THE FURYO STYLE IS IN MY BLOOD
KICK IN THE DESK
LEARN ON THE FLOOR
Post personal favorite metal album this decade so far. Post a sample song or bandcamp page or w/e, too so others are more motivated to check it out!
Mine's λόγος by Antediluvian. The kind of technical metal you see from Demilich//Gorguts/Deathspell combined with the occult feel of Incantation/Portal? I fucks with it.
Dimmu irritates me so much. It's like CoF in that it's jumping on the spoopy scary satanist bandwagon because it worked for the norwegians. At least they were committed, whereas these bands just use the imagery to make themselves look "scary", and they're perfect bands to attract girls with no taste who pretend they like black metal. The Jesus is a Cunt shirt is exactly the kind of juvenile name calling to provoke and attract attention that gives the metal scene as a whole a bad name.
tl;dr CoF and Dimmu are shit
well in the context of my reaction to a link that was posted, it sort of inevitably is. other people were posting their opinions, and my opinion's value is no greater or less than theirs
if you think i shouldn't be posting opinions at all because of who i am, that's rather rude really
What's your favorite album of the past 5 years?
For me this was 10/10
RIP In Solitude
>mfw i first hear this
Oh my fuck this is amazing. I didn't think synths could sound this beautiful.
Like I said on that post, λόγος by Antediluvian.
Antichrist - Sacrament Of Blood (reissue of something that should've been released 20 years ago so it doesn't count)
Hades Archer - For The Diabolical Ages
Divine Blasphemy - Beyond The Portal
Lantern - Below
Bolzer - Aura
Arguably an offspring from Pantera
Besides DT Pantera has a had a huge impact on all those bands
As bad as atmoshit is that's really the only part of metal Burzum has influenced. All the awful nu metal, metal/deathcore, djent, and "YOU TALKING TO ME?" groove bands have been influenced by Pantera
dungeon synth is /metal/ relevant
the term was invented by CLT just to show how people used music as an accessory to image. He made a list of arbitrary albums he liked and proclaimed them patrician and hoped he could string people along into thinking his endorsement meant anything. And it ended up succeeding beyond his wildest dreams.
born of osiris? odd choice. explain. i think The Contortionist have far more clones personally, and After the Burial and The Faceless beat BoO to the prog deathcore game
I'm not really a fan of the notion of "well neckbeard metalheads also enjoy and make this kind of music so it's /metal/ approved"
-core music is at least similar enough in style and intent to be actually relevant
dungeon synth is entirely not metal
S-senpai noticed me. I just tend to think of BoO as the forerunners of djent as it is today, leading the way for all the awful deathcore bands of the mid/late 2000s to morph into awful djent bands, effectively improving their viable lifespan as commercial entities by jumping bandwagons. You're right in that there's other bands also to blame, they were just the first to come to mind.
considering that most dungeon synth projects are side projects of established metal acts, and that the genre was basically started by varg's prison records, it makes sense to me to say it's relevant. especially considering that some dungeon synth artists still have BM elements such as vocals or occasional guitars
Does anyone know whether Nordvrede/their label Darker Than Black is ever gonna release this in a non-vinyl format?
I have only heard a track or two or previews from this album, and they seem fine, but I wanna be able to listen to the whole thing without getting a limited edition vinyl.
Periphery singlehandedly caused everything wrong with djent. Everything bad about djent is the fault of Periphery, more specifically Misha Mansoor. How unsurprising that he's related to John Petrucci from Dream Theater, his uncle helped set the stage for everything wrong with progressive music so Misha could put the final nail in the coffin.
BOO didn't introduce djent in their sound until The Discovery. Rareform did that back in '08. If you're going to blame anyone for the existence of djent, anyways, it's Periphery or Textures. And I can't think of many mid-00s deathcore bands that went djent. Like, maybe Whitechapel's recent stuff qualifies, but more of them went towards generic Nuclear Blast-y DM (see Annotations of an Autopsy and JFAC's first couple post-Doom releases)
I think Slayer's evolution from this to their Hell Awaits/RiB sound is fascinating
Why was this album such a disappointment?
>decide to use plenty of fish
>"What are your interests?"
Black metal, nationalism, european history. horror movies
>Describe your first date
"We'll fuck in the backseat of my car or something desu"
It's cool and I like how incredibly heavy it is, but the songs don't really go anywhere. I feel like I've listened to Extirpation Agenda five times already.
Badass music but I can't think of any song that stands out.
This is the best damn band in heavy metal, and if anyone talks shit I'll give them a good old-fashioned Texas-style thrashing.
Is this a band tee?
