>new Megadeth comes out on the same day as Dream Theater
What does that mean?
New Oranssi Pazuzu, get hype boys
While prog is a very self-serving genre and being self-serving isn't inherently bad, Dream Theater represent the worst of a genre already filled with self-indulgent expressionism. Dream Theater are not as fun as Gentle Giant or Genesis, are not as good songwriters as Pink Floyd or Porcupine Tree, nor as adventurous as Can or King Crimson. The only thing this prog band really has going for them is their technical exhibitionism and histrionics. However, much like Rush, this is merely a front to hide just how ordinary and uninspired their music is much. While the members of Dream Theater are more than capable of playing, the ability to play something worthwhile is a trait that is lost on the group. And it is this that makes Dream Theater experienced, yet so amateur.
revisited this, still has such awesome riffs and solos
the lyrics and concept are absolutely hilarious tho
What's some experimental metal that remains on the extreme end of things? Or extreme metal that is sincerely experimental?
What do you think?
I love it, but it's too short even for a grindcore album.
guy sounds like a gorilla but it's so damn good
Cloak of Alterat(ion/ing) is like a stripped back GTT with more electronics and drum beats. Pretty hellish, but not as suffocating as GTT.
Aderlating is mostly noise and spooky atmospheres, not too too metal, but fans of Mories would get it
Why don't you liek me, /meal/? I thought i was your Aryan princess
>Fuck off list:
>Black metal ‘elitest’ kids who have not been able to grasp or show the real essence of intolerance, nihilism and hatred in their REAL lives away from the internet, yet these ‘individuals’ claim to be some part of some ‘elite’ black metal movement that has not left any scar on humanity, these are the same people who use black metal as their crutch! I would expect some dead bodies lying around at their feet by now based on how fast they run their ‘evil’ mouths! Return to the ‘subculture’ scene that rejected you or salvage some dignity and shut the fuck up. Your need for human love and acceptance by your peers (and others) sickens me! Your epitaph will be a bar code. You know who you are yet you’ve forgotten you’re really nothing, I know who you are. These teenage scene veterans’ (a contradiction) need their fucking faces smashed in to teach them the meaning of respect and honor. With all that said, I just might hate you as much as I hate those normal human beings in the light world, I never thought it would come to this. You have once or twice judged me, now it’s my turn.
was he talking about us lads
>Young people in Denmark are embracing their heritage and I'm happy to be part of that. I get emails from big bands thanking me for celebrating my heritage.
What are you hype for this year?
Full of Hell / The Body
There's probably more. I also hope Converge and Deathspell release something but who knows.
Church of Misery
new ColdWorld too? great
this desu, been waiting for a new twilight force release since listening to tales of ancient prophecies for about 20 times
I'm not even into power metal that much, only bands I listen to are Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian and Lost Horizon, but Twilight Force is fucking fantastic.
+++Obscure Frog Croaks, Bathory, I, Nokturnal Mortum
+Absu, Gorguts, best Morbid Angel
is that murg album good?
is weapon good?
I don't know senpai, I listen to a lot of prog and power metal, Angra, Symphony, Blind Guardian, Opeth, I really like it but I've been trying to get into more harsh things, there is like a rush when I listen to music like this one >>61880901, I'm looking for albums like that one, the unintelligible lyrics and the fast music, I just love that shit but really don't know what else to listen to since I've been listening to weak stuff for so long. What is the name of that? Death black metal?
I might have read you totally wrong but I think you might enjoy this. Very harsh but still with a big-ass chorus and a well-produced sound overall
Not brutal death metal. As a side note, brutal death metal and technical death metal are ruining death metal. "Look how Br00tal I sound xD" "Lel look how many random notes I can play!"
DT is just awful
>blood stain child
I think I puked in my mouth
brutal never has a melody. Melody means its not br00tal enough
>brutal death metal and technical death metal are ruining death metal.
I would have said those things were quietly rolling along as niche genres for people who want them, while 'muh occult osdm revival cthulhucore' bullshit is trying its hardest to ruin normal death metal
>mfw one of the captcha signs was 'Gaylord Avenue'
Smart and dumb people listen to pop. Smart and dumb people listen to metal. Having better taste isn't correlated with being smarter, it is correlated with knowing more about music.
