First off Kanye is talented as fuck
But let's be real here, TLOP was a let down tho. This doesn't sound nearly as inspired as MBDTF. A lot of short tracks that don't seem fully fleshed out and discovered.
