ITT: We post hate for vinyl and vinylfags.

Shit Vinylfags Say:
>It sounds warmer.
>You appreciate music more if you actually go through the effort if looking for it. Having all of your music available at the click of a button has had a detrimental effect of people's appreciation of music.
>Vinyl actually encourages you to listen to the full album in its proper trackorder instead of being a pleb who only listens to single songs.
>You're using a Crosley? With NO COUNTERWEIGHT?!?!?! Have fun ruining all of your records.
>Vinyl is killing the mp3 industry!
>Life has surface noise!
>Wow you sure are a butthurt poorfag about the fact you can't afford vinyl. Sour grapes much?
>I just like collecting it for the artwork.

Your life must be extra empty if you can find the time to come and shit on the things other people are using to enjoy their time on this earth. Perhaps you should look into fixing that

>Then you appreciate the music less.
What?

>Also, CDs are fairly susceptible to scratched and nicks, making them unplayable
Unless you handle your CDs like a retard, you will never scratch them and it takes a shitload of damage for a CD to be unplayable. Consider this: I can buy an old-ass CD off the internet and don't have to worry about the condition of the disc itself at all.
>>
Pretty cool, right? I love all my vinyl ("vinyl" is the plural of vinyl :;:;:o) and the big ol pictures they come with. I really just look at the pictures, honestly. I haven't listened to any of these.
>>
>>61901852
>What?
If it degrades, it creates scarcity; scarcity creates value. You will cherish every minute you hear knowing it won't last.

>>61901852
>Unless you handle your CDs like a retard
Same logic applies for LPs. If you handle them carefully, they'll be fine.
>Consider this: I can buy an old-ass CD off the internet and don't have to worry about the condition of the disc itself at all.
Wow they must really be valuable.
>>

What a retarded mindset. What actually happens is that you treat music as disposable and temporary instead of something that will last you your whole lifetime.

>If you handle them carefully, they'll be fine.
Incorrect. If a vinyl is regularly played, it will inevitable get worse as time goes on. This is why the condition of old vinyl records is extremely important and unplayed stuff inflates dramatically in value.

>Wow they must really be valuable.
There are a ton of old bargain bin CDs that work perfectly.

VINYL

1. Superior sound quality
2. Collectable
3. Exists in the corporeal realm
4. Can be sold
5. Make great frisbees
6. Pleasant psychological effect of owning plastic discs
7. Reproduces the actual recorded wave rather than an interpretation of it
8. Better dynamic range
9. Wider frequency response
10. Perfectly reproduces the pops and clicks CD and digital can't capture
11. Warmth
12. Isn't sterile and doesn't smell of disinfectant like digital does
13. Did I mention superior sound quality?
14. Infinite sound resolution
15. Digital = Literally Hitler
16. It's literally the only way to listen to music if you're serious about music and not just a poseur
17. Enjoy listening to digital on your $1 store headphones (or maybe your $20 skullcandies if you're *really* extravagant) and your phone
18. Objectively superior sound quality

I just think vinyl is a nifty format to own music on, because it sounds just as good as digital even though it's a pretty damn old technology (and analog at that)

I mean how cool is it that you can scratch some shit in a disk and have it be music?

I just can't afford/have room for a record setup right now. But when I do...man it's gonna be ebin.

Don't even give a fuck if it makes me cancer, it's still nice to own physical music rather than pirating everything desu senpai.

I also bought a cassette recently. I have a cassette player in my car though, so it balances out.

Life is too short.

I just buy records I like every once in a while that aren't over priced. I think it's a fair deal, and then when I hang out with people who have more than Crosley shit, we can play them and it's great.

believe me I'm poor as shit. I haven't bought a record in a while now because of that.

In fairness, I collect some vinyl, but I'm sure that guy could provide a lot better for his family if he wasn't blowing his cash on a fetishised consumer product.

If he's wealthy, then he can do whatever he likes, but it doesn't look like he's very wealthy considering the piled up boxes in the righthand side of the picture.

I cut way back on my collecting when I realised how it was kind of an addiction. Looking for first pressings as if it mattered and trying to complete catalogues. I was down a fortune. This guy looks like it might be a bit of a pathological obsession for him. He probably enjoys seeking out the records more than actually listening to them.

Now I'll buy stuff that you can't find online, or weird rare short-run stuff from decades ago, or small/local bands.

>7. Reproduces the actual recorded wave rather than an interpretation of it
It doesn't, actually.
Vinyl, like tape, has its limits, and music needs to be mastered for it.
>>
>>61902946
You should get a turntable
>>
as someone who can't afford vinyl i really don't see why you care. i'd gladly partake in it for that last one.

Not to mention that literally every pressing company uses digital masters to press the records.

theoretically vinyl records have no limit.

Anyone who hates or loves one particular format and only that particular format is an idiot. While some genres bode well when presented one way vs another (ie: don't listen to classical or jazz on cassette or don't listen to bass-heavy music such as hip hop on vinyl if you want an optimal listening experience) saying "____ is a trash format" is a pleb opinion.
>>
LP's will remain a viable format until the dipshit "record industry" stops their Loudness War mastering practices, which isn't happening anytime soon considering most music is now listened to on shitty earbuds, computer speakers, and smartphone speakers.

"Hi-Res" audio is further snake oil bullshit. Bit depth won't save a bad master.

Oh, and for those that think that modern vinyl is mastered and cut no differently than a modern CD, think again:

https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,98199.0.html

(note: There are exceptions, as always).

Vinyl will inadvertently sound "better" in these cases because its limited dynamic range can't allow excessive brickwall limiting.
>>
It gives me an excuse to go and do shit
It's fun hanging out in record stores
I like the anticipation of saving up money or waiting for something to come in the mail
Colored vinyl can look really pretty
It makes you give a shit, unlike CDs which normally get looked at once, go in the computer then go on the shelf forever, or MP3s where there's nothing to look at or manipulate at all
iunno unexplainable magic or some autistic shit like that
>>
>>61909500
The theoretical limit for vinyl is about 13 bits of signal to noise ratio.

honestly records are confusing with the time limit. most people say 18-22 minutes is good, but some jazz albums go up to over half an hour (The Epic, a lot of Miles Davis albums) and sound fine
>>
>>61912792
Yes, the frequency range is getting worse towards the center of the record.
I forgot the actual numbers but the innermost ring has something like 12 kHz at most
>>
Tell me one reason to buy vinyl except for hipsters points among literal faggots

Pro-tip: you cannot tell me even one reason

Digital fags are salty shits too.
>FLAC is better and despite having old or damaged ears, I can really hear the difference
>digital storing is more practical, safer and better for long time conservation
>I don't stream because of the poor quality
>it's great to have my music stored so I can listen to high quality audio on the go on my phone and small headphones or earbuds

we're all salty shits anyway

CDs have a much better signal-to-noise ratio and less distortion. Vinyl is factually inferior.
