From a pop standpoint, What do you mean, Love Yourself, Trust, Sorry etc are all god tier pop songs. I used to be on the "HURRR DURR BABY LOL XD" but now I'm unironically, whole heartedly enjoying his stuff. Even that acoustic album he put out in 2012 is aight. What is he doing right /mu/?
It's the same cookiecutter shit he's always made and he's got an absolute shit personality to go with it. Nothing new. Nothing original. If you think the crap he makes is anything more than a top-40 chart hit you should consider the valid option of suicide.
I can't believe he managed to get rid of the extremely shitty reputation his older music earned him. It seemed like every dude on the planet hated that guy and now everyone thinks he's okay
Read my post again. It doesn't say everything in the top 40 is bad. It only says it's nothing more than an unoriginal song that only gets it's merit from being in the top 40. It's nothing more than that.
Your trolling is bad and you should find something more productive to do with your time.
>you wanna know something I like Justin bieber please give me attention for this red hot opinion
We've been having this thread every single day since his music got 'better' (it's still as bad as it always was but because it has a Weeknd aesthetic you love it)
Bieber doesn't compose the songs and I imagine has limited input in the lyrics. So your question really is "wow this team of writers hired to specifically appeal to a certain demographic in 2016 appeals to me way more than the people who wrote music for teenage girls 5 years ago"
>From a pop standpoint, What do you mean, Love Yourself, Trust, Sorry etc are all god tier pop songs.
No they fucking aren't. When I saw all these people jumping on the "Bieber is actually good you guys!!!" bandwagon I expected them to at least be somewhat catchy and danceable if musically uninteresting, like Uptown Funk or Can't Feel My Face, but they're literally just shitty pop ballads. What is there to like?
Is there any chance of Bieber pulling a Scott Walker? Let's face it, early on in their career they were both boy-next-door hearththrobs who attracted screaming crowds of girls. Will Bieber ever start writing his own songs, produce more and more abstract material, and experience a decrease in his fanbase as his music increases in quality?
I feel like he has some input into the lyrics.
It's quite clear that he's become pretty fucking religious recently, and a lot of the songs on Purpose are faith oriented.
I mean I'm sure a lot of the shit was written for him, but some of the tracks are pretty personal and about his love life (his chronic oneitis for Selena Gomez) and the religious stuff.
>Yeah man I mean it's still pop but it's really good for Justin Bieber and you know the production is really good even though it's just generic EDM, you're a rockist if you don't like it, just turn your brain off bro the lyrics are actually really deep he's like a new person
This album is the newest catalyst for people to justify their poptimism and shit taste. It's generic, soulless, mass-produced for background listening and teenage girl trendhoppers. It's not like you can't listen to it, but don't try to justify it as some kind of misunderstood genius.
You should be ashamed of yourselves, at least have the dignity to call it a guilty pleasure
>there is objectively nothing wrong with pop music
>or justin bieber
Wrong. He's a talented musician who makes artistically bankrupt music. If you want to listen to fun, artistically bankrupt music, then go back to reddit.
They may only sound personal but doesn't mean that they actually are. Like for example with Selena and the song Same Old Love. In the interviews she says how it's about her relationship with her father, but really that's just her appropriating it for herself. The majority of everything done for that song was by Charli XCX. You can see the credits/personnel for the song; the only thing Selena contributed to was the vocals and nothing else.
>still nowhere near sorry about his drunk driving incident that ppl get around decade of jail time for normally
daily reminder that this is how he treats his adoring fans
What's really dark is I don't think OP is baiting or shilling. This is his genuine opinion.
You have to realize how dark that is. He isn't just some oddity. The people that you communicate with and browse this board, secretly have these tastes. It's dark that you're here all day trying to have an intelligent discussion with people who don't care about the art.
I'm very good at putting by bias aside when listening to a song. I listened to What Do You Mean, beginning to end, before making this post. It is more music made for the lowest common denominator population that treats music as a thing to be listened to passively while you're speaking to others or at the gym.
I'm not some aspie who is going to protest against his music. It's 100% fine if you aren't into music and just want some noise to keep your mind busy while you do other tasks.
