This just came out recently. Getting it atm. Opinions so far?
will iceland drop an outstanding bm album at the beginning of every year from now on?
One of the teachers in my first semester of college a few years back was big into metal, had been to Maryland Deathfest many times, and I used to bum smokes offa him when I ran out.
Friendly reminder to avoid memesludge and atmosludge. Know your enemy.
I went to a private christian school
and my Bible teacher was a huge fan of Living Sacrifice
They're actually pretty good too, all of their eras are great, though they seem to morph a lot. I generally prefer their first album because it's straight-up Slayer worship
Not initially, but in highschool I took a bunch of art classes and most were taught by the same dude, and I slowly turned him into a metal head. I would play music for the class to work to after a lecture, and in between ambient and smooth jazz trash I would sneak in some metal songs, and when people would complain he would say, "well, you need to accept music of other cultures, expand your mind maaaaaan," and he eventually was just asking me for recs like every week.
Fuck no, Corrupted is for people who want Boris but also don't want to be associated with /mu/core e.g. posers, and Indian is pretentious fantanocore with bits of poorly executed noise to seem heavier despite the shit riffs.
>Corrupted is for people who want Boris but also don't want to be associated with /mu/core e.g. posers
What? Corrupted's much darker than Boris reflecting more sludge like atmosphere, and how's Indian pretentious? Their approach to using the noisy stuff is a different way of doing the feedback noise shit Eyehategod did.
These have nothing to do with the actual musical qualities
>tfw Armine from Rosetta will never teach you sociology
>corrupted is for people who want boris
Do you even know what you're talking about or are you just lumping them together because they're both prominent jap bands who made sludge metal?
Corrupted sounds nothing like Boris.
What's everyone's beef with atmosludge? Only a few years ago it was highly beloved genre and now faggots are hating on it
Because if it isn't actually heavy post-rock, it's actually ambient post-hardcore and in nether case it's really metal so it has no place in these threads. Why do they even call it atmosludge anyway, there hasn't been sludge in "atmosludge" since Times of Grace.
Both go hand in hand but extreme metal is best when it's either heavy, aggressive, sinister, or raw. Why listen to extreme music if you just want a watered down and accessible version of it?
Because some want more things from metal music, I hate how some people judge metal only on how heavy XTREME and BROOTAL it is, ignoring other things like atmospere and musicianship
It's not watered down it's just been mixed with another ingredient equally important to it's composition. Being accessible isn't a bad thing when the focus of the music isn't on "extremeness".
But they do care about actual songwriting. There's a reason an album like Altars Of Madness by Morbid Angel is considered among the if the best metal albums. There's a reason places like DMU make albums like Kaeck's Stormkult from last year their AOTY. Gimmicks are in fact not very much loved in metal at all, even muh heavy or muh br00tal
also p fuckin good
Now that shilling has stopped can we agree this is mediocre?
>Why do people say their post ATWW albums are shit? They got some great songs
Well you're not wrong, stuff like Down With The Sun proves they can still crank out amazing stuff.
The issue is they're usually nowhere near as consistent or cohesive as ATWW when it comes to the whole album.
That and shit like their latest really does just feel like melodeath for the masses, with very very few tracks shining as the Insomnium that blew everyone's minds in 2006.
You can be techy/proggy while still retaining the feel of being raw and heavy (see: Atheist, Demilich, Korpse, Gorguts)
You need proper atmosphere and musicianship to make music that compliments the dirty feel extreme metal should have, if you want less gritty stuff then listen to power metal or some genre that isn't metal
I prefer the term diluted as opposed to mixed. Piece Of Time by Atheist is truly a great blend of thrashy death metal and jazz, guitarpro wank bands like Obscura on the other hand dilute the genre with overly flashy tech worship
Well, I really dont think they have a shit quality album, but maybe we can say they didnt catch their old songs quality. But again, they were still pretty good.
To me insomniums only big problem is its song masterings. I can clearly hear the hissing sound in background in most of their songs. Kinda ruins the experience for me.
I would say that while ATWW was 9/10, the other 2 were 7 and last one was 6/10, the biggest problem with Insomnium though is that they simply ran out of ideas, I don't expect them to change dratically, but they should try something else before teir music turns too stale like Amon Amarth
>You can be techy/proggy while still retaining the feel of being raw and heavy
Sure, but Focus doesn't sound "raw and heavy" to me outside of a few songs (neither does Atheist's Elements) and I think those are both awesome albums.
What did you think of this album? Who do you think are the anonymous members?
Anyone knows who designed the artcover?
I personally liked it a lot, very original in a subgenre that sometimes struggles to release actual good shit.
What rating do you think you will give this album?
A friend of mine thought at it was a shame the songs didn't last longer. I guessed what he was trying to say is that the band didn't fully developped the atmosphere and texture.
I kind of agree with him, but I thought it was great despite that. For example, the voice samples are thoughtfully put, in a way that you don't hear often (or that I've haven't heard much at least). It's a small thing, but it struck me as pretty inventive on their part.
and need something to numb me into sleep, the only way i can go to sleep with an headache
probably just gonna listen to this
paysage d'hiver is my fav sleeping metal
Do you think Garm will make metal album again or he grew up?
I said metal
Better than super collider. There are some memorable songs on it. Some of them just kind of passed me by without catching my interest.
Dystopia and Emperor were good.
Need a few more listens to really get a good feel for it.
I'm no one, but I think it's good.