3/10, not as memorable as the previous and their violinist never catches my attention
5/10, awesome instrumentals but operatic female vocals are a turnoff
4/10, great runescape synth melodies, boring chug riffs
2/10, i should stop assuming chinese people can't make incredibly generic europower
7/10, pretty damn strong, unusual songwriting. fans of labyrinth will like
6/10, a bit more colorful than the previous but doesn't have that cool mood
6/10, no idea why i like this. solos are pretty ebin tho
8/10, awesome old-school power/heavy from Italy, the dumb occasional synth here and there but mostly just good riffing and songwriting
6/10, disappointing considering the talent here, too much like galneryus b-sides
8/10, amazing straight-up j-power
6/10, tries to do too many things but both the power/prog and power/trance tracks own... vocals feel like an afterthought tho
7/10, very sparse and abstract prog, for some reason i dig this sound
6/10, surprised this wasn't generic really fast BDM, lots of tremolo work here with a Morbid Angel-ish malevolent feeling
7/10, futurepop/power metal. yes.
5/10, if you can get over how lame this is, the actual power metal bits are very good. prog parts need work
8/10, more awesomeness from japan, very diverse
2/10, boring brazilian PM
8/10, almost as good as Light Bringer
3/10, not horrible just extremely unengaging
7/10, objectively generic but Circa Survive-core is something i always need more of
6/10, pretty serviceable heavy/power with maybe a bit too much groove
7/10, need more time to digest but there's some parts here that have this distant and impassive emotionality that reminds me of autechre. good use of cyber synths.
2/10, norwegian prog power, need i say more
6/10, i wish this was more Ancient Aliens-core and less generic BDM - Indonesia's take on Born of Osiris would be very entertaining to hear. cool cover tho (not this version, the cover on rym)
Hey dm, you once shared an album by a band called Monolith: it was either funeral doom or drone, about the history of mankind or something?
Did they have a bandcamp page or something?
Monolithe. And their stuff is available on Debemur Morti. Their later stuff leans more progressive than funeral, or if it's funeral it's funeral with a fuckload of time changes and transitions
i recall being disappointed that they were fairly generic, since most stuff from japan isn't very generic
the metalcore scene seems to be an exception though. i mean there's good bands like nocturnal bloodlust and bilo'u but so much trancecore crap... it's all tagged terribly too, on jpopsuki or other torrent sites they tag it all as "screamo" and then NOPE it turns out to be autotunecore
New Pyrrhon When when when come on Doug and Dylan
Listening to this with my boyfriend right now, it's his first time listening to them.
(._.) tfw he says they sound like metal sublime
the standard answer would be that they have metal aesthetics but pop song structures. Which is bullshit because it would mean everything before the late 80s didn't count as metal
as a slipknot fan they are not metal OP only reason i even came into this thread is your image caught my eye then i saw what sort of thread it was and was irritated with you
tldr fan of slipknot but they are not metal
they are simply not at best they are nu metal i mean their singer isnt even a real metal vocalist he is a butt rock vocalist who happened to be better than the original ((who sucked shit through a straw BTW))
korn totally ripped off that art style for one of the issues covers
are wer sure its nu metal and not theif metal? korn sucks BTW worst band to ever make it to 6 albums if you like korn you have 0 taste fuck you
earlier slipknot has enough metal elements that it's disingenuous to call them metal and not, say, mid-era dir en grey. people disavow them because they don't want something they dislike to be associated with metal because it somehow insults the term, but they're not looking at it as a descriptive term.
anyways, the riffs don't really use tremolo or the same cadences as death metal riffs but they have a similar grindy and high-tempo attack. it's more the nu-metal soft/loud dynamic that's different, and even then prog metal does that (albeit very differently). oh and the scratching and rapping is pretty non-metal but i can think of some wiggery BDM bands that did that, like Fate and Dripping. so. hard to really say if any one thing in particular makes them "not metal" but they are certainly not a death metal band.
