Shitty rapping with shitty lyrics over poverty techno beats and people say it's a classic or some shit.
And if you disagree you'll get flooded with people telling you that "you don't understand" or that "you had to be there to appreciate it". If it was truly great, surely anyone could appreciate its greatness?
i mean even if you don't like the way the album sounds which is perfectly fair enough, the fact that it was almost entirely created by a 17 year old and basically spawned an entire new sub-genre of music all by itself is pretty impressive
>It's neither over or underrated. It's just rated
It's so overrated.
The instrumentals sound like they were made on a Game Boy Color, which they probably were.
And, shit, people always complain about not being able to understand rappers like Future and Young Thug, but holy shit I have no idea what this man is saying, and when I do, I have no idea what this man is talking about. From the weird, overly abrasive voice to the fucking retarded slang terms. Oh, is it "Live O" Mr Rascal? That's great. Do you think I'm "Shoom!" and "Boom Ting!"? That's great man I hope that's a good thing.
Nah Kid A is a nice attempt at modern krautrock. OK Computer on the other hand reminds me of Skyrim for all you /v/ shitters in here: has a bunch of content, but none of the content is all that great and people rate it highly just for the sake of the fact that there's a lot not necessarily the quality of the "a lot".
Kind of Blue isn't as overrated as the others. It's far too often recommended as an accessible first album (for jazz or Miles), that's for sure. It doesn't work very well without context.
>I don't understand the slang that comes from another part of the world
>that automatically means it's bad
Kill yourself. Not your fault you can't handle bars. Not to mention it's nothing like fucking chiptune so idk why you even brought a Game Boy Color up.
Stop making shit up like "you had to be there". You're obviously not from the part of the world where the music was made from so the ideas and concepts are totally lost on you.
It's good but holy shit do people overrate the fuck out of it
I'm 90% sure every kid who walks around wearing a Dark Side of the Moon shirt has never listened to the album
I used to own a DSOTM shirt when I was younger. I'd wear it despite only ever having heard "Money" and "Breathe". Now I've actually heard the entire album, 4-5 times over, but I haven't listened to anything else Pink Floyd.
I meant the song Kid A. I act retarded occasionally anon, forgive me. I got to National Anthem and stopped, I can't fucking stand this album. There's a fine line between electronic and rock for me.
Maybe it'll grow on me like OKC, but for now, I'm good.
Nobody's recommended me any IDM outside of Aphex. I still don't like Kid A, it took me 10 listens of Airbag over the course of a few months to think that OK Computer wasn't absolute shit.
Autechre - Tri Repetae (similar style as SAW85-92)
Autechre - Confield (similar style to RDJ/Drukqs)
Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi
Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett
Squarepusher - Hard Normal Daddy
next time don't just wait for others to spoonfeed you
Holy shits, this is the most overrated album from the one i like, from the one i dislike I should say animals, it is pretty bad, it sounds like if the PF just wanted to yell all around "WATCH ME I CAN BE TECHNICAL", but became too much technical and became a big giant mutual handjob
Definitely Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I'm a Beatles fan but seriously that album is for the most part shallow with nothing of substance besides A Day in the Life. It's always in talks of best album of all time and it's not even one of the Beatles best. Yeah, yeah it was revolutionary in its recording blah blah blah. I'm just not a fan
Honourable Mentions: Never Mind The Bollocks, Abbey Road, The Doors
Great album, but yes overrated...
Grew up with Radiohead, so I can't hate any of their album as they hold huge emotional value for me. No matter how meme or "overrated" they get.
Fuck no. It's a beautiful classic, showing how noise can be used in a symphonious way.
Not as good as Revolver, not as accomplished as Abbey Road, not as adventurous as the White Album, not as good songwriting as Magical Mystery Tour. Hell, even Let it Be had better songs on it.
It's basically the worst album of the second half of the band's existence, and the only album of theirs that I wouldn't recommend to friends.
That it's not a very technically accomplished album is missing the point entirely.
It's basically the sound of being 19 and rich in a major city and partying all the time. The exuberance is what makes it.
Sgt. Peppers is overrated though. I also mentioned that it's recording was revolutionary which is why it was so influential. But dude, rolling stone called sgt. Peppers the best album of all time. That's a fucking joke
Influential is a strong word, and half of the albums you've listed are far from it.
it's a damn good album though
ive never heard anyone call it a classic at least not on here though so idk if it's overrated it seems possible though, because this album is really good but dizzee has some garbage out there
Underrated/Influential Albums (in my opinion):
>The Monks - Black Monk Time
>Public Image Ltd. - Second Edition
>Screamin' Jay Hawkins - At Home with Screamin' Jay Hawkins
>Sun City Girls - Horse Cock Phepner
>Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth
>Bauhaus - In The Flat Field
>Terry Riley - A Rainbow in Curved Air and In C
>Bo Diddley - s/t
Well this isn't overrated on /mu/ but i have stumbled across many people that think this shit is actually dope
And I'm not helping. Sorry bro but I've been outta the game to long to recommend anything myself. Everyone will just call me out for being a P4k drone or Ishkurs Guide idiot. Or they'll just do that no matter what I post because you know, it's /mu/.
Of course if the music an artist makes as several instruments and effects, and they all fit togheter and contribute to the final product, its a significant advantage when this music is rated, my point is, the fact that some music is simplistic or not very complicated, doesnt mean the music is itself bad, anon said that the fact that ITAOTS had only 4 chords was a bad selling point, while i disagree as that really doesnt matter as long as the music itself is good, see minimal techno, for example
I already know about Venetian Snares and BoC. Not about Squarepusher and Autechre though. Thanks anon. Here's my 3x3 if you can rec anything else.
feel like there's really no point as to why LET is saddled onto this 'FIRST/MOST INFLUENTIAL JAZZ RAP RECORD OF ALL TIME' praise other than the fact that it has upright bass & authentic percussion. it's really neither lyrically or instrumentally jazzy considering all tracks are in 4, mostly not swung without any experimental sax-solo-esque flows(like a busdriver type thing). smooth upright bass lines and drum grooves w lots of ride cymbal doesn't make it jazz. also gotta admit th lyrics are cheesy as fukk
He's right you know. Great albums don't exist because all music is garbage.
this Kanye west album is called a masterpiece when infact is just shite.
am a very passionate kanye fan, but this album just isnt good. its super experimental and idk what he was thinking..... its good if you sit down and listen to the whole album but thats truly it.
>808s is by far the lamest kanye album tho..
i mean it was cool back then but migos beem using the same recycled flow and lyrics for the past year
>flippin and rippin while skippin these chickens in the kitchen and flickin my wrist and dickin these bitches...
depends who you ask with this one - i think its overrated critically but everyone of my friends apart from me thinks its shite, so from that respect its underrated - I like yeezus but it's not a masterpiece, that much is obvious.
