video game music edition
second for godtier power metal
Name a better prog metal album
xth for war
every prog album
fantastic game, too bad the SNES port was awful
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Crimson Glory - Transcendence
Psychotic Waltz - A Social Grace
Sacred Blade - Of The Sun + Moon
Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Pain Of Salvation - The Perfect Element, Part 1
Supuration - The Cube
really I can keep going on forever and ever.
Have you checked out pic at all?
this album does I&W better than I&W
this one is also amazing
here's another good DT clone
It is for sure pretty damn barbaric. It adds intensity to the usual war metal formula by having slight elements of thrash metal (like the more bestial intense side of thrash like early Sodom, Darkness Descends, early Bathory, etc.)
Vithia is superhuman, how can a mere human do wiggerish hand movements so fluidly to those beats, I refuse to believe this isn't choreographed, but it doesn't seem like it
Ratchet and Boktai have no reason to be there.
Clive Barker's Undying is MUCH more metal than Jericho (better game, too.)
Morrowind should definitely be here due to how hostile the atmosphere of that game is.
in all honesty, this is one of the few the so called ''neoclassical'' metal albums i can actually feel the neoclassicism
it's pretty fucking amateurish though, but i'm a big fan of amateurs with different ideas so i'll let it pass
it's even kinda beautiful at some points, in a very kvlt fashion, reminds me of Murmuure, even
pretty great, i see all the classics and more or less everything for every genre
which game is war metal though
not chaotic enough desu
that's a good pic when you think about it, actually, but it's not there
and Hatred is p metal, i mean you play an Nathan Explosion, you drive cars through walls
nah i do (i don't like the music at all though), i mean mostly the symphonic shit, like Fleshgod Apocalypse
i legit think those bands have more focused songwriting, more memorability, and more emotional resonance than DT ever did
DT can't do choruses well, and their songs meander. Agora are a lot more concise and manage some very powerful choruses.
within DT's style of prog metal I also feel that Lemur Voice, Sun Caged, Suspyre, Thessera, and a few other bands have surpassed them in some way or another, and that's not getting into stuff like prog/power (where Angra, Maestrick and Alhambra kick DT's ass no contest) or prog/extreme or whatever other prog subgenre you care to mention (where I much prefer Gonin-ish, Unexpect, Thought Industry, Depressive Age, Dir en Grey, etc.)
Really I&W is just unremarkable to me, I don't see what about it warrants classic status. the lame sax part on Another Day is also legit awful
spooky ass death metal
New Omnium Gatherum track:
Only Dream Theater would be ok with a cover like this
no offence but my beefy brocore husbando could beat him up
I thought that was fake
that hairy armpit
For a track called bounce that doesn't make me want to jump da fuck up
They have a new single that sounds like Muse, it's not as terrible as you'd think
I never got the super braggy verses followed by a weak emo-pop chorus, like at least sound confident the whole song through. And this song has one of the worst attempts at a djent tone I've ever heard
Posting Falling in Reverse is honestly cheating
Scenecore has some jams, plus a billion copycat bands that are funny in a sad way
The little instrumental part in that like halfway through isn't that bad, decentish filler for any djent band desu
Myspace only bands aren't as funny for me, if somehow they managed to get on a semi-decent label or one of the million Victory Records-tier ripoff ones that makes it so much better
>I thought you guys didn't like this?
It's not actually that bad, if they got rid of the generic metalcore or just refined it this could be pretty good
I've never heard this version of that song, and it going full Autechre there in the middle is kinda cool in a weird way
desu I like them, essential cargo shorts mosh-core
Sure thing, friend
First time listening. Not amazing but enjoyable.
>Images and Words
>deserving more than 4/10
Whenever I try to listen to that album, when I reach the second track I feel like I'm listening to Celine Dion and just drop it right there.
Bands in which a chick isn't just a pretty face but is actually a talented member who is involved in songwritting and such? Like the guitarist here.
