op your that 16 year old insecure loser who doesn't want to do anything out of the ordinary for fear of attracting unnecessary attention but you desperately want all the attention. have fun with hearing loss

not op but wtf? do people actually wear earplugs to prevent hearing loss?

why the fuck are you watching live music? the point is to have loud music blasted in your face while your tripping
>>
>>61879531
Did that for years, definitely regret it now.
Death grips fucked my hearing for about 4 days because I forgot earplugs.

Considering the fact that I would likely become deeply depressed if I DID develop tinnitus, or even go deaf, I'm not risking it.

Again, enjoy hearing loss.

i dont wear earplugs normally but DG is a show i wish i did. had ringing for 2-3 days straight (luckily that was the only time that ever happened)

SAGE

OP if you are serious go kill yourself. Most concerts don't even sound that great, and I would rather cut out some of the upper frequencies than have tinnitus. I went to a super loud show w/o earplugs once and had BAD ringing for a few days after, that was too foreboding to repeat.
>>
>>61879714

you should probably go to more concerts then. and wear earplugs

>>61879815
No, if there's a band where it's worth it to not wear earplugs it's Godspeed. Very well mixed, loud but not too loud, your ears won't be ringing or anything.
>>
Saw deafheaven like a month ago and wish I wore plugs. First concert I've felt that way for tho. Plus got rubbed by a couple edgy ugly ppl so overall a bad experience maybe a 6.5/10

I don't really see why it's really that big of a deal if you wear plugs or not. It's not like it really ruins the sound by that much, or really at all.

Every concert I've ever been to, with an exceptional few, I wore plugs to. Didn't ruin the experience for me at all, still had a great time. For a good bit of the concerts, I would occasionally take out an earplug to see the difference, and all it did was make my ears ring (guess because my ears are more sensitive than others). After I would see the minor difference, I put them back in and enjoy the remainder of the concert where I notice no difference.

It's just blocking out the noise, not the music.

But if you want to be deaf when you get older and go to concerts all the time, then be my guest.

>>61879815
I saw them in September, was pretty loud.

Also be prepared to be memorized.
>>
>>61879954
Yea I high fived him

Maybe they sound like black metal but he is the ballsy rock frontman that indie music has been waiting for
>>
You literally cannot attend a My Bloody Valentine show in its entirety without plugs. Seriously, its so loud some people go into shock even with plugs.
>>
lmao when you wear headphones your bitch ass prob listens to shit on like 50 volume
>>
People who don't have tinnitus don't really understand what it is until they have it.

It will never stop.
It will never go away.
If particular frequencies outside your window aggravate it, it can wake you up.
It can *only* get worse, there is no cure.
You will never be able to hear silence ever again.

That last one is something you can't possibly understand until it happens to you. I've had tinnitus since I was ~7 years old. I used to still have memories of what silence was like, but they've gone away over the years. I don't even know what silence sounds like anymore. Is there anyone seriously willing to impart with peace forever for the briefly, slightly increased experience of damage-causing decibels in a few handfuls of concerts?
>>
>>61879714

They are the loudest band I've ever heard, (in 2011), and they've actually gotten a lot quieter. Death Grips and Swans were both p. loud though.
>>
>>61879976
>t's not like it really ruins the sound by that much, or really at all.
it does. it unevenly cancels out many frequencies while doing nothing to others.if it simply quieted all sound uniformly sure. wearing earplugs would be fine. but in actuallity you are missing outand getting a bad mix of sound. i feel lke only people who dont understand the physics of sound wear them.

What a stupid fucking thread. As mentioned above, you can get earplugs that simply lower the decibels that reach your eardrums and don't distort the sound. I've been to a lot of concerts and I didn't wear earplugs and my hearing is NOT as good as it used to be. It's not terribly worse, but why the fuck not just wear earplugs, jfc.
>>
This seems like the thread to ask

Are Swans or Sunn louder? Swans always top the lists at around 140 db, but Sunn are never included because they're more obscure, and I always hear of people getting nosebleeds and shit due to the volume and frequencies at Sunn shows.
I've only seen Swans so I can't compare the two.

OP has obviously never worn earplugs at a concert

In most concerts, the high volume ones, the music sounds LOADS better through earplugs
Like fucking leaps and bounds better. You can actually hear the individual parts instead of just the mashed up blurred together sound that is dangerous levels of air pressure.

ever wonder why all the guys playing on stage are wearing hearing protection? or an iem that doubles as hearing protection? its not just so they preserve their hearing but so they can hear each other and themselves. even foam earplugs go a long way towards helping you monitor your own playing and the rest of your band

wearing simple foam earplugs is WAY cooler than being that guy with his fingers in his ears so he can hear the parts distinctly.
I'm sure anybody who's ever played drums can attest to the fact that they sound way better with earplugs in

tl;dr the plugs aren't just for hearing protection, they make loud music sound better
>>

So many pussies ITT

If you stand some simple music, get the fuck over it and buy some Pampers, you children.

I've been to fucking 25 concerts and I never wear fucking earplugs. Why waste money if you can't enjoy the true sound? Idiots. I bet you were the same kids to wear helmets and knee pads when you skateboarded.

hell brian chippendale wears plugs AND headphones. I've seen Lightning Bolt without ear plugs bc I forgot to bring em. This was a horrible, horrible mistake.

Only retard teenagers think it makes you look "lame".

>>61879904
I go to like 4 shows a week
>>
>>61880089
This so much. It's especially hard during the evenings when I'm trying to fall asleep, that's why I usually have a show playing in the background just to mask the noise.

I developed mine playing in a punk band when I was earlier, we practiced loud and played loud and I certainly regret not wearing earplugs then.
>>
>>61880089
this

I've had my entire life and I've only been able to experience silence briefly by doing that "cover your ears and tap your head" bullshit. I have to have some kind of noise at all times or else all I can hear is ringing. Can't really get high ever because it becomes exponentially louder and disorienting.
>>
>>61881783
>25 concert

>>
>>61881907

>>
>>61880799
Sunn is both louder and lower. The combination of extreme volumes and extreme frequencies will FUCK YOU UP, to the point that I didn't even go WITH ear plugs. That shit just isn't worth it.

Never worn headphones.

Been to hundreds of concerts over the years.

No issues thus far besides the odd ringing noise (which we all get)

Don't let these pussies scare you, op. It's all just wivestales to make kids look stupid. You won't have hearing loss from going to a concert unless you're retarded and go right up to the speaker. LOL
>>
>>61881783
>25 CONCERTS NERDS

I go to multiple shows a week and regularly book/play them as well. You're a fucking retard.
>>
why do they need to play music as loud as they do? it's fucking absurd. i honestly can't stand to be in a live environment because without plugs the sound mixer thinks the right levels are when your ears are blown to pieces.
live music is 4 plebs.

Scientific American had an article about frequency specific hearing loss. Might be an effect too. But volume varies depending on the venue, even with them. I'm bringing some ear buds when I go to see them in Copenhagen, so if it's really loud then I can fix it.
