/metal/ general: bad album covers edition
old thread: >>61774762
Cripple Bastards, familia
>implying any of that is anywhere near black and grind
lol just lol
anyone who is still on 4chan at this point has clearly stopped caring a long time ago
i always answer people if i think i can answer
no clue why but grind fans either tend to be really well humored, cool people or obnoxious elitists
just a guess, your favorite grind band is Insect Warfare or Assuck?
>anyone who is still on 4chan at this point has clearly stopped caring a long time ago
what are you talking about?
why are you speaking in bullshit?
>not for children
literally babby's first metal
>just a guess, your favorite grind band is Insect Warfare or Assuck?
my guess would be discordance axis. they're a big favorite of faggots who don't actually like metal but try and have opinions about metal.
fucking JEJ this is great
i love babby metal senpai
pic related was just as, if not more brutal than the OSDM at the time
damn good too
>I can't appreciate that every metal genre has something to offer
lost horizon sucks dick. this is how i know power metal fans don't know what the fuck they're talking about. they hype the most garbage shit and let actually good bands remain in obscurity.
SHITPOSTERS LEAVE THE HALL
You'll be begging for the enchanted dragon cock when I'm done with you, faggot.
I was hoping to come back to 50 posts of awful album covers, not this shit.
Prophecy Fest added Germ and Vemod.
I think I actually have to go there now.
Please recommend anything that sound like
Decapitated - Spheres of Madness
Sleep Terror - Probing Tranquility
Why does Rob Zombie cast his wife in every one of his movies?
Also Rob Zombie seems like a bro
I have a copy of RIse of the Northstar's Welcame but it's a different edition or something
It's full of anime samples, mainly dragonball z and yu yu hakisho and has 2 songs from their EP
a better question would be what is there not to hate, because i legitimately can't see any
>pretentiousness in music
disgusting view, it pretty much encourages lack of experimentation so it won't be ''pretentious''
not to mention that music (or any other form of art for that matter) can't ''be'' pretentious, only the people who make and listen to it, and in that way then yeah. DT is pretty up there in the pretentiousness scale
Listening to a Skeletal Domain now, CC are really good.
Any other death metal with exceptionally brutal drumming?
Their only recorded album ain't great but look up incontinence's set opening for nile in albany in a few days on grizloch's youtube channel. Fucking awesome. They have a new one coming this summer.
you should check the big BDM bands, Suffocation, Cryptopsy (first 2 albums are fantastic everything else ranges from hit or miss to laughably awful), Nile, the already mention CC and DF, Aborted which also has some deathgrind and goregrind influence, and then just dig in the genre
>all these recommendations
Thanks m80, I'll go through them one by one this weekend. Got a dissertation to marathon and need stuff like this to keep me awake through it all. Thanks again.
Only two weeks into 2016, what's your AOTYSF? Gotta be this for me.
also check some slam, a sub genre of BDM
Extermination Dismemberment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc-E9KODwpM
7 H. Target https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRgP1KxHcjo
Abominable Putridity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JYFgoaEeaQ
No One Gets Out Alive (BANJO SLAM) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVjyMeFpKdI
hope you luck m808
that looks cool as fuck, gotta check it out
it's certainly less gruesome but i can't stand the production, plus the album itself is sloppy as fuck, which is forgiven considering how young the band was
that's what i guesses from the cover alone, Nespithe's cover always seemed like a dystopic totalitarian alien society to me, i got the same vibe from that
thanks for the rec, senpai, i'll need to check it out
Why can't more trips be like you? Really appreciate the great recommendations!
alright guys, sharing something with you
Portugal isn't really the best country when it comes to metal (read:there's nothing here except Moonspell and shit tier bandcamp bands) and the area where i live, in particular, has only had a single metal band ever, a prog thrash band called Strikeback, who released a 3 song demo and immediately proceeded to disappear forever
it's p good
Help me find a black metal with this riff:
the riff is the same, but Sepultura uses it for like 10 seconds and then moves on, while the black metal kind of just drones on it
I can't remember it and it's driving me crazy
huh doesn't seem like anybody's carrying this. No big deal I'll just go through bandcamp but still surprsing.
released January 15, 2016
also have some Portuguese slam
reminds me a lot of AP but not as good, kinda generic really, but it's still nice
i could sense it was brazilian through the singer's accent alone
pretty decent for what it is
the riff starts at 32 seconds in my video, not quite what you linked
it's also heavier sounding, almost the same as the Sepultura riff (like I wouldn't be surprised if it's some Hate Forest song or something)
> not quite what you linked
mate are you fucking serious i was memeing
but now that you mention it, i also know that riff, and i also have no clue from where it came from
seriously what the hell
This album is actually a tribute because the original band never recorded anything and the original vocalist died of cancer.
