>Being so insecure about your taste that you need to refer to some music you like as a guilty pleasure
I enjoy Pierce The Veil's first album and it's not a guilty pleasure since I'm not some faggot concerned with people on a Nepalese handbasket weaving tutorial have to say about it.
I know that. I meant I'm new to the broader genre (metal) and am interested in any recommendations in any of those kinds of music, which I've discovered I like.
I really, really like Siege - Drop Dead, and anything by Melvins.
I got both in one package
sea of deprivation - catharsis in disharmony
it's really crusty pissed off sludge
also check out:
toadliqour - feel my hate the power is weight
meth drinker - s/t
leechmilk - starvation of locusts
that ranges from hardcore punk to the edge of nosie/pv
no of this is metal though, you should know that
Sweet. Thanks, anon.
Fuck yeah. Thank you.
I had that album recommended to me like a month ago in one of these threads as a place to get my foot in the door of metal for someone who likes punk rock. But I'll keep in mind it isn't actually. Thank you for the recommendations.
for all your d-beat/crust punk needs
+Riot, Cathedral, Septic flesh
+BT, ATG, Demonstrating, Dismember, Judas Priest
>>inb4 no fag
idk if it's jared anymore or the joker himself
listen to more neil young 2bh
I STALKED YOU FOR YEARS
will Cannibal Corpse ever tell George to dial it back? they're so good songwriting-wise but they just can't seem to resist going BOUNCE BOUNCE GEORGE VOCALS BOUNCE
I'm largely ex-/mu/. Not ex-/metal/ tho.
Yeah, maybe. I like smaller boards though.
Name me a worse band
Protip: you cant
every song sounds about the same, the drums and vocals are beyond obnoxious and are stupidly repetitive, they think technicality makes their music interesting, their lyrics are graphic beyond reason and without any point.
I seriously dont get how anyone could like this band. Can anyone shed some light on it, am i missing something?
you're probably about 10-15 years too young to understand their importance.
when CC came into their own, Vile/Eaten/Tomb, nothing with the musicianship and production value was playing anything nearly as brutal, it was just pure evil madness, the only musicians that were playing similar style were either slower (bolt thrower), faster but less technical (deicide), or were not a low tuned and didnt follow the same from beyond style (thrash metal)
They are cheesy as all fuck now, I agree, but they used to blow your dick right the fuck off ( if you hadn't already listened to grindcore)
IMO, it really wasn't until heartwork that dm really started to grow in popularity and the rise of much bigger bands came to be
>every song sounds the same
How does it feel being closed-minded?
>drums and vocals are stupidly repetitive
It's DEATH METAL.
>technicality makes their music interesting
Except it does if it's done right.
>their lyrics are graphic without reason or point
They're the music version of B-rated horror movies. Seriously how can you not know this? That's been their thing since the beginning.
b8 got me good
aren't we forgetting something?
Really curious since you seem to be big on CC
What did you think of Kill? I thought it was fucking awesome, but then again there I was, listening to my first CC album. I relistened and it still seemed pretty sweet. These days I'm a regular listener of all types of death metal and metal in general, so I'm not sure if it's nostalgia goggles or if there's really somethong there.
>imply BTBAM has good songwriting
The intro is pretty good, but they loose it when the vocals come in. The melodies are just overly noodly without any sense of restraint.
As >>61950638 said, their influence on DM is huge. On top of that, they've been one of the more consistent DM bands. Sure, they've had their lows but they always bounce back with some brutal shit
>There's dozens of bands that do what Cannibal Corpse does better.
As someone who doesn't even like CC much, I don't agree at all. CC is easily among the best at what they do. Who are all of these so-called better bands? And no, Cannabis Corpse is not better.
... we are literally talking about pre internet days dude
at the gates, in flames, entombed, and expulsion, and i had no clue who these bands were until the late 90's. I feel most people stateside would agree with that as well.
How many of you guys also listen to Garage Rock?
I've been curious to see if thered a significant crossover between the Metal and Garage Rock fanbases, as it would explain why a lot of newer Garage Rock sounds very Stoner influenced.
I don't care what you say. This shit is heavy as fuck. And I know you all want to give me shit for it, but how about you come back when you can decide between claiming they're still green and claiming they're a bunch of dinosaurs?
That's not what I criticized. I'm saying that the songwriting isn't tasteful and lacks restraint. I'm fully down with prog/tech shit, but constant noodling is not very interesting. Good tech bands know how to mix it up by adding in slower sections or something as well.
I'm not denying that, I was explaining as a fan of early cannibal corpse why people thought what they thought of cannibal corpse, and why someone who is likely 15-22 years old might not really understand the reason they were popular
if you want to have a conversation I need you to stay with the topic though.
Cannibal Corpse released literally their best album in 2014.
They are a meme band, I will stand by that statement 100% but Skeletal Domain was one of the most fun and well produced death metal albums I have ever heard.
Currently on a very strong Black Metal kick can't listen to anything else. Pic is one of my favorite albums.
I mean an entire album sure. One song of all fast and furious isn't bad at all though. That's kinda what genres like grindcore and brutal death do. Conversely, you don't need a fast section in a funeral doom track. I don't think you NEED a variety of textures in an album as long as what's written is enjoyable. It helps normally, but it's not a requirement.
i dont know, I'm not a huge black metal fan myself so thats why I was asking, haha.
it came at the top of a few best of 2015 list and I havn't gotten a chance to listen to it all the way through yet.