Listening to pic rel right now out of curiosity from the shitposting earlier, this is surprisingly comfy. I can sort of see the Boris comparison in this case, feels like a heavier Flood with more sludge than drone.
Rec me some music based on this image
My science teacher in 9th and 10th grade was big into 80's metal. He'd make me copies of his Celtic Frost albums and Armored Saint and shit like that. We'd talk about GWAR in class and stuff too.
Alright senpai I'm going to go medititate before sleep and create a thoughtform for rise of the north star to make a collab with deathspell omega, mark my words, it WILL happen, screencap this post
Tetrastructural Minds is so good man
Some anon recommended me a song by Vehemence a few days ago and I ended up listening to the whole album God Was Created, I like pretty much all the songs on it. I don't care too much for their newest album but do you anons have any other recommendations based off of that and this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6cMVf1cXPU
what are you guys listening to, and what are you thoughts on it, regardless if it's the first time listening or not
listening to pic related atm, probably one of my favorite stoner metal albums, shit is tight as fuck
dank as fuck, can't get enough of it
better than elil but not as good as owsla.
this band and bands like it kind of have a tendency to fall back on the same progressions a progressions ain't everything so (shriggy guy)
honestly i'd like to know the answer to this too
Guys, I'm pretty jaded when it comes to music these days, all kinds of music. Pretty much the only thing I listen to is Dissection's "Storm of the Light's Bane" over and over and that's just when I am driving.
Is there anything better than that album or anything that is on par that I might have missed over the years?
dope ass industrial hip hop
lyrics flow like crazy although I imagine it not being as good if you can't understand czech
yeah, being able into czech is definitely something you need to fully enjoy the album
i mean you can always just look the translated lyrics up in case they're laying around somewhere but you'll never get "Lexikon", which is my favorite song off the album, unless you have basic czech vocabulary and know some of the rules making the language what it is
czech language is incredibly flexible but very little to no music artists use it to its full potential
it's pretty much that way for all of hip-hop, if i don't know the language i can pretty much fuck off and that leaves me frustrated
specially on such a cool industrial hip hop, which is my favorite hip hop genre, no doubt about it
does anyone else in /meal/ like Slough Feg? I post them from time to time and nobody bites
>ywn be busted in the Sword Worlds with a loaded Gauss gun
finally listened to this last night. idk why i put it off
Its probably my 4th favorite from Mayhem behind De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Deathcrush and Live in Leipzig
Not purely death metal but whatever.
...for victory > realm of chaos > the ivth crusade > those once loyal > mercenary > war master > in battle there is no law > honour valour pride
this album is so fucking good
Like an Everflowing Stream
>that fucking guitar tone
A lot of that stuff is very good so I'm not just shitting on it, but it does seem to be a shortcut to 'respectability' for people who are ashamed they like meal a lot of the time.
>b-but listen to the bassline
>it's like music that real people listen to
Becausejazz is seen as highbrow and it makes you "educated." Of course, plenty of albums with so called jazz influence fucking suck. But pic related is god tier prog death/jazz fusion and honestly one of my favorite albums.
>the beginning of The World Is Mine
just had a TAC scan yesterday, it was canceled 2 times before lol
that would be a good investment, although it's not rare for me to sleep an entire day either
Khanate sound almost the same
I love that album man, Republic of Heaven brings a tear to my eye every time
>We will not go quiet, we will not be restrained, we will not be slaves to an impotent regime
As one who has derided the djent scene for years and years as being utter trash, it almost pains me to admit just how much I adore the massive, unforgiving Meshuggah groove this song has. It's so blatantly djent, but it's done with skill and execution that djent bands could only dream of. Add on the towering chorus, the brilliantly left-field synth parts and the almost black metal chords and this is one of the best things Meshuggah ever can claim influence on.
forgot pic again
well, i think "jazz influence" is very often used as a cheap way to sound sophisticated and progressive. you can pull it off well but just dropping a lame pseudo-jazz bit into the middle of a tech death track makes me lose a lot of respect for the band's songwriting ability and overall integrity
>the only thing Myrkur is good at is sucking Garm's cock
exactly, you dont want people saying OMG Darkthrone, burzum, morbid angel.ect, is amazing because we all know that already and we want new shit being posted.
Speaking of which czech this shit out. It's a black/death band that is basically american hate forest which has some very good riffs. https://deathfortress.bandcamp.com/album/among-the-ranks-of-the-unconquerable
My problem with Traced In The Air isn't even the fact that it had so little death metal, it also was not that jazzy either and the songwriting in general was nowhere near as sophisticated as Focus.
The biggest thing Traced in Air lacks imo is the creative bass play of the debut album. But otherwise I think it's almost there. King of Those Who Know is one of their best songs.
>Americans having opinions about BM
i'd love to see the result of these guys making an atmoblack album, i think it would sound awesome
i could make one, there's TOOH, Contrastic, Melancholy Pessimism, what else?
>the A looks like a dick
BENIS IN VARJONA :DDDDDD
She only said that she doesn't receive threats from the rest of the world. There's more than Europe and the Americas you know.
No idea, sending death threats to untrve bands is a tradition after all.
Yes it is but do it in a manly way.
I'm a Garm fanboy and i don't even blame him for that
If after making great music for years i could produce a qt ripping my oldies off i would
Plus it pisses off the ones that whine(?d) for the band stopping making metal
Negligent Collateral Collapse
Destructive Explosion of Anal Garland