The vocalist's brother is the person who turned into metal, great guy.
I have this bootleg copy of Welcame with several anime samples and some minor editing overall.
It's vastly superior to the normal version of the album imo.
>when you find out there's a new Worship coming out this year
Holy shit, this could be an amazing year for funeral doom. We already had Lycus which was great, who knows what else is gonna come out. Last year we had bell witch and tyranny. Fucking hyped for best genre to get good shit after having nothing for a few years.
Hometown bands thread? Hometown bands thread:
Where will you be when the Death Metal album of the decade is released?
>just leaked on Youtube
Why does this band and Mastodon trigger metalfags so much?
I remember /mu/ recommended some black metal album, it must have been 2008
it was the worst production I've ever heard, like worse than Nattens Madrigal
Satanic Warmaster sounded clearer than this shit
but the melodies were nice, now I can't remember what that album was it had a black and white cover (like every BM album)
I doubt anyone will find what I'm talking about, but I'm sure there's a hundred albums that fit this description
AOTY will be here in less than 2 weeks
is Burzum really liked by non metal fans?
without resorting to pic related pls
The Sword are remodelled shit through and through while Mastodon are alright for the most part but have made some shit and carry this (>>61786472) stigma, so sometimes Mastodon aren't actually the ones being faggots but instead the people one here telling you Blood Mountain was their last good album etc.
Am I the only one that just can't get immersed in atmospheric metal? I can get immersed in literally every genre of metal, like when I listen to death metal I feel like a monster, even when I listen to glam I feel like an alpha chad rocker in the 80s, with atmospheric metal I don't feel anything, it's bad enough that the music is so poorly composed too
Help me build this proto-core chart.
When bands realeased albums with undeveloped sound.
Am I the only one that just can't get immersed in [genre]? I can get immersed in literally every genre of metal, like when I listen to death metal I feel like a monster, even when I listen to glam I feel like an alpha chad rocker in the 80s, with [genre] I don't feel anything, it's bad enough that the music is so poorly composed too
this is probably memeing but since we have massive amounts of shitposting about the retarded riff vs atmo debate, i'd say that no, you're not the only one
It's the complete opposite for me.
don't think too much about it, it's probably just a personal preference as with any artform.
also saying all atmospheric stuff is poorly composed is rather unfair, the compositions are usually just a lot more simple.
These are my hometown 'metal' acts
Never seen or actually sat down and listened to their stuff cause its not my interest. Technically, they sound fine I guess. But knowing the people too, they became pretentious arseholes after they got signed. Thought automagically they were bigshot important. I told them to fuck off after they asked for criticism and gave me shit for not being 'opened minded' when I told them they were fairly mediocre.
My town really, really wants to be a hub for musical acts. But its not, and won't be. Its shit.
Depends on the power, I myself only listen to j-power because the musicianship and songwriting of that scene is unrivalled, it's really catchy and very uplifting and has just incredible, beautiful guitar solos
do demos count when the band hasn't released an album?
Why do some fully grown men like this band?
>Has to be on this chart
on a related note, why does /metal/ obsess over jap metal frequently? I mean, I like sabbat, coffins and abigail but half of the time it looks like you guys just worship something just because it's japanese.
Weebland's metal scene is up there with germany, norway, sweden, america, greece and canada lad. Osaka's the metal capital of East Asia.
It's not unbelievable that people overrate weeb/jap metal on 4chan since this is a weebshit website.
>watching /metal/ turn into shit where power metal and hardcore aren't always jokes any longer
You do realize power metal was unironically discussed on /mu/ all the way back in 2006, right? /metal/'s always had a soft spot for power metal, it's only become more vocal the past two years alone.
Sabbat and abigail both have shit riffs and are overrated solely because they're japanese if you want some top tier black thrash listen to skeletonwitch or goatwhore or abbath or aura noir
The Dwelling is the pinnacle of black thrash, though. that's where nearly all of sabbat's praise comes from. abigail's first album is a bombardment of /riff/.