>just messaged me
God-tier: Tech death/grind/thrash, doom
Great-tier: Power, prog, 2nd wave black
Ok tier: Ordinary death/grind/thrash, heavy, speed
Low tier: Metalcore, melodeath, atmosludge
Shit tier: Atmoshit
Irredeemable shit tier: post metal
>tfw you meet a cute girl in your engineering mathematics course who's in your res so you invite her over one night to smoke and chill and she ends up being a huge fan of death, doom, and drone metal so you sit there and discuss your favourite bands for like 2 hours while listening to earth
music for this feel?
>whining about violence
I'm more than certain Cannibal Corpse were threatened with death, and they almost got Allahu Ackbar'd one time. But they don't whine to a magazine about it.
>WAAAH DEY WAS SO MEAN TO US :'^(((((((
so I decided to listen to this shit because of last thread and it literally sounds exactly like bergtatt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaX-xAhTIcY
>So many people in my country [Denmark] have been told to not talk about their culture. In the last few years attitudes have changed. Young people in Denmark are embracing their heritage and I'm happy to be part of it.
>that bit on denmark nationalism
>literally telling people to kill themselves for not liking her
POST WHAT TRIGGERS YOU
>listen to album
>like 3 or 4 songs
>the rest are boring and samey
If I can't enjoy at least half the album I won't even bother with the good songs.
>female vocals are just deep forced growls
sk8 or die
actually you know what i'm gonna do that thing dmsg does cause it's kinda fun
5/10 basically just a rip off of ENT and super early grindcore shit
6/10 unpopular opinion but not as good as mercenary
7/10 very fuckin catchy
6/10 good halo of flies core. good start to 2016 metal
6/10 hellenic bm is not my thing but it scratches a certain itch
6/10 still fuckin bolt thrower
8/10 really what i want out of blackthrash
8/10 best late BT
7/10: very cool, first listen actually
4/10 like a pentagram but not good and with harsh vox
6/10 interesting how much more groove this album has. also pretty obvious how this was the blueprint for harms way
7/10 better than swamp thing
4/10 fuckin boring man im sorry
7/10 good riffs
7/10 less interesting on the 2nd listen but good
8/10 still like swarth better
5/10 much less interesting on the second listen but cool for what it is. just wish they didn't use the same chug rhythm throughout
9/10 primus does death metal i love it
8/10 compositionally v sound mories can phone it in on that aspect sometimes. better than NV
8/10 fuck you i like it
I'm not gonna rate all these right now, too close to bed time
>album is 1 hour 20 mins long
>only the first song is good
glad to see other people doing this. it makes a lot of sense imo - helps to point out stuff you tried and didn't like, and by narrowing things down makes it more useful as a recommendation tool
as for me, mostly same as last time - about the new stuff though:
Hollow is 6/10. some strong moments especially during solos but leans oddly hard on the chugprog cliches which is odd since it seemed more oldschool from the cover
It Prevail is solid 6/10, for fans of Misery Signals. Not memorable but very feelsy
Maestrick is 8/10, was really highly impressed by it. Power/prog but incredibly colorful and diverse. Long track at the end drags a bit but what metal bands can actually pull off a 21-minute track well?
Thunder Way was 7/10, very good musicianship and production but tracks feel a bit padded. One riff reminded me oddly of Galneryus, lol
Nawather is sort of Myrath-ish but much more riffy and engaging. Still 5/10, but could go up.
Ethernity is 1/10. Ugh. Awful chugpower. Same with Nathania.
Orphan Gypsy is pure power metal and a really amazing example of it, the melodic sense feels a bit Lost Horizon-ish at times even... 8/10.
Aseptic White Age was like a less spazzy Ephel Duath, mixed with some of Leprous' style. Pretty neat atmosphere and use of noise, but sort of cliche jazz metal otherwise - 4/10. Leprous fans may like though.
I really gotta listen to that cthe'ilish album
if you like Old school DM you'd probably like Shub-Niggurath
I'm only gonna mention the albums I liked on my chart
Both absu albums were certified dank
Tormentor is my shit and I wish attila would have kept doing that vocal shit on DMDS
That morbid angel album has a 10/10 first track but the rest is kinda meh
Imperial triumphant was better than I was led to believe
Hades is fucking perfect
Deus volt uknowwhati'msayin
twilightfall is super underrated
bathory is bathory
I has some dank riffs and considered dead is my fav gorguts album because i'm a contrarian
Has anyone given this a listen? It makes my pant really wet
The part at 5:00 where he builds up from a mutter to a scream is totally nu-metal as fuck but the way he does it makes it seem legitimately deranged and furious
kyo is incredible
I'm not the only one who noticed it. Shit, his growls are wonderful on that. On The Satanist he sounds raspy as fuck
>mutter to a scream is nu-metal as fuck
What the hell does that mean? Just sounds like good build up to me.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I like his vocals on the satanist too, but he sounds like an otherwordly being on the older albums
I like it so far, it's nice to be able to hear the bass
A lot of death metal I try listening to is either too focused on being br00tal to the point that there is no melody OR too focused on technicality and playing as many random notes as possible. The only modern death metal band I enjoy listening to is Immolation.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention I like Behemoth and Be'Lakor. I have tried a lot of melodic death metal but it typically sounds like watered down death metal. I will try In Vain and Ne Obliviscaris. If I had a consistent way of finding new bands that would help.
