Digging Mercury Rev

I already listen to Interpol, limited space on a 5x5
>>
>>61950135
well francisco lopez isn't really noise he's a field recordings artist who uses techniques and ideas from musique concrete, lowercase, onkyo, and dark ambient. eric holm a rhythmic noise artist who also used a single sound source for his one album

if you're coming at it from a punk angle I'd recommend checking out:
Зaтyхaниe - Зaтyхaниe
albierch - NATO uniformen
hanatarash - hanatarashi

;)

I love the talk talk and macha albums you recced last time but I haven't heard any of the others, I'll definitely give them a go
especially the meters sounds really cool
>>
>>61950572
Oh yeah I like olhon & mcgreevy, thanks though.

Do you happen to know anyone more in the vein of his more natural sounding works, like La Selva? I can't find anything with the crazy quality and level of detail Lopez maintains
>>61950581
Wow you do like your pop
Listen to Waxahatchee - American Weekend
>>61950665
Ok glad to hear it! Macha are fucking awesome.
Listen to Lou Harrison - Gamelan Music, it's classical but it uses gamelan rather than traditional orchestra and it's pretty neat
>>
>>61950746
only 1/5 is pop m8, 6/25 if you count Jeff Rosenstock as "pop punk"
thanks for the rec though I'll check it out

>>61950746
>Do you happen to know anyone more in the vein of his more natural sounding works, like La Selva? I can't find anything with the crazy quality and level of detail Lopez maintains
I think I talked to you on last.fm about this
I don't know anything like the natural stuff from lopez but you may have luck looking through the field recordings section of the smithsonian folkways label. it's mostly an informational, narrated style similar to voices of north american owls but you may find something musically focused if you dig through it.
>>
>>61950746
hell yeah they are
I was very briefly obsessed with gamelan a while back and so they were basically a godsend

cool, I'll definitely check it out too
eventually

I'm actually doing a whole month of kpop because I just love being shit on here so much

>>61950294
I adore hanatarash so I'm pretty stoked to look into the rest of these, thanks
>>
>>61950967
This is hilarious I had no idea it was you
Folkways sounds like a good bet, some of the trad I've found on there has great field recordings with it. Thanks for the idea
>>61951005
Have fun with that lol
Kpop is... Not my thing
>>
>>61951067
>This is hilarious I had no idea it was you
this has happened to me a couple times, I had the same conversation in three threads with the same guy about scrap metal in noise music.
>>61951005
>I'm actually doing a whole month of kpop because I just love being shit on here so much
I like your attitude dude. and months of one genre are fun as hell, I did NBBMN and NBND back to back.
>I adore hanatarash so I'm pretty stoked to look into the rest of these, thanks
they're not really similar to hanatarash cause I'm not a fan of that spastic style of noise but they're hella aggressive and raw so I figures a punk fan would like them
>>
>>61951067
I can't imagine that's too uncommon an opinion
I'm a pretty big fan do it hasn't been much of a challenge so to speak

I've actually had loads of fun with the listening part, but coming here has been really draining lately because there's a total of like 3 guys who have any interest in what I've been listening to and most of the rest would prefer if I died lol

>>61951155
cheers! it's been really great for polishing off discographies and revisiting some artists I never really gave a chance

right on, as you can imagine aggressive music has been pretty scarce so I think I'm in the perfect mindset to be steamrolled by something really intense

did you have any trouble listening to ONLY noise for a whole month? I imagine it'd be pretty tough to go without melody and harmony for so long
>>
>>61951231
>did you have any trouble listening to ONLY noise for a whole month? I imagine it'd be pretty tough to go without melody and harmony for so long
I had a hell of a lot more trouble with the black metal. NBND was fun as shit.
>>
>>61951231
Well I'm sorry I can't really help with kpop stuff at all
I heard you were a punk fan? What types of punk we talkin?
>>
>>61951346
haha, it's cool, really
definitely not for everyone

I was basically raised on hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, and 80s emo
I was blessed with the coolest parents of all time, so the soundtrack to my childhood was descendents, dag nasty, the flaming lips, black flag, void etc etc
I also got really really into emocore/screamo and crust/pv as a teenager and pop punk and folk punk also, although I'm less into them lately

most recently I was really interested in the math rock/post-hardcore/emo kind of stuff coming out of the 90s and late 80s

are you a punk sort of guy

>>61951298
right on, like everything else I guess it's way more diverse than it seems from the outside

Yeah a little. We both come from punk backgrounds, but from somewhat different scenes. My dad was into punk and alt shit like Black Flag, Circlejerks, Pixies, JAMC, etc, and my older brother was and is really immersed in the local garage and punk diy scene. My taste in punk is really trashy, I love any raucous garage punk or loud, blown out noise pop you can find.

If you're looking for math rock/emo check out Pretend. They're softer but really really pretty sounding
>>61951499