They're literally just melodic deaththrash.
They're an amalgamation of a bunch of extreme metal genres.
Legitimately great, though I preferred his work in Immortal much more
I have to give it to Aura Noir, it's hard to be boring in black thrash but they somehow find a way.
do you even know what black thrash is
Again, skeletonwitch fits more into death thrash than they do black thrash. After the first 20 seconds of Beneath Dead Leaves it drops any semblance of black metal and goes full death thrash.
Pic related is the only thing I've listened to so far and it's bretty gud.
How does it sound anything like black metal? The riffing is hardly black metal and shares a lot of similarities with melodeath noodling. Screeched vocals doesn't make something black metal/black thrash. It shares more in common with death thrash than it does black thrash.
This is black thrash.
>a 20 second black metal bit makes a 30 minute album black thrash
you might as well say sigh made a jazz album because of that one song with 30 seconds of saxophones.
there are 20 second black segments in almost every song
Indeed, I wasn't even born when this album came out but I'm curious about the reaction of people at the time when this awful cover was released. Maybe it looked quite good back in '83
It doesn't have to have blast beats to be black thrash, but it does at least have to sound blackened to be black thrash.
You're allowed to be wrong, you're just not allowed to enforce being wrong as right.
Skeletonwitch has always been death thrash and they've always borrowed heavily from melodeath chord progressions.
Screeching and shrieking in metal's been a thing before black metal was and there's plenty of death metal bands with shrieked vocals. And again, vocals doesn't make a genre.
according to you Behemoth is not blackened either because they sound a lot less black metal than Skeletonwitch, especially Demigod
100% death metal vocals, technical drumming and death metal production
Behemoth's early work is black metal. Their middle stuff is largely death metal. The Satanist is straight up blackened death metal, though.
Not as autistic as pretending something is something it's not. You might as well say black sabbath is brutal goregrind.
It doesn't have to have blast beats to be black thrash, but it does at least have to sound blackened to be black thrash
You're allowed to be wrong, you're just not allowed to enforce being wrong as right
Voivod has always been death thrash and they've always burrowed heavily from melodeath chord progressions
Whats some good drone metal?
I hate black metal and most black thrash, but I really like Skeleton Sandwich. They're black thrash but without the black, they're my favorite black thrash band.
what does /metal/ think of this black thrash band
Clearly not this
Pic related and Earth 2.
Jokes aside, sabbat has literally nothing to do with black metal, those 20 second skeletonwitch fragments are more black than their entire discography, where is the black?
That's because sabbat's mostly a continuation of first wave black metal than straight up modern black thrash.
no, sabbat just follows the 80s formula of black thrash (FWBM), which was a lot more rooted in thrash metal than modern black thrash which is heavily rooted in both. at the time Sabbat started releasing albums they were completely unaware the second wave of BM even existed.
>citing fucking metal-archives reviews
Your entire argument is garbage.
>Trenchrot - Necronomic Warfare
>Sigh - Graveward
>Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction
>Ataraxy - Rotten Shit
>Cryptopsy - Blasphemy Made Flesh
>Incantation - Entrantment of Evil
>Leprous - Bilateral
>Graveyard - The Sea Grave
which 3 would you keep ?
recommend some depressing metal to somebody who usually doesn't listen to metal.
pic somewhat related
The vast majority of Skeletonwitch's fanbase are teenagers who only listen to "those" popular label bands. I'm not dissing skeletonwitch musically, namely label-core melodeath and shit. If the majority of Dark Tranquility's fanbase agreed that Dark Tranquility was a black metal band, does that make them objectively black metal?
Skeletonwitch is great death thrash, don't get me wrong, but most of their fanbase are the kind of teenagers who only listen to surface-thrash and surface-melodeath and have no place to pretend they know black thrash.
Skeletonwitch is unironically one of my favorite modern thrash metal bands but as somebody who knows thrash subgenres, the new Skeletonwitch is largely death thrash with minor chunks of black thrash-lite thrown in randomly. It's still a great album but it's hardly black thrash. Skeletonwitch has also borrowed heavily from melodeath progressions.
Now I remember why I never talk about music to anyone.
Wasn't this thread about bad cover art?
Good album, wonderfully shitty cover art
>Is there any emotional [...] metalcore?