From 08-11 it was definitely still the trendy thing, once Periphery blew up and deathcore got tech it kinda died off though.
That one video has me curious though, is there an atmosludge/metalcore hybrid band? I actually want that now
>dissing on Cattle Decap
What's the best european thrash record other than Extravasation? This gets my vote.
Why does the voice bug me out so much?
It's like, every instrument is so subtile and blends so neatly with the rest, but the vocalist sounds like Martin van Drunen pulling his pube hair. I don't dislike it, It just doesn't fit with the rest.
Cattle Decapitation are the worst, Ryan constantly bashes death and metalcore when his band sounds much closer to Whitechapel and Suicide Silence than classic death metal. Every Cattle Decap fan I've met was also hige into deathcore, hell, I'd say that Cattle Decap appeal more to the deathcore crowd than metal one. Fuck this band
>joining Morbid Angel instead of making a sequel to this
What was Rutan thinking?
How's the new Conan? I know the stream went up but I'm waiting for that FLAC
top 5 /metal/ of january 2016?
mine so far is
>Chthe'ilist - Le Dernier Crépuscule
>Lycus - Chasms
>Abbath - Abbath
>Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Arc
>Naðra - Allir vegir til glötunar
let me know of some better january 2016 albums because there's gotta be something better
>for core kids
In my years of experience, people who rip on various metal bands for being "watered down metal" seem to always be those who listen to br00tal metal because they're br00tal and want to associate with other fucking br00tal things to get their point across. They typically look like Hot Topic faggots and try way to hard to be 2cool4you. Satan forbid that a group of dudes wants to play music that doesn't appeal to your edgy entry level "muh brutal".
Come to think of it, there are a lot of shit bands that seem to me that aim for being brutal for the sake of being brutal; which if they want to do that, that's fine, it doesn't effect my life. But why don't we have
This song is CC's best song
>oil prices tanking
>town is solely dependent on oil market
>might have to live in a travel trailer with three other people and two dogs
>could do that or risk living with a friend across the state
metal for this feel
>this hasn't been posted yet
Open Face Surgery, at 3:45
My personal favorite. All of Tompa's shrieks are already insane, but then the break at 1:44 hits... Chills.
binding of isaac is one of the most metal games ever made.
What are the essential bands if I wanna dress like this and not be called a poser?
dont dress like that though you will look like a melt
>No first wave
>Barely any second wave
>No blackened thrash
>Like 1 war metal release
>Barely any raw black metal
For a chart being aimed at people new to blck metal he's missing a fuckton of actually essential albums, he's just focusing more on modern bands that mix black metal with [genre X] as opposed to properly introducing people to the genre.
It's okay senpai I'm not actually new, I know the basics and I just downloaded a whole lot of revenge albums. Just up till now I've been jamming a lot of atmoshit and I wanted to get into the more evil stuff.
Even for atmoshit it's missing stuff like Burzum, Emperor, and Ulver. It's a decent chart for if you want to explore black metal beyond entry and sub-entry level (mainly the atmospheric stuff), but for someone new to black metal it's missing way too much key stuff. Maybe for the rest of /mu/ it'd be okay since "weird" black metal is the only kind of metal /mu/ hipsters will admit they like.
Guys, I really don't think any other album this year will surpass this one. Holy shit man, I just heard it and, not even memeing here, it's seriously the AOTY and probably one of the more important metal releases of the past few years
It's just a shitty meme chart that one guy spammed for a while, to the point that people now actually consider it good. I checked out 5 random albums that I hadn't heard before, and they were all completely unremarkable.
Plus the very first recommended album is Watain. Yikes.
is there any band that simultaneously manages to look like the biggest bunch of losers ever, AND the fucking chillest bunch of bros to hang out with?
bros why is /metal/ so dead
who wants to see the same chart of bathory, mayhem, immortal and darkthrone? There is way too many of those already so it's good that there is one that has different albums.