>avoid /metal/ for a year because i assume it's full of closed-minded manchildren
>get into black metal and start poking around the thread every once in a while
>eventually post and get some solid recs, people are generally friendly and helpful even if i can't understand their tastes sometimes
>realize lots of metal fans don't take their shit too seriously and have other interests as well
>now slowly getting into other styles as well
thanks lads. don't think i've found a less retarded place for metal discussion
So my roommate, who I was expecting back last week, just came home. And the place is a mess. Today might be the worst shape the apartment has been in since they've been gone. So now I am dreading speaking with them. Posting here because I literally don't have friends to talk about this with. just ignore this desu
Grindcore has the decency to be short though. I'm not super familiar with brutal death, but None So Vile has plenty of variation and tempo changes.
>I don't think you NEED a variety of textures in an album as long as what's written is enjoyable. It helps normally, but it's not a requirement.
I guess that's fair, but that BTBAM song relies on very similar noodly parts throughout the whole song and I find that to be dull.
Well in all honesty my black metal discography is kinda small compared to other genres I've mostly just stuck to the old school black metal bands like Gorgoroth, Bathory, Immortal, etc. I kind of want to finish getting all of their stuff before moving on.
took a while but i did. that's not to say there aren't people who seem to take themselves very seriously and listen exclusively to metal. before i just assumed everyone was like that
is there something wrong with this?
Trashy album art aside, why is this the best 2000's Cannibal Corpse album?
>How come whenever you see Satan in a music video it's just a dork in a costume?
>Yeah. The real Satan doesn't do videos. Unless it's like for Danzig or something.
How are Beavis & Butthead so goddamn funny when it's like 80% terrible poop jokes?
>tfw no more good cybergrind
It's all that one of my fucking retard housemates would watch, besides Ninja Turtles ("omg the nostalgia bro, do you remember???!!") and dumbass South Park, which has decreased in hilarity steadily from the third season and is now unwatchable like Family Guy
>tfw you will never go back in time and see Mayhem live in Leipzig
i don't see how this and this are both considered cybergrind, i've always thought cybergrind was about absurdly fast drum machines and really fucked up synths
GT are more like mathcore with keys
but the entire joke is exactly that the characters are fucking idiots, you're not supposed to root for them or emulate them; it's Mike Judge laughing at 90s culture. If all you got from it was 'ehehehe uhuhuhuhu' then damn man, I don't know. It's not even subtle.
Well I don't think you understand that my housemate was too dull and stoned out of his fucking mind every day smoking that ridiculous 3 foot bong of his until midnight to realize what 'parody' was, and would laugh at butthole jokes 'because how stupid is that?'
Here's a good album to be topical
I always thought this was a fun comfy album
Is bongland up this early on a saturday? I don't think i've had the distinct pleasure of speaking with a resident of the bongistani caliphate™ about metal before t b h
Is black metal still the only rage there
>“Other things could come out of it because the story is very rich as far as the characters and plot, so a video game, novel or anything else might happen; a movie or even a musical,” says Petrucci. “A bunch of those things I mentioned are in the works, and as they get closer we’ll reveal the schedule of [release].”
On the other hand I listened to the new single and was actually pleasantly surprised. They'll never go back to the Images & Words sound but it's better than their last few albums.
>tfw listening to this album while watching snow fall outside
Comfy as fuck.
Is that... a quote from a real interview.
need some (real) metal to listen to whilst fapping to (fake) gore
can't be non-guttural pussy shit btw
>The best days of Black Metal are behind us and we can never get them back.
Cattle Decapitation, my personal favorite.
Spawn of Possession
I'm too lazy to think of any more.
Under the Church
And pic related
yea but i thought it would be funnier if anon just posted that without knowing of the band
so i wanted to see if that was the case?
i don't know anymore i just want to suffer in peace
Any raw bm from the last couple of years worth checking out?
>tfw 'diversity' should mean some Star Trek 'everyone gets to pitch in' scenario
>tfw what it actually means is 'you get a billion sandnigs and you have to like it or raycis'
is there meal for this feel?
Black metal isn't even metal. It's punk. It's literally strumming powerchord progressions, sometimes add simplistic guitar lines as "solos", and claim it has more to do with the "feel" and "ideals" behind the music than the actual fucking music itself. Also most early black isn't even heavy, it's all treble and high frequencies.
The most it can do is some ok counterpoint with tremolo guitars.
Post some death metal.
Well tbqh m8 I don't get it either, there is nothing to be found in black metal music-wise except for a handful of bands that get ignored and I find it hilarious, it's deep=It's good
I can't stop listening to evanescence. I've fallen into the memes. I'm in love with the music and Amy Lee is so perfect. How do I stop listening to this music and go back to listening to real metal? Take my advice, do not listen to bands ironically you might start actually liking them unironically.
>there are people this musically retarded posting in this general
>you've probably been told your taste is shit by people like this
This is Amy Lee from Evanescence now
I really like Mikael Akerfeldt's harsh vocal tone from 2008 in Opeth (watershed) and Bloodbath (fathomless mastery/unblessing the purity), who's a vocalist who sounds like that or better?

>I like death metal
>I don't like death metal bands
If you don't like any of the above, you don't like death metal, or you think Evanescence is death metal.
Cannibal Corpse: too childish
Suffocation: lel so br00tal xD
Immolation: love them actually, missed that
Death: love them too actually
>you don't like 20 death metal bands
>you must not like any death metal bands
We fell for the bait. Goddamn insecure underage.
People place too much emphasis on brutality and technicality when they should be focusing on what actually sounds good. If understanding death metal means completely giving up on melody then fine, I don't understand death metal.
It doesn't work that way, I used to be retarded like you, "DURR WHERE DA MELODY AT" death metal was never about melodies in the first place, only way I can help is start listening to entry level tech death like obscura(the band) and you'll brake into the brutality soon enough
And this is why death metal will never as good as black metal. I had a phase when I actually thought "none so vile" was good. Now, listening to it would only give me headache.
