Why dont you guys talk about Manowar? Are you all posers?
/nbbmn/ was great last year
lots of industrial black metal
lots of comfy memes
Hail To England > Battle Hymns > Kings of Metal > Triumph of Steel > Sign of the Hammer > Warriors of the World > Louder Than Hell > Gods of War > Lords of Steel > Battle Hymns MMXI > Kings of Metal MMXIV
Speaking of loli and metal i kinda like thistotally crappy black metal
and thvs trve
, self described as lolicore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ_BGxcFG7c
God-tier: Tech death/grind/thrash, doom, blackened thrash
Great tier: 2nd wave black, power, prog, avant, 90s metalcore, 90s melodeath
Ok tier: ordinary death/grind/thrash, heavy/speed, slam, war metal
Low tier: Atmosludge, modern melodeath, deathcore, caverncore
Irredeemable shit tier: post black
Battle Hymns > Hail to England > Kings of Metal > Into Glory Ride > Triumph of Steel > Sign of the Hammer > Warriors of the World > Louder Than Hell > Gods of War > Lords of Steel > Battle Hymns MMXI > Kings of Metal MMXIV.
You forgot link related.
Best video of youtube desu.
Then why is this above atmospheric black which has some really good stuff,
except, maybe that its not metal anymore
, link related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv-HBOA9E0w
Because the few good caverncore artists outweigh the few good atmoblack artists in terms of quality of composition, though maybe there are some extremely well hidden gems idk about, the atmoblack that people listen to here is just terrible, urfaust and burzum are pretty good though, also atmoblack really doesn't sound like metal to me but call it whatever you like
>writing off atmoshit
how does it feel to be so plebeian that you're writing off an entire subgenre? i'm a /riff/fag btw.
That's entirely wrong though. Brutal death metal and thrash metal have a shit ton of hilariously bad bands, more than atmoshit even, you just don't hear about them because they never make it anywhere.
they're /atmo/. without all of the triumphant atmosphere and power accompanying the riffs, they are underwhelming when singled out.
have some more GOAT atmoshit
y-y-you have shit taste ;_;
9:35 is fucking great.
It's literally just the same thing as Summoning and /metal/'s always liked Summoning
>people hate caladan brood
looks like people can't handle the glorious cheese, i'll be laughing at all of you heathens when i die and go to valhalla
His music isn't though, the real degenerate faggots are the ones that speak in an effeminate voice all the time, not saying I wouldn't fuck the shit out of some of these guys I know, but no homo
nigga black metal's been fruity as fuck since the 90s
How right is this?
To be fair, yes, until recently i was getting metal memes from /r/metal and /r/metaljerk (which is legitimately good), the only redditsubs that i can still handle going to witjout getting a tumor
just some advince, /metal/ has a boner for cheesy metal, don't be surprised when we start circlejerking ridiculously corny epic black, cheesy 80s NWOBHM or ridiculous j-metal
>gay and poppy
>edm chord progressions
You'd probably hate pic related ;^)
>I thought Animals as Leaders and Tesseract were pretty pleb
The fuck does that even mean
Try this and Uneven Structure
>"complicated," music made by untalented musicians
That's most, if not all of Djent desu, but Animals as Leaders are actually pretty talented musicians imo. They all shred, their music is just uninteresting.
Opinions on Sectu?
I'd say they're decent, above average, but not great. I'm gonna give them another listen, but so far I rate Inundate > Gerra > Nefarious
Damn captcha keeps refusing to load
Dunno what it was about Torture that made most of it so solid, Webster seems to be getting back into a great space for songwriting, most of Skeletal Domain was fresh feeling in comparisons to albums from the middle of their disc.
The post even said it was Mediocre, but the best of their Disc. dunno what you were expecting.
If you don't like Nu Metal in any shape or form, then fucking obviously you wouldn't like Iowa
Here, have some modern Nu Metal with djent
lmao this is awful
Any crylic bros want to translate this before I drop money on it to add to my collection of band shirts?
I really liked it until 0:22 through 0:26 happened, but so far after that there's been no hiccups of garbage interrupting the goodness. Of course with random interventions of "tech" tropes already present so soon into the song, I imagine the well is already poisoned.

