Segall is one of those artists I always feel obligated to check out even when their output is hit-or-miss. The lows (and they're common) are outweighed when he releases something like 'Emotional Mugger'. Stupidly fun riffs, funky ass drums, great hooks. Those last few tracks are a cruddy note to end on, but those first eight tracks are killer.

Same. I have the same feeling about Thee Oh Sees or Sic Alps or a lot of that West Coast garage revival stuff. It's never actively bad, at worst it's just repetitive, but at least there are occasional gems.

Sleeper and now Mugger are great. Melted's up there too. I didn't care for Manipulator, but a bunch of people did. Only pursue the rest if you liked those.
