You mean it doesn't sound like Venom? Then yeah, no, not very true. Since you think all black-metal should have a raw, lo-fi sound that is harsh just because its less processed you probably just mistake "well" produced for "too well" produced. In terms of riffing, lyrics, vocal style, songwriting, Blodsgard is actually rather generic and true to old school norwegian formulas. Not that it being norwegian makes it more true just based on that fact. As for the album cover, it's fine. Who cares about album covers anyway?

It's pretty well known that if you consider Mayhem in any way to be the pinnacle of black metal you are fronting hard. Mayhem isn't terrible but they're overrated, you're probably more in it for the spectacle than for the genre.

Go back and listen to Bathory, Darkthrone, Burzum, and early Immortal again, than expand from there.