you can google some parts, I don't get why it differs from the google versions, it's not quite correct but that's what I'm reading
>that entire pic
holy fuck mang
i remember a lot of IBM too
Post-black metal is essentially WiTTR-core
Blackgaze and Post-Black Metal are both major parts of Third Wave Black Metal.
Nothing, I said "tech tropes". I love tech, as long as it's good and original.
>wittr-core is ambient black
No it isn't, Darkspace is Ambient Black Metal, they're nothing alike
Any Black Metal with post-rock and post-metal influence is post-black metal.
WittR hs more in common with Explosions In The Sky than they do Aghast which is actual Ambient
Fucking PC leftist sjw bullshit but it's vice so I don't expect anything different
Comments almost made me lose hope before I realized it was vice
Thanks man, it'll be easier to find a translation now
European power metal can't compete, at least not anymore. It's largely devolved into an ironic scene of who can be the corniest and cheesiest with no passion in the actual music anymore.
>mfw they renamed genres
I'm pretty sure in like 2008 everyone was still calling it post black
they're very alike
for one thing, they're both ambient music based on black metal
if you showed these parts to someone who doesn't know anything about these bands they'd just say the production is different
Holy shit BT is so fucking based
Any DM bands that sound like Bolt Thrower?
incoming barrage of (yous) from galneryus and versailles fans
overrated as fuck operation mindcrime but no pic related
Because it dilutes an already watery grave. If the band themselves down call it that why in the hell would you? To feel more part of the creation or something? I just don't get it.
>when the genre whoring is too much
>liking a japanese band that isn't special makes you a weeb
if that's the case all coffins fans are weebs considering they're just really generic albeit good death metal
Admittedly, I didn't browse /metal/ much during that month, but I literally don't remember much shitposting until near the end. FIFH wasn't posting in /metal/ so that was already a huge improvement.
Literally every single /metal/ thread that I checked during NBBMN was like that. Granted, I only checked the general like five times during the month, but I don't think they were all just coincidences.
A lot of the time that vast array of adjectives is most easily combined to the genre. Is it melodic depressive black metal or black metal that is melodic and depressive? The only difference is that one has less words in the description.
Post your very favorite metal song of all time, if you could only pick one.
This one song single-handedly got me into death metal, back when Slayer and Pantera were the most extreme bands I listened to.
Abominable Putridity and Devourment (peace be upon them) are the two most essential slam bands.
Behead those who insult slam, inshallah.
i don't have a favorite but Jesus Tod is seriously up there, i don't even know how it's that good, it's a riff repeated over and over again with slight variations, but it's so hypnotising, and that guitar tone, man
>"Some might argue that the frontman has a right to sing about his beliefs, but there’s simply no room in our already fear-laden culture for any more xenophobia."
What do you guys think of this review? It's thing to criticize political lyrics, but from what I can tell, the lyrics are the ONLY think they didn't like about the album, which got a D. How much do you think people should weigh politics when evaluating the overall quality of an artistic statement? I think they went overboard here.
Is there a metal youtuber who's actually funny? Even ignoring how most "metal" comedians on youtube just do deathcore/djent shit (Jared Dines, Rob Scallon and Steveterryberry) is there one who can actually be funny instead of annoying?
>the lyrics are the ONLY think they didn't like about the album, which got a D
the dude is complaining about xenophobia of course he's an idiot who treats music this way
look at RYm for similar retardation
>How much do you think people should weigh politics when evaluating the overall quality of an artistic statement?
unless it's hip hop or other lyric based genres (inb4) then i don't think it should be use to criticize it that much, specially on metal where lyrics oftenly (NOT ALWAYS THO) don't matter and are just an after thought
i think it deserves to be acclaimed however if there' some actual insightful political/social implications in it though, like Zombie by Fela Kuti
I bet that whenever this guy gets anxious, his first instinct is to run home and watch Crash
anyway how do you guys like the music. I think it's worse than System, United, and Th1rt33n.
we all agree that italian is the best lenguage for grind, right
Yeah, metal fans overall seem to put less emphasis on lyrics than fans of other genres, so it seems reasonable that criticism of metal should focus more on other parts of the music. However, reviewers often disregard this because...