It only becomes obnoxious when you come to a MUSIC board and try to discuss your opinion as if it has merit. Enjoy the Bieber, nothing wrong with it. You should probably stop trying to discuss music though as if you're into the art of it.
it should be totally irrelevant whether or not he's a good person. I don't give a shit if he's a douche, lots of great musicians and artists were terrible.
criticize him on the basis that literally nothing he does is stylistically interesting or substantial.
>mfw reading this post
You're not wrong, you're just a pretentious faggot
His music has improved dramatically. I think if he sheds a bit of his pop appeal by working with more "underground" producers, writers and adopts a bit of a darker image he can really produce some good shit. Im optimistic.
I hate it when people make this statement completely ignorant of the fact that he has writers and PR people working 25/8.
It's a cop out to completely call this music 'his'.
He's just a mouthpiece for new-age pop sludge.
One day you'll grow up and realize that it's okay to like pop music.
Not everything needs to be complex or experimental to be good.
It's possible to enjoy both Animal Collective and Bieber.
That's just one approach.
At a basic level though music is for entertainment.
It's possible to enjoy both Abbas Kiarostami as well as Michael Bay.
Just because something is simple or popular doesn't make it bad.
why does he look like he's weirded out in every publicity photo
Why? Because you said so?
I think you have a problem with hating things just because they're popular.
Stop being pretentious about music.
The Beatles used to be simple boy band pop as well (I'm not a huge fan of most of the Beatles work, I'm just trying to bring up an example).
I don't hate Bieber, he's not good
It's like saying McDonald's sells quality food, it's not bad because its popular, its bad because its low quality
yes but anon said they liked baby. There is nothing redeemable about baby and it is, quite frankly, shit. except that it's catchy, but that doesn't make a song good.
Yes the Beatles' earlier stuff was boy-band-like but it was decent music. Baby is just. so. shit.
But why is Baby shit?
I think that you're probably just a kid who doesn't quite understand how reappraisal works. You don't need to try so hard to like music. Just listen to music and like what you like.
I bet you'll call Meghan Trainor's new album trash as well despite the fact that its the most refreshing mainstream pop album in quite some time due to its heavy Doo-Wop influence.
I got tricked into thinking he'd changed (even slightly), and listened to Sorry, and I can safely say that apart from that Wiz Khalifa Paul Walker tribute song it was the worst I'd heard in 2015.
Holy fuck you're an advanced idiot.
Sincerely, kill yourself.
I can honestly say that the re-hashed bubblegum shite-pop you consider "refreshing" is totally disposable and can be achieved by most female pop artists, if they have the right PR, and angle. For instance Meghan Trainor can hit the fat acceptance group. You can't honestly name one innovation or objective strength of the album.
Have you even heard the album?
Name me another mainstream female artist who is making doo-wop revival music.
That is an objective strength and arguably an innovation if it leads to more artists infusing that type of sound.
Tell me why we need doo-wop revival music you wasteman? What will it achieve? It's a re-hash, and I could understand if there was a fucking hint of authenticity behind it, but doo-wop was a fucking cop-out genre (that provided like 10 good singles in it's entirety) for those who couldn't write songs anyway. It's not an innovation.
Because maybe more can be done with the genre then what was originally done with it?
It isn't a re-hash. The album blends mainstream pop, doo-wop, and hip-hop in an interesting way which sets it apart from other mainstream pop artists.
Really the only fault on the album is the terrible song Bang Dem Sticks and the lyrics in general being pretty bad. Production wise though it's really fucking good.
You don't have a clue what you're talking about and probably aren't even a musician yourself.
You can say that Mcdonalds is good food because it taste good but by every way we measure the quality of food(ingredients, affects on health) it sucks.
Biebers music by all the way we can measure musics quality( originality, creativity, musicianship) is subpar. Is it Objectively bad? No music is subjective. Its like saying my painting of fruit i made in 5th grade is better than the Mona Lisa.
I can't into shit like him. Too much substrate about his pop persona. It bleeds all over his music, and makes it about something that it shouldn't be. It takes a certain amount of plain ignorance or just naive desire to be part of a larger stream to actually enjoy his music
b-but anon, poptimism means liking pop music for the sake of open mindedness. If you think that a certain pop album is good because of the music itself without caring about the stigmas attached to liking pop music you aren't a poptimist.
Wow thanks for sharing your shit taste with us
