In my book, Siamese Dream blew anything Nirvana did out of the water, but that's just my personal taste. Gish might be the Pumpkin's most underrated record and while Mellon Collie has a shitton of filler and is overproduced it's still great. Even that b-side/outtakes compilation they released in between Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream is pretty good. Adore's still great, but after that Billy went batshit insane. He might have been one of the greatest and incredibly talented but he's too fed up on his ego to actually act on it. He was a genius and he's a prick now, is what I'm trying to say.

Wrong. The Smashing Pumpkins outsold Alice in Chains, Soundgrarden and STP. Mellon Collie sold well over 20million records which is pretty incredible for a double album. They were pretty much the biggest band in the 90s after Nirvana.

Pearl Jam might have been more popular though. I'm not entirely sure.

Adore was fine. It didn't reach the commercial success of Mellon Collie but it was well received. Unfortunately Billy gets upset when his records don't sell 20 million copies. That's why he tried to make a "pop" album after Oceania sold poorly. Dude just wants to be as popular as humanly possible.

Machina would have been a good final album if his ego wasn't in overdrive. There's an albums worth of decent material between Machina 1/2, but we don't need 3 different versions of shitty songs like Heavy Metal Machine. The production choices were terrible too and Billy was trying to hard to recapture past magic. Try Try Try was the third time Billy made 1979. (Perfect was another 1979 clone).
