If you can't see how David Bowie is extremely similar to Kanye West you have no business ever discussing music
>not the true Bowie successor
Kanye is a hack who gets other people to do all this work for him
Fucking rekted kek. What a fucking loser. How untalented do you need to be to have a 100 fucking people make an album for you.
The music might be decent, by Kayne is a musician in image only
>If you can't see how David Bowie is extremely similar to Kanye West
[not true by the way]
just fuck off

All language driven art is inherently narcissistic you pigtripfuck.
If you think your creativity is worth expressing then you are by definition self-centered.
There is no art for art's sake.
Kanye did not age well with me as I got older.
(I'm barely an adult)
but even with the few songs of his that still do anything for me I just don't see it.
Is he a brilliant artist? absolutely.
is he a crowd pleaser? ^
but the reason why the bowie comparison doesn't work is because Bowie wasn't trying to be anyone but characters he created.
Kanye wants to be Bowie, he strides for it.it's a goal of his to make you think he is the "Bowie of modern pop music" .
it makes him come off as a disingenuous poser.
do you understand the feeling you get when you want to create? Do you have that regularly?
its a drive, feeling like you're almost tapping in to something.
What you're saying is like saying that it is self-centered if you want to be listened to by people, while this is only a normal, very basic necessity for communication.
some people don't understand that those of us who are creative and do make art for art's sake aren't driven by greed and societal expectations, while they just sit and do their jobs because hey, it gives them the security they need to feel like a functioning adult. Knowing that it doesn't have to be that way scares them. Cognitive dissonance and so forth
It's like if someone else painted Picasso's paintings and Picasso took the credit. Is he really an artist at that point?
What does Kanye even do? Recite someone else lyrics on someone else's music and go "HEHHH!" every couple lines?
I don't think I'd take it that far. But I do agree that he's nowhere near as talented as Bowie and this whole discussion is ridiculous. HOWEVER, from a cultural standpoint, he does follow a similar path to bowie, both being noted by a sizeable group of people for their forward thinking fashion sense, and both utilizing their intuition to not invent but follow cultural trends and establish a tableau of their interpretation of what is relevant, thereby unifying people to follow that sound. Idk, I don't want to write an entire essay, though it might actually be kinda fun. Still, people miss the point. Bowie was so much more because 1. he wasn't as crass in most of his career 2. his talent was immense compared to most people even to this day, and he was arguably one of the greatest performers who ever lived. Kanye's shows are cool, and sometimes definitely groundbreaking, but he himself is kind of boring to watch compared to the rest of the spectacle
I realized that as I posted it, and I guess I didn't mean to target that guy as some sort of dumb cog in the big mean machine haha. I just get frustrated when people try and talk about art and say that nobody does stuff without a monetary incentive or whatever. It's an argument I've had with my brother for way too long
Yeah I was literally having this same conversation with someone the other day.
Like obviously it's not an exact comparison, Kanye's carreer is barely 2 decades old and Bowie's was nearly 50, but Kanye is continuously reinventing himself and his sound in the same way Bowie did. If anyone is the David Bowie of hip hop it's Kanye West.
says you, but there were always people flabbergasted by bowie's taste as well. I happen to agree with you, but still, clearly there are a shit ton of people in this thread and around who eat his shit up like he's the messiah. I was just drawing that parallel
It means if anyone is as influential to fashion in the current year as Bowie was in the 70s-80s then that man is G-Dragon. He is unarguably the biggest fashion icon since Bowie himself.
Both highly influential androgynous popstars with impeccable fashion sense and god tier facial aesthetics who influenced the global fashion scene and the fashion surrounding their respective microgenres.
From what I understand if your friend is in the studio and he's like "hey why don't you switch the beat up a second later" and you do it he gets credit.
Also a ton of those were horn and string section musicians so that doesn't really count.
Also you're a thundering cockfuck etc. etc.