After finishing the album I sent an email to the band saying I love them
Because it's actually quite poor as a chart of "essentials" or as an introduction to the genre. If someone has already explored said classics and wants something new, I suppose it works for that. But really, it's just some guy's personal taste. Much better charts exist.
>tfw basically been listening to no music
+dat dere dungeon syth. Any of that old school shit good?
God damn, Paolo Girardi is the new Dan Seagrave with all his art being everywhere these last few years
you're trying and thats all that matters, now listen to more bolt thrower.
dudes vocals are insane and that production is so much better than their debut because of scott "the wall" burns dicking it up
underrated game, nice to see it on that list
>arguably best Bolt Thrower
pretty damn good I'd say, props for not being a pussy scrobbling Undermeme ost
7/10, torn on whether this or ATGHK deserve the 8/10. this is more consistent and Snow Patrol's chorus is lovely, but it fades in the latter half where ATGHK has Louise Louisa
4/10, a bit disappointed by this, a clear step below unanimated/sacramentum/necrophobic/etc
8/10, exemplary electro jpop
9/10, dat flow though
8/10, their most consistent but nothing is as good as dream fighter (spring of life is close)
3/10, it may look like cool US-ish pm, but it's just conception-esque chugprog. nice solos tho
3/10, A BDM Album
7/10, not especially memorable but comfy
4/10, just some poorly-paced minimal-ish techno
8/10, fucking brilliant debut!
5/10, not nakata's best project, can't say it lacks diversity but it's unappealing
5/10, too bleak and brash for me, awesome production tho and i have to admit paper planes is a good single
7/10, i've never heard anything give as few fucks as this
7/10, gay sympho-black
7/10, a few non-generic denpa tracks like 雹落, mostly just crazy high-pitched jabbering over camellia's production though (WHICH IS AWESOME)
4/10, mostly too chill, lacks moe & ghosts' compelling flow and eclectic production
3/10, this sure was an album yep
7/10, best deathcore i've found in a while, very diverse
6/10, normally not into this really delicate ambient pop but this is just so comfy
7/10, really cool, reminds me of dirty projectors
6/10, idk if the folk element is stereotypical or not but it's way better than, like, myrath
5/10, pretty standard 90s prog
4/10, too much fucking around
3/10, not enough fucking around
8/10, awesome. amazed it came from fuckin' albania
>gesu no kiwami otome
BASED. i need to get on their new album myself...
and actually i think they are leaning to more pop oriented stuff, I hope its just a small phaze cause I miss my super deep avant garde metal
Oh great fucking pianos anon, I didn't make it that far into any song because of how it sounds almost the exactly the same, but replacing sweet guitar leads with more Language type shit makes me salty.
I am entirely too sleepy to rate this tonight like DMSG does, but everything on this I at least liked
chtehysetseylisetysrylisrtzledallegenedofzeledathjisisist for Band of The Month
and Timeghoul, Adramelech and Catacomb
Adramelech's riffs feel a lot less liquid than Demilich's do, and I get the same very bold solidity from Chthe'ilist's riffs. They accent things a lot more aggressively than Demilich. Calling it Nespithe 2 is a bit reductive.
it's good but i just don't want to give super-high ratings out since i don't know the genre too well
opinions on this record?
i've heard it described as 'blackened sludge' but i'm not sure i agree.
nice trips but how do you not see it as blackened sludge? i mean obviously there's more to the equation (plenty of post hardcore etc) but it's not like it can't fall under that umbrella
I got blizzard drunk and listened to too much prog again
>trying to make a track with the ferocious anger of cobalt on eater of birds
>found an idea for the conclusion before even reaching that point on the song
>fades on a clean guitar playing a nice chord progression
>relisten to eater of birds
>it's the final riff of the title track
>why they didn't get more recognition
that's because sludge (and i mean trad sludge) is a rather obscure genre, because they're one of the quintessential sludge bands