...as this guy points out, reviewers chronically default to analyzing lyrics. I think it's because music journalists necessarily work in an verbal medium, so the verbal elements of music are the easiest thing for them to engage.
that's because ''professional'' reviewers are just in it for the $$$ like most reviewers, you ether trust independent reviewers like Memetano and Scaruffi (and i'd advise you not to) or you trust yourself and try to have conversations with open minded people, which i'm fortunate enough to be able to have
>take a music class as an elective
>professor only talked about his personal feelings and interpretations of the pieces instead of any theory behind them
Pretty disappointing desu.
I got the album just a bit ago and finished listening to it literally just minutes ago and I gotta say the reviewer is a friggin idiot. Although Dave's conservatism kinda bugs me, his lyrics are obviously not to be taken seriously. He sings about things happening in the post apocalypse, I mean on Peace Sells he has a song about a conjuring ritual and another about a psycho killer and ANOTHER about playing Russian roulette. Has this reviewer never listened to metal before? Not all metal bands have to be extreme with their lyrics by any means but Megadeth has always had a provocative streak about them and from what I heard on Dystopia it doesn't sound any different than any other metal bands out there. The music was great, I really enjoyed the album quite a bit, and I think it'll be spinning constantly in my car stereo over the next several months.
Man i fucking love the bass on this, that beginning bassline is one of my favorites along with Blasphemy made Flesh, but goddamn most of it sounds like second rate Black Sabbath riffs but dirtier
>second rate Black Sabbath riffs
the actual guitar riffs themselves on that album yeah. The good parts of that album come in the various rhythm/tempo changes and the crazy vocals. Listen to the one after it, Take As Needed For Pain, that truly lives up to being sludge in every way.
Stop being a shit and listen to the whole thing instead of picking one part of it. Atonality shouldn't be a problem for another posting in this thread though; if it is gtfo metal.
I just found out Marcel gave The Inalienable Dreamless 5 stars
i feel raped
i've listening to it several times, it's a pretty solid album and yeah, the vocals really make the singer sound like a depressed drug addict which is fantastic
You said your music teacher, yes? That means you're taking music classes, yes? If so, you should know exactly what is going on when at comes to making atonal music in the vein of Schoenberg (still talking free atonality here not 12 tone); that there are certain rules he follows instead of just slamming hands down on the piano or something stupid like that.
Sounds like someone's not doing well in class as the concepts taught in your class have gone above your head.
Discordance Axis is pretty much grind for people who can't into grind so I am not surprised.
How the fuck is he pumping out decent new releases every month?
it was a basic music appreciation class not music theory and if it really matters I made a 92 because the class was basically a free A.
He said in a interview that he doesnt want to stop making music because you cant stop or some shit.
>Discordance Axis is pretty much grind for people who can't into grind so I am not surprised.
i don't get this, i've heard this a million times before and i still don't get it, it's about as heavy as all the classic grind bands (if not heavier) so what is the appeal of it to people who don't like grind? The cover? The lyrics?
i'm so confused
some sludge bands are actually original, Acid Bath, Stone Titan, Dystopia, Soylent Green, etc etc
Discordace Axis gets shit on now because they're "hipster-approved" even though they're still solid grind. It's almost as if people here prefer to judge bands by their fanbase- oh wait
Ahhh okay. Still though I would think your teacher would go over what Schoenberg was trying to do.
Their approach towards intensity in grind is similar to mathcore like Dillinger Escape Plan or Botch or something. It's a much easier style to get into than the typical grind which is a lot more raw and primitive sounding.
Discordance Axis is nowhere near as dissonant as Gorguts though, that comparison would be more apt for Gaza than anything
it's true that it was more technical and less formulaic than most grind, but still
I found it hard to get into, actually
it was an odd chance from Napalm Death and Insect Warfare to it, it just stroke me as odd at first, took me some listens (not that that takes long lmao) to finally ''get'' it
I just find it baffling honestly
It doesn't sound random at all though. Walk up to a keyboard one day and randomly hit stuff; it's nothing like atonal music. You just don't like it which is okay. Stravinksy's serial works are superior imo.