maybe if i heard their initial demo album or whatever, i might feel differently about that one. i hear it's much more harsh
in practical terms how would you embrace the essence of intolerance and hatred in real life? Say you work 9 hours a day in a warehouse, do you have to find a Jew after work and give them the eye for a couple of hours before you go home to bed? Do these faggots have any connection with real life?
never cared for em much but Black Diamond is sort of an undeniable classic. Same sort of thing as Eagle Fly Free, the band as a whole isn't very interesting to me but in small doses their best material kicks ass
holy shit new track
sounds great, hope the new album is just as good
>tfw triggered the fuck out of some poor argentinian girl by proxy, passing Anglo supremacist messages through her bf on goybook
>tfw I don't know why I do this, I'm just compelled to give people shit
>tfw not even australian so no excuse
metal for knowing you're an annoying cunt?
I still think this is bullshit. BM is more emotional' like car advert music is emotional, superficially feely. DM has emotion built in from the ground up even when its aesthetic isn't obviously that way.
You know, with Garm producing her album and one of the Amott brothers doing guitars, one would think she'd solidified her legitimacy in the metal community...
how does one fuck up that bad?
BM feels more emotional because of how fucked up the artists are. You either get your church burners, your neo-nazis, or your teetering-on-suicide mental patients. You hear many stories of black metal musicians killing people or doing shit like eating raw rodents on stage but death metal is devoid of a lot of that. Lots of death metal bands that involve the band members even doing fucked up things are part black metal as well (Goatlord, Blasphemy, Necrophobic). This passion really can be seen as an emotional investment in the genre, a love for fucked up shit so much that you either become or already are a really fucked up person. Compare that to death metal where your average musician is probably working a blue collar job but uses his music to pass the time with friends.
Because of the fashion videos she has done as Myrkur, it's kind of obvious that she's not interested in being in the black metal world as a black metal musician. She's pretty much the female equivalent of Deafheaven except that Deafheaven do everything themselves.
Interesting music comes from interesting persons.
that girl is just superficial, shallow and boring.
the load of cum garm shot into her probably had more passion than she'll ever have
yeah I already had a power metal phase.
but once depression hits it's pretty hard to go back to just having some fun anymore.
I might even be a bit envious of pm fans since they certainly have something I don't
I have sever depression and PM is the only thing that gives me joy anymore.
When the kite string pops and I'm swallowed whole by the sky, I just pop five power metal albums on my playlist and go on a shitposting binge.
Makes me feel alive again.
good for you.
Art usually works as catharsis for me, so I surround myself with stuff that reflects my current mood to get rid of it again.
which means I can't really listen to pm 'cause it would just rid me from the little fun I might have left
>implying I'm clicking that
some truth in this >>61883738
but also because black metal has a lot of focus on image and dress codes, and girls just really, really like to dress up. The music's just a side product.
Death metal has no feminine value whatsoever, baggy combat pants and sweaty band shirts, songs about fucking rotting corpses and vomit, generally uglier musicians compared to black metallers.
While there are grills in both worlds, granted a lot more in black metal, death metal gets all the weird slutty fat chicks that do anal and give really good blow jobs, whereas black metal gets the really fucking hot ones with corsets and leather pants and makeup and shit, but only like missionary, eye contact and no oral whatsoever.
I'm generalizing naturally, but that's what experience has shown me.
the fact that bm girls are the hot hangers-on while dm girls are the nasty village bikes just makes me love death metal all the more. Nothing beats a rut behind the amps and a pint of snakebite
>None of my friends want to burn churches and I'm too nervous to go alone
Kiko's solos are looking kinda shitty right now, Dave's solos are the same solos he's done since 85, I hope Adler brings some Menza heavy drumming to the table.
Other than that it's gearing up to be the best one since UA.
I might be severely wrong tho.
Implying this wasn't the most mature and proficient nu-metal out of all those shitty 90s bands.
>Korn got really shitty after the second album
>Slipknot as well
>Bizkit were always wiggers trying to make party music
>Mudvayne had one acceptable album
Wait. Her first ever show was at an international music festival?
We're getting played here