>Put on rise of the north star on at uni computer
>get busy doing something
>some hardcore band starts playing
>this is pretty good
There is just something about most female screamers that just sounds so fucking shit
It's not derivitive if they were the OG behind all of the deathcore riffing, yes I know they were influenced by at the gates at the start, but nocturnal was another blueprint album riff-wise, only this time for deathcore, even though they aren't core themselves
Any music that's exactly like the intro? That 90s clean jazzy guitar tone makes my dick hard.
>inb4 complete jazz wankery
I like them.
Got to see them back in 2001 when they came to town, one of their last shows together as a band with Slayer, Morbid Angel, Static X and some shitter band called Scrape on the Reinventing the Steel tour.
Years later I found online some guy in Canada of all places had the bootleg of the Pantera and Slayer sets of the show I was at, the audio isn't that great but I can hear myself yelling in a few parts.
Yeah, I'm actually looking for something that's Textures - the album, though a lot darker with diminished chords akin to death metal.
He's good, but not what I'm looking for.
Antestor got pounded by a mob in HUEHUE-land
This is a beast of a song. Why does no one talk about this album?
I don't usually listen to a lot of metal but this morning I put on Bergtatt by Ulver. I thought it was really good and it was honestly the opposite of what I anticipated Black Metal to sound like. Anything else like this?
Also, I like Opeth...are they well respected in /metal/ ? Blackwater Park used to be one of my most played albums
They're not well-respected in /metal/. I personally love them. Well, the old them.
I think you might dig this as far as Black Metal is concerned
Thanks, I'll check out that Satyricon album!
Yeah, I like the older albums from Opeth like Morningrise and Still Life...not that much into the more proggy stuff they've put out recently
It's tough to say, but I'd go either with Agalloch or Vintersorg. In terms of overall atmosphere.
In most internet circles, they're not well respected from my experience. It's mostly due to their prog rock influences in their songwriting, it's more drawn out and emphasizes melody and tone over riffs and structure. However, they're still one of my favorite bands. They have such a unique sound and execution that makes me go wild.
I personally love Opeth... as long as we aren't talking about recent Opeth (ugh)
The only reason I can't get into Akercocke is the fucking singer. You know the sound people make when they make fun of death growls? Yeah, the singer sounds exactly like that.
So I just witnessed a metal thread on /b/ where people posted albums, rec's, were generally nice to each other and didn't shitpost.
How does it feel to know that we are worse than /b/?
I'd rather listen to hipster atmoshit black metal than YO DAWG PANTURA or post-Reroute To Remain Melodic Metalcore, flippy-hair skinnyjean core, or GENERIC WIGGER SLAM GURGURGLRGLRLG
Can we all agree that memesludge is the worst subgenre, second only to atmoblack and atmosludge?
I'm enjoying the fuck out of this. Thanks to the Anon who posted it a few threads back. Great balance of melody and thrash. I like how they added just a little sprinkling of clean vocals.
What cunt thought this was a good idea?
No idea why people just think of two genres and convince themselves that mixing the two would be a good idea, no matter how far removed one may be from the other.
tl;dr euthanise whoever made this dreck
Quality debate, senpais
This is fucking amazing you guys. If you haven't jammed it yet go and do it right fucking now. DM AOTY in january Im not even kidding
>preferably not one of the big bands I've heard
No, because there were no elements of a debate presented. It was simply straight-forward disagreement.
This format does not qualify as a debate.
Adding to that, I said "There was no debate.", which is past tense. You are saying I said "There can be no debate". That is asserting a lie, changing the battlefield to win a debate that you believe to have engaged in.
I don't submit to your debate, or your desire to hold one. The cards you play are cheap, and obvious.
Same here, I was just shitposting because I hate them. I hereby declare this shitposting adjourned.
Thank you for not mentioning Blakemistycum
part of /metal/'s charm is the shitposting and memes senpai
