>Soon isn't the best track
>Machine Gun isn't the best shoegaze song of all time
Loomer, when you sleep and what you want 3-way tie followed by only shallow, touched, to here knows when, i only said, sometimes, blown a wish are the next best songs then come in alone and soon are the least good, but still good. trust me, i'm really pretentious and i've listened to the original and remaster hundreds of times, more than kevin shields i promise that's the actual tier list
To Here Knows When is truly the patrician choice. If you can't see it's the culmination of everything they were working towards and Shield's masterpiece you don't understand My Bloody Valentine.
'Only Shallow', 'I Only Said', 'To Here Knows When', 'When You Sleep', 'Sometimes' and 'Soon' are all legit choices.
Choosing anything else outta that album for best track is absolute plebity.
THKW is actually better on the EP same with soon. they were less dense on the EPs and the depth had more clarity. No doubt it's a fantastic song but the other 3 just achieve the aesthetic they tried to achieve better. When You Sleep is truly their trippiest, and WYW and loomer are truly their most authentically emotional songs. the music of those three really captures something most modern rock doesn't, and it's in the lack of disparity between the artist's vision and the product, without any of the cliche or niche they sometimes subject themselves to (mbv)
It's still a good song but it's the least Loveless-y on the album. Whereas Loveless generally creates this hazy, dreamlike atmosphere that's all its own, Sometimes feels almost concrete, like a bit of a coming down to earth in comparison. That's not inherently a bad thing but if I were to show someone who knows nothing about shoegaze any song from the album it'd easily be Sometimes. Any other choice, save maybe When You Sleep, might sound too noisy and abstract at first.
I'm not sure if I'd call When You Sleep their trippiest song - I'm willing to give that to THKW because that shit's a semi-formless blanket of sound - but Loomer and What You Want having a stronger emotional core is something I can get behind, especially Loomer.
Sometimes I think this board is filled with little children. Not teenagers but actual little children.
Because of how things are discussed.
>A isn't the best. pleb
>A is shit. Pleb
>The entire album is shit you pleb
>The album is great you pleb.
>What is X
>What is Y
The discussion is so stupid and limited because everyone just keeps shitting their opinions here. To some extent it is justifiable because this board is primarily meant for people discussing their opinions. But the quality of this discussion is so shit.
Not a single person here discusses the nuances or subtleties of music pieces or goes into a deeper discussion of it than "X is pleb-tier/goat-tier".
I admit that i've gotten decent recommendations from here before but by god the discussion quality is shite.
