I grew up in a Baptist church and went to a Christian school and I agree. I think it's a mixture of post-modernism and the lack of inspiration that's the problem. Devout Christians don't listen to any other music besides Christian music, so there is no inspiration or idea that more complicated music exists. It's just a huge circlejerk of blandness. The good Christian bands are usually the ones that aren't labeled as Christian to be sold in Mardel. The only bands I still think are good are Underoath. August Burns Red, and *kind of* Lecrae.

Gonna have to go with this. I think music is inherently spiritual and emotional (like most art) and it just kills me to know that most modern christian music boils down to tepid uninspired hymns and feel good rip-offs of whatever pop/rock is currently mainstream.

It makes sense though. The people with talent go and make whatever music they want, with or without religious inspiration and the talentless losers find some identity to cling to so they're not completely irrelevant.
