Kid A: Gold
Spiderland: badly produced shit
Loveless: noise
Burial: Completely uninteresting
Remain In Light: Masta Peace
In The Court Of The Crimson King: Stellar

MBDTF: inconsistant, stellar instrumentals, dogshit lyrics
Exmilitary: good

You realise Kid A was just Radiohead ripping off a load of 90s idm artists?
>>61773064
I guess I'm not that familiar with 90's IDM to say. By itself I enjoy it.
>>61773064
Just finished relistening Kid A after 2 years and I still think it's good but nothing so fucking gold ore anything.

This
>>61773096
Yeah I still enjoy it, it's just hailed as being the most innovative and original album of the century by people who haven't listened to very much music, when in fact it's incredibly derivative and nowhere near being on par with it's influences. I think In Rainbows and Ok Computer are much better albums than Kid A anyway.
if you dont think STGSTV is the best of all of them you are a massive plen
>>61773198

ITCOTCK
Loveless
Spiderland
ITAOTS/MBDTF
LYSF/RIL
Kid A/Exmilitary
American football
Anco/Burial
I don't think ANY of these albums are bad (I also don't love all of them). Most of them are groundbreaking, or essential to their respective genres.
Giving low scores to essential albums is a meme
>People genuninely think LYSF is anything less than a 7/10
If you like F#A#INFINITY more, I understand. But how do people like MBDTF or Kid A more than LYSF or Spiderland?

I don't promise those ratings are 100% accurate since i haven't heard some of those albums in ages... for example Remain In Light, i heard really long ago, and i think that if i would try it again it might grow in me.
but i tried, for you guys ~
>>61773419
LYSF can be really boring if you don't like crescendos
Spiderland can be overwhelmingly depressing if youre not a sad person
also MBDTF and Kid A are well crafted albums, anon
>>61773433

>>61773591

Ratings are arbitrary. It's pointless to try to shoehorn every piece of art into a 0 to 10 scale.
>>61773475
>>61773591
What do you consider essential albums?
something like this
>>61773541
>these are pretty essential if you like music
>>61773591
there's a reason these albums are widely discussed considered even outside of /mu/ to be essential in their influence. drop your trip, you are a fool
>>61773628
they could be rating it based off objective importance, relevance, impact, etc
>>61773634

>>61773596

>>61773514
I don't think any music is essential, but Talking Heads and Slint were high influential in their respective genres.
>>61773658
then whats the point in rating them? if you're going to try and be objective then just use metacritic or something
>>61773659
yea essential to their genres, fine, i can respect that, but i've talked to many people here that think they're essential listens period, and it's triggering.

did /mu/ finally get over its edgy "emo is gay" phase?
/mu/core is pretty good
>>61774035
Discogs is great if you like really rare or hard to find stuff
i work at record store, so i see plenty of your standard fare come through regularly, but finding hyper rare 1969 psych is a bit harder
the "lel mu-core is bad" meme is awful
>>61774049

i like af because it's just really tight songwriting with neat guitar pieces. most other twinkly emo isn't my thing.
>>61774104
I can't even find a store that stocks Heavenly LPs man, i really need to get on that
This whole thread shows how bad the whole bard got, goodbye neo/mu/, may you die in your sleep choked by your own memes and underage shitposting.
>>61774123
if that were your real reason for using a secure tip then keeping a textfile of bands to check out later would be a much more efficient means of doing it
>>61774195
Most people who disparage the genre are usually immature and no understanding of the genre so when they hear "emo" they think of pop punk shit like fall out boy and MCR,
>>61774226
yea i did that at one point but got lazy with it so i just use rym now
>>61773198

>>61774200

>>61774254
i think anyone who's spent a week on /mu/ would be past that. a lot of 90s emo is trashy and dismissable as well though, especially the skramz shit. but there are a decent amount of outstanding bands.

part of why i don't like a lot of IDM (that i've listened to, at least), is because it sounds so "robotic", i guess. i have this problem with krautrock too. it doesn't feel as human to me, and thom whining does and i like it.
